New Business a. Senator Vira moves to open the gallery i. Motion Seconded ii. Motion Passed b. Welcome Senate Guest– Dean Christy 1. Dean Christy: I do agree that my office is not centrally located. It is hard for folks to know where I am. People don’t really hang out there. I sent Jessica Eads that statement. Hofstra is expensive. Most of you don’t live on this island and your parents don’t live with you on campus. My role is to do that on your behalf. For what you pay to go here, someone should be here to help you navigate when someone is minimizing your voice. It is up to me to amplify your voice. Faculty is not being very responsible about the doctor’s notes so I intervened there. I do have jurisdiction over your well being and if I have valid reasons. I don’t hold your hand. If you are wrong you are wrong. I also have that harsh reality. The other part is giving your families the harsh reality that they don’t know who you are on campus. It is on me to help you navigate between your family and who you are. I navigate anything and everything that happens outside the classroom. I like stirring things up. I treat you like my child because I have seen how your mental health plays on you. Sometimes faculty requires another adult to speak to them. I also deal with the student emergency fund including meal cards etc. You want to get this when you reach towards finals. Meals aren’t cheap, and I know the deals aren’t that great. I also deal
