HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY
MAJOR IN FRENCH
AN 8-SEMESTER STUDY GRID
This is simply an example of what 8 semesters might look like for incoming First-Year students who place in level 003 in the language placement test. If you place in level 001 or 002 of the language, or declare your major later, or are a Transfer Student, your grid will look considerably different. Your choices may vary. Some FREN/FRLT (French in Translation) courses fulfill more than one requirement such as a Literature, Cross Cultural, or Writing Intensive Core Distribution, opening up more space. Up to 6 credits of Core Distribution credits may be taken during Study Abroad. Students are encouraged to study abroad. French majors can take up to but no more than 12 s.h. of FREN/FRLT courses towards their major while studying abroad, and they can take up to but no more than 6 s.h. of FREN/FRLT courses towards their minor while studying abroad. Students are required to meet with a French advisor at least once every semester.
