Agenda of the Senate Hofstra University Student Government Association (07/12/2026) Hofstra University https://hofstra.zoom.us/j/94776756951?pwd=d40FfIoaJ3P1ikvsuUUF3GsOxQW5TP.1 Call to order Meeting Called to order at 7:05 pm EST A. Quorum Call a. Quorum set to 28 B. New Business a. Constitutional Convention Presentation i. Presented by Chair Chauhan 1. Chair Chauhan: We should have a constitution convention to have new bylaws for SGA. We think a constitutional convention should happen because the current language is outdated and inconsistent. We require updated procedures and guidelines. We need accessibility and align our document with current practices. Having this convention is supposed to be a unanimous decision and is left to the committee. CR is the legislative branch of SGA. We don’t know why lots of the articles are there and these have not been in practice. There are also things that are not in our constitution that we do. Things are inconsistent. The benefits of a new constitution would be to set clear guidelines for officers, better legislative processes, easier for us. It will be to increase collaboration, and ensure we are doing everything in the right procedural manner and make us prepped for the future. The Vice President will establish a new committee. Committee of detail and committee of style and arrangement. The President, Vice President

and Chief Justice will be non-voting members. Anyone can apply for these positions and can fill out the form. This will be done over the summer. The Cabinet will debate on the draft. The committee will take details into account. Style and formatting will be submitted and reviewed. The final presentation is presented to the club resources committee, cabinet and senate. We will complete this during the summer and the first meeting back we will discuss. We require unanimous vote to do it. It will be presented as a full senatorial action in the 4th senate and judicial panel will review. Please ask me any questions you may have. 2. Senator Pierre: Have you considered that there will be elections for the fall semester as well? a. Chair Chauhan: The timeline does overlap but most of the work for elections is done and the only thing we have left is the booking of rooms. There is a slight overlap, however I don’t believe it would interfere with the process. 3. Senator Pierre: How would this new Constitution affect the upcoming Senate Retreat? a. Chair Chauhan: It wouldn’t affect it at all, and again- it wouldn’t affect new Senators either as they have no prior knowledge of the Constitution. 4. Senator Gillani: Is it correct that the Constitutional Convention only changes the constitution and not the policy series? We’d have to change the policy series later? a. Chair Chauhan: Yes, but the Committee of Detail would have to ensure that the Policy Series is created well. 5. Senator Urban: Is this going to set a precedent for future generations for SGA when constitutional conventions become more frequent or when there is a new generation? a. Chair Chauhan: We have a lot of ways to keep updating our policies. We continue to do that. The only way we come to that is because changes are substantial and a lot is updated. We don’t need a constitution every five years. This is SGA. We as SGA ask for so much change and when we take a wide lens view and think of SGA in a decade, there is potential for school policies to change. Change needs to be constant. We should have a constitution every ten years or so. We had a convention 9-10 years ago and no one felt the urge to do that until now. If senators as whole and say we don’t agree with the documents, they have a right to change

them. If we don’t have a common ground with our policies, we should change them. b.

S.A. 2026. 91. 01 i. Presented by Chair Chauhan 1. Chair Chauhan moves for a 2-minute moderated caucus a. Motion seconded b. Motion passed i. Chair Chauhan: I really want to make sure everyone is on the same page about the importance of a Constitutional Convention. I think it’s very important as it’s so outdated and it’s unfair to clubs that we make so many updates semesterly. 2. Senator Pierre: I understand the purpose of doing it in the summer so we are ready for the new semester. The new senators wouldn’t know about the constitution. In doing this too early is it too early to set anything afterwards? 3. Vice President Iacobovici: Passing this senatorial action requires unanimity from all except one person. Everyone should be in favor except one person. If two people vote against it, it won’t pass. 4. Chair Dzaveluri moves to close the moderated caucus. a. Motion seconded b. President Ahmad YAY c. Vice President Iacobovici YAY d. Comptroller Peri YAY e. Secretary Thani YAY f. Chair Vira YAY g. Chair Chauhan YAY h. Chair Mansour YAY i. Chair Noel YAY j. Chair Ehrlich YAY k. Chair Ruffo YAY l. Chair Dzaveluri YAY m. Senator Blain YAY n. Senator Danek YAY o. Senator Gillani YAY p. Senator Hinojosa YAY q. Senator Hoffman YAY r. Senator Isreal Jr. YAY s. Senator Manasse YAY t. Senator Multani YAY

