Christmas Stocking Process
The Supply Chain and Planning Team has prepared a brief behind-the-scenes outlook on preparations for the 2025 Christmas period, our busiest time of the year.
Believe it or not, our Christmas planning starts in January — just as we’re packing away the tinsel! We take a moment to look back at what went well (and what didn’t) while it’s still fresh in everyone’s minds. Feedback from the DC, Buying, Planning, and Store teams helps us fine-tune our approach for the year ahead.
The 2024 season ran smoothly overall, with Christmas trees looking better than ever in stores. This year, we’re turning our attention to smaller pallet items — think baubles and lights — and trialling new ways to make picking and delivery even smoother.
By late summer, things really ramp up. We plan space in the DC week by week — WIGIG by WIGIG — making sure there’s room for every festive favourite across all 827 seasonal locations. It’s a real team effort between Supply Chain, Planning, and Logistics to keep everything moving and avoid any storage pile-ups.
As the season kicks in, truck numbers soar from around 70 a week to over 100 — a sure sign Christmas is coming! To keep things on track, we use sales data from previous years to predict the peaks, making sure stores get stock just when they need it.
Once the first deliveries roll out, we keep a close eye on performance, checking stock levels several times a week so every store stays well-stocked right through the season. The goal? Simple — the right stock, in the right place, selling through at just the right pace.
It takes great planning, teamwork, and communication to make Christmas happen — but it’s the energy and enthusiasm from everyone across the business that truly brings the season to life. From the DC to our incredible store teams, it’s a huge team effort… and one that makes Christmas our favourite time of the year!
