PRO TIP- CUSTOM CABINETS VS PRE-FAB BY JORDON HOLMES
Jordon is the owner and founder of Holmes Cabinet Specialties and has been in the construction field most of his life. He has been specializing in cabinets for the last five years. Jordon: What is the difference in custom cabinets versus prefabricated? This is a question we get a lot! One of the major differences is that custom cabinets can be any size. We measure placement of windows, plumbing, electrical, doors, and anything that could affect your cabinets. We then build your cabinets to properly fit your space. Pre-fabricated cabinets are typically in 3 inch increments. To make these types of cabinets fit in your space, you are given fillers to make up the left over space.
CUSTOM CABINETS ARE BUILT TO FIT PERFECTLY IN YOUR SPACE, WITH HIGH QUALITY CABINET GRADE PLYWOOD. The second difference is quality of the materials used. Our custom cabinets are made of cabinet grade plywood, such as maple, beech, or birch. Custom cabinetry also allows the client to choose what species of wood they prefer for their project. Custom cabinets will also typically have a higher quality hardware. We use under mount, soft close drawer slides and hinges.
Big box stores will have some prefabricated cabinets on display. These cabinets are typically made of particle board with a thin veneer of wood. The hardware used is typically a cheaper variety of side mount slides. Due to particle board construction, these cabinets are very susceptible to water damage. It is important to consider what type of cabinets will work best in your situation, and for your project. Both types have their place and time that they will be the best option for the project. If you have a custom cabinet job in the works and you would like an estimate, give us a call at 409-543-2706.
MENTAL HEALTH MOMENT- ANXIETY BY NEW BEGINNINGS COUNSELING TEAM
New Beginnings Counseling Team is a team of therapists serving our local communities out of their offices in Port Neches, Beaumont & Stafford. They see clients of all ages and use a variety of treatment modalities to help clients reach their goals! We, at HCS, understand the importance of taking care of your mental health and hope to diminish the stigma around seeking therapy. NBCT: This month we wanted to touch on anxiety. It is one of the most common reasons people choose to seek therapy. Anxiety is our mental and physical reaction to a perceived threat. It is often in relation to a future event or situation. Anxiety can activate our "fight or flight" response and protect us from danger, which is helpful. However, too much anxiety can be debilitating. UNHINGED
NBCT: Anxiety can be intensified by our irrational thoughts, making it important for us to identify these irrational thoughts and challenge them. Thoughts such as, "I will fail" or convincing ourselves the worst outcome will come true, often lack evidence. However, these thoughts typically cause our anxiety to increase. Once we work to identify these irrational thoughts and challenge them, we can reduce our anxiety. One technique we encourage our clients to use is to put our thoughts on "trial". Consider what evidence there is to support the thought. What makes us think we will "fail". When we gather our evidence, is it a fact or is it a feeling? Only facts are allowed, as feelings are NOT facts. Once we have our evidence, is our thought accurate?
NBCT: Another technique our clients have found helpful is to challenge thoughts with questions. Examples include, "What would my best friend say?" "How likely is it that my fear will come true?" "Will this matter in a week? a month? a year?"
ASK YOURSELF, IS THIS A FEELING OR A FACT? If you feel like these are some techniques you would like to work through with a therapist, be sure to contact New Beginnings Counseling Team at 409-540-2055. PAGE 2
MURPHIT HEALTH & WELLNESS Christine & Alex Murphy are the brains (and brawn) behind Murphit Health & Wellness. They are busy parents to two precious kiddos and an ER nurse & firefighter by day. Luckily for us, they find time to share their love of health and wellness through accountability groups and personal training! Follow along with the Murphys on Facebook and Instagram.
@murphit1 HCS: Thank you for making time for this! First off, how did you guys get started with Murphit? Christine: I was actually working at Ford Park in the HR department when one of my close friends suggested I start a boot camp for our coworkers! So, I did and then started offering boot camps in both Beaumont and Fannett.
I HAVE ALWAYS FOCUSED ON HOW YOU FEEL. IF YOU FEEL GREAT, YOU LOOK GREAT!
HCS: I love that! What do you see as your vision/ mission behind Murphit? Christine: I love sharing my knowledge and passion for health and wellness. I am always up for learning new things and truly feel there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to health! I believe that everyone's body is made differently and you have to find what works for YOUR body and YOUR lifestyle to feel your best. I do not buy into society's definition of "fit". I've always focused on how you FEEL. If you feel great, you look great!
HCS: Yes! I know you have helped many people FEEL their best! What services do you and Alex offer through Murphit? Christine: We are currently offering virutal training, custom workout plans tailored just for you and your goals, accountability coaching, and nutritional guidance for both men and women.
