Colors That Move:

How LGBTQ+ Family Acceptance Films From Immigrant Communities Create Radical Empathy featuring

Aashish Kumar Professor of Radio, Television, Film; The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication In this 90-minute workshop, I will use my documentary films on South Asian LGBTQ+ family-acceptance journeys to foster dialogue, build community, and inspire change. The workshop channels the emotional power of storytelling into a commitment to meaningful action—both small and large—that participants can undertake in their own communities. Aashish Kumar is an independent documentary filmmaker. His work centers the experiences of South Asian diaspora as seen through the lens of advocacy, compassion, and activism. He is the Producer/Director of an omnibus documentary series titled Body, Home, World: South Asian LGBTQ+ Journeys featuring eight short films about family-acceptance journeys of queer South Asians here in the US and in India.
