In conversation with Dr. Julie Byrne Hartman Chair of Catholic Studies and Chair of the Department of Religion What is Christian nationalism? Where are its roots in American history, and how is it connected to racial identity? How is it showing up in 2024 electoral politics? Dr. Robert P. Jones, author, sociologist of religion, and national media voice on this topic, joins our campus community to discuss Christian nationalism, plus other religion-related topics in the 2024 election, such as reproductive rights, anti-LGBTIQ activism, new state laws requiring public schools to post the Ten Commandments or prohibiting teaching about slavery and racism, and anti-immigrant sentiment. In 2020 Dr. Jones wrote White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity, which received a 2021 American Book Award, and he recently published The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future (2023), an instant New York Times bestseller.