u. Senator Painuli YAY v. Senator Pawar YAY w. Senator Pierre ABSTAIN x. Senator Rhodes YAY y. Senator Chacon YAY z. Senator Soares YAY aa. Senator Tenebruso YAY bb.Senator Urban YAY cc. Senator Verdone YAY dd.Motion passed c. Committee of Arrangement Chair Election BALLOT i. Senator Blain: This is my first year in senate, but I believe I would be a really good fit for this position because I have leadership, collaboration skills. I am an RA, orientation leader, and the PR chair for a club. I am looking to get more involved in SGA. I am also working with CR. I can extend my abilities to this committee and effectively collaborate with my committee members. I believe that I could extend my leadership to this position while also building up experience in SGA. a. Senator Pierre: How could you ensure your opinions are different from your decisions? b. Senator Blain: Working as an RA, there are times when I have different opinions from others and have to be impartial, so focusing on what’s good for the order. Just keeping that in mind and not letting it sway my decisions is how I will do that. Those jobs ensure detail and collaboration so I will talk to the committee and not let my opinion sway me. ii. Senator Hoffman: I am a sophomore majoring in English and political science. This will be my second year in SGA. Last year I served as a social chair. We planned internal events for SGA members. I am apart of CR and will be next semester. There needs to be changes. The goal of the committee is to make sure everything is clear. The grammar and everything. I know a lot about grammar being an English major. I like proofreading. My goal is to make sure the constitution is easy to navigate. It is a unique opportunity to produce something we can use to represent everyone for the next 10 years. a. Senator Pierre: How could you ensure your opinions are different from your decisions? b. Senator Hoffman: I would bring it up to committee and just ensure that all the changes are just grammar. I would ensure all senators are able to give their input into the changes.

Senator Urban: I am currently a junior with a major in political science and minor in finance and english. I have been a competing member on the moot court member and on e-boards for political organizations. I have an understanding of how the law functions. I understand that the constitution is important and even a word can have a drastic impact. The committee of style and arrangement is going to have a monumental impact and every word is going to be analyzed and questioned. That is why it is important the chair is honest, and I will ensure that this committee is faithful and transparent and could withstand time and be used in generations to come. a. Senator Pierre: Since you are not on CR, how will the new constitution come into play? b. I have been on the appropriations committee so I have read the policy series and have witnessed how often it has been changed through senatorial actions. So much of SGA changes over time. I can promise you that I have read the constitutions and policies and I agree it does need change. I will ensure our integrity will still be maintained. Chair Ehrlich: I want to speak on behalf of all three and have the traits. I give Blain credit for the role that is brand new and one that we are now testing out. Especially as a new member, I give her credit and appreciate her doing that. For Senator Hoffman, I worked with her as social chair. She was always organized and on top of things. You have to be organized and on top of things for this role. I worked with Senator Urban and I have seen how he works in different organizations. He pays close attention to detail and I know he is someone who is responsible and will be on top of the constitution, no matter how small the change. Chair Dzaveluri: I want to speak on behalf of senator blain. Even though she is a new senator, I know what she is capable of. She is really detail oriented. If she takes on the position, she will fulfill the responsibilities. You should understand SGA to be able to rewrite the constitution. As for Senator Hoffman, her experience in proofreading and so on would be really good. Chair Vira: Our decisions govern all organizations and their bylaws. I want to talk on behalf of Hoffman and Urban. Lily I have worked with, and she was on CR with me. When reviewing SA’s she is very thorough and organized. Urban being a pre-law student and his background, makes me think he’d be a good fit for the role too. Senator Chacon: For Senator Hoffman, I had the privilege of being with her in CR. She has always caught grammar mistakes and she has a very

good attention to detail. She has experience being an English, pre-law major. She has lots of experience both inside and outside of SGA. viii. Chair Ruffo: For Senator Hoffman, she is very intelligent and capable. She is an asset to SGA and she would put lots of care and effort into the role. ix. Chair Vira moves to end the moderated caucus. a. Motion seconded b. Motion passed x. Congratulations Lily! d. S.A.2026.91.02 i. Presented by Comptroller Peri ii. Comptroller Peri: We need to pass financial policies before school starts. The first change is adding a title to section 401.1. It reads semesterly budget instead of annual income and we are scratching fundraising income. Rollover information is updated. We are striking C. We are moving to the policy series. We are changing budget requests to request funding to encompass every single way you can request a budget. We are cutting some things to make it better. In section a we are removing the title and cutting cheque requests. We are cutting many things and replacing them with updates to match what is currently being done. We are changing every instance of biannual to semesterly. We are changing proposals to requests. We are striking 8 meetings because we had 10 last semester. iii. Senator Painuli: I noticed that the amendment is changing the financial reporting from 1 to 3. I was wondering what the reasoning for that was. In terms of wanting more transparency, do we expect those reports to be shared with the student body or just the senate. iv. Comptroller Peri: We already do this during fall retreat, midsemester report and then end-of-year. We are already doing that, so the policy is just making that more transparent. Students are always welcome to come to senate to hear it but I don’t think it’s going to be sent in a mass email. v. Chair Vira moved to pass SA.2026.91.02 a. Motion seconded b. Motion passed e. S.A.2026.91.03 i. Presented by Comptroller Peri and Chair Bokhari ii. Comptroller Peri: We are making changes. 14% instead of 12%. Contingency funds cannot be more than 8%. We are striking the capital fund. We are making a change in rollover. We are creating an excess rollover fund to make sure we don’t spend that much. We don’t want to go into a deficit. We are changing semesterly and weekly allocation budgets. Semesterly budgets cannot be less than 88% and no more than 92%. We

