In a world where fishing gear often becomes overwhelmingly complex, the simplicity and effectiveness system-driven rods will remind any angler of the core joys of fishing—casting, feeling the bite, and experiencing the fight. To fit within our system, each rod must deliver top casting and angling performance of each of our most popular jigs, plugs and softbaits. The design considerations for each rod from the grip to the blank’s action and to guide placement are obsessively considered with each model.

Our Hogy System Rods are considered “moderate fast” by today’s standards, meaning that the rod has some tip flex and front forward back bone for working lures and hooking fish, but a secondary “moderate action” for a more enjoyable and forgiving uniform bend throughout the blank.

I specifically appreciate how this rod performs with our smaller plugs and epoxy jigs. The balance and responsiveness allow me to cast with precision and work lures effectively at the surface or just below. Whether I’m targeting stripers feeding on the surface or albies busting on bait on a sunny late morning, this rod responds beautifully to the demands of each scenario. The rod’s moderate fast action and medium power blend perfectly, offering the perfect balance of precision casting, control “walking the dog” and the backbone for solid hook sets. I find these rods are best balanced with 3000 to 5000 high quality spinning reels paired with 20lb braid. – Capt. Mike

LIGHT TACKLE INSHORE

MODERATE FAST ACTION FOR 3/4OZ - 3OZ INSHORE CASTING

I’ve always preferred to run my day to day inshore casting outfits a little heavier than most by running a 7’ Medium-Heavy rod with a nicely balanced 5000 sized spinning rod. For the best balance of casting distance and abrasion resistance, I’ll spool these reels up with 20lb braided line and use leader from 20lb - 50lb depending on the species and type of structure I’m fishing. These outfits are light enough to cast small swimbaits, jigs and topwater for albies, but still have enough backbone to target large stripers in a pinch. - Capt. Ross

I always bring at least two Hogy Hybrid Conventional Rods with me, whether I’m heading out for inshore or offshore fishing. At 5’6”, they fit perfectly in my head, out of the way but easy to grab if I decide to switch tactics. These rods are great for both jigging and trolling, making them a reliable choice for whatever fishing conditions I encounter. I have complete confidence in landing a tuna up to 150 lbs on this rod yet I can still enjoy a day deep water fluke fishing with it’s soft parabolic action.
