CONNELLY SCHOOL OF THE HOLY CHILD
THE WILLOW
HC SPIRIT ENDURES DURING COVID By Nadia Green, '22 This year our traditional Blue/Gold Games had a new spin amid the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the country. Despite the new normal, Holy Child kept up the competition through at-home games that created a sense of connection and spirit. Blue captain Kelsey Rafferty, when asked about her thoughts on the new Blue Gold games said âThe virtual version was a great way to still get the whole student body involved and hyped up for Blue/Gold even though we were not able to participate in the traditional flag football game.â Her favorite part was the cornhole tournament because âthe senior class got to participate with [their] parentsâŚwhile still having an in-person friendly competition. Being in the Blue/Gold gear made it feel normal for a night." Kelseyâs co-captain Kiki Nyoh claims her favorite part was âdoing the challenges with her family and the cornhole tournament.â It was difficult not being able to participate in the flag football game, but both agree that the virtual games continue the traditions so Blue can be victorious in the spring when the rivalry continues. Similar ideas were presented by Gold Team Captain Emily Baker. She shared âThe Blue/Gold virtual games were huge success, and it was a great opportunity for members to earn points for their team.â Emilyâs favorite challenge was drinking the water and not letting it overflow because she enjoyed seeing her family compete. Amari Bryan-Chavis, Gold Team co-captain, claims that the games were, âdifferent, unique and a good way to have everyone participateâ. Both captains expressed their motivation to take down Blue in the spring. Blue/Gold was a success with Gold taking a victory in the Fall. As a student body we all look forward to coming together as a community to enjoy our Holy Child traditions.