are making a general external fund. This would be 5% of the external budget. This should ensure all clubs get money. We will remove club sports. We are moving things around. There are lots of small changes. iii. Chair Dzaveluri: Are we moving club sports entirely? How were club sports funded? a. Comptroller Peri: SGA is de-recognizing them and all funding for club sports will come through me. The 3.5% from last year is represented by club sports. The Appropriations chair and President then have the ability to go against the comptroller. iv. Chair Ehrlich: Under point 15, it said unconventional budgets instead of annual. What is an unconventional budget? a. Comptroller Peri: This is our policy for music fest. It is a budget that exceeds 50,000. They have to come to use one semester earlier and then we decide how much to allocate to this budget. The appropriations committee then passed it. v. Chair Chauhan: Can you run me through the thought process? We only use the victory fund for emergency reasons like playoffs? Are we going to open the victory fund up now? a. Comptroller Peri: A main goal is to fund fraternities and sororities. We would increase the club sports fund to 5% for all clubs not under the SGA umbrella. It’s just about getting more money for non-SGA organizations. It is up to the discretion of the comptroller. For Club Sports, it would be used for unexpected costs, for other groups, it could be used to pitch in for big events at Hofstra. vi. Chair Chauhan moves to pass S.A.2026.91.03 a. Motion seconded b. Motion passed vii. Chair Dzaveluri moves to strike chair reports a. Motion seconded b. Motion passed C. Approval of the Minutes a. Chair Noel moves to pass the Senate minutes from 5/1 i. Motion seconded ii. Motion passed b. Chair Ehrlich moves to pass the Cabinet minutes from 7/6 i. Motion seconded ii. Motion passed D. E-board Reports a. President i. Reread the minutes & come prepared! ii. Campus Access Committee

Cabinet Agenda Zoom July 06, 2026, 9:00pm Quorum: Present: President M. Ahmad, Vice President J. Iacobovici, Comptroller P. Peri, Chair J. Vira, Chair A. Chauhan, Chair A. Mansour, Chair J. Ehrlich, Chair R. Noel, Chair N. Dzaveluri, Chair S. Ruffo Absent: Secretary K. Thani, Chair F. Bokhari, Agenda: I. Meeting called to order: 9:00 PM II. Icebreaker: What are you most looking forward to next semester? III. Collaborative Business: A. Cabinet Expectations 1. General guidelines a) Being mindful of people’s time; we are here for a reason and have important things to discuss, but we all are busy and have other responsibilities outside of SGA. b) As a volunteer, that may mean sacrificing some of your personal time as a member of cab! c) Check your email weekly, no email should go unanswered for more than 48 hours. d) Meet with Sev if you haven’t already e) Rely on each other! Tough week? Let us know :) B. Budgets 1. General Ideas to consider: a) Can cohosts/departments provide money towards collaborative projects/events? They assume SGA has a lot of money, but that money is not ours- it’s allocated to the clubs who are supposed to benefit from Student Activity Fee.

(1) If SGA’s name is not on the flyer/graphic… make sure it is added. We are funding it, we should be on it! 2. Please remember budgets are due July 24th! a) If you need more time, keep me updated!!! 3. Cab Financial Training a) Can everyone access Finance on GIHU? (1) https://hofstra.campuslabs.com/engage/ C. Cab times on Wednesday? 1. 6:00pm? a) sga_appropriations@pride.hofstra.edu SGA Secretary D. Constitutional Convention 1. SA.2026.91.01 E. Standardization of Canvas Campaign ideas 1. Emailing letter to faculty 2. Maroon Monday 3. Make sure professors know why students want more canvas a) Question’s sticker on Insta about Canvas b) Importance of Canvas c) Panel on educating what Canvas is d) Mid-semester CTR (1) Chair Vira: I love the idea of a campaign. When I met with the Provost we spoke about this issue, we found the idea of mid-semester CTRs could be useful to pinpoint which faculty aren't using canvas and what specifically. This would allow department heads to meet with faculty and share areas they need help in. (2)Vice President Iacobovici: I disagree. I believe that they may make faculty feel isolated and targeted instead of sharing the concern that students have. It may take the point away from what we are advocating for. (3)Chair Vira: That isn’t the hope. The idea is CTRs are here to allow faculty to be more accountable and know based on student feedback how they can improve. (4)Chair Dzaveluri: A lot of students still don’t fill out CTRs, so we can’t ensure they fill out the mid-semester ones too. We should incorporate the senators and allow

them the opportunity to meet with department heads and spread Canvas awareness and its needs. (5)Chair Chauhan: A social media campaign doesn’t seem as reliable because faculty, or at least a lot, aren’t on social media. (6)Chair Ehrlich: Make sure that people know what maroon monday means and know that it's about canvas. SAW week physical paper being held at the saw tables (7)Chair Vira: I like the idea where different senators reach out to different department heads. I also spoke to Provost Riordan about ways to ensure students would fill out CTRs he has thought about may be entered into the raffle once CTR is filled out. (8)Vice President Iacobovici: The goal of the social media aspect is to get students to know about it and become more aware of what SGA is trying to do. I think it’ll help address both targets. As to the Provost’s idea, I saw the residential life survey, which all students need to fill out and are raffled for a $250 gift card, but less than 100 people filled out the survey. (9)Chair Mansour: The social media is for the students and to allow them to feel heard. IV.
