HOME Hero At the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta, we believe that everyone deserves the comfort, dignity, and stability of a furnished home. The Furniture Bank was founded in 1988 to meet a critical gap in homeless services. Families were moving out of shelters into empty apartments. Not only was this unsafe and unhealthy, but it also led to poor outcomes. Through its Making A House A Home program, the Furniture Bank creates stability for families and individuals in need by distributing donated furniture to turn their empty houses into warm homes. Whether a client is transitioning out of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or recovering from a crisis, the Furniture Bank is here to give them a fresh start. Each household we serve receives a variety of essential furniture—including a bed for every family member—so they can rebuild their lives with comfort and dignity. Since its start in 1988, the Furniture Bank has grown to serve over 1,700 families each year and works toward a vision where every family has the furniture they need.
RISING FROM THE ASHES
In June 2025, a fire destroyed the Furniture Bank’s warehouse and entire inventory. Yet thanks to an incredible outpouring of community support, the organization never stopped serving families.
