CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE TO HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY! Now is the time to take the next step toward making the best investment possible in your future. Grounded in the liberal arts, a Hofstra education provides the foundation for a life well lived. During a 40-year full-time working life, the median earnings of bachelor’s degree recipients without an advanced degree are 65 percent higher than the median earnings of high school graduates.* At the core of the Hofstra University experience is individualized attention. The campus is large enough to offer world-class resources, but you won’t get lost in the crowd here. In your first year, you’ll be assigned a dedicated advising dean as well as a student financial services counselor. And when you choose a major, a member of our faculty will mentor you. This personal attention carries into the classroom. With an average undergraduate class size of 21 and studentto-faculty ratio of 14-to-1, you can expect your voice to be heard. You’ll also have access to an active, thriving network of more than 134,000 successful alumni who can help you build the confidence and connections you need to reach new heights.
Enjoy the best of both worlds. You’ll live and learn on a beautiful suburban campus – which is a nationally recognized arboretum – that is easily accessible to New York City and hundreds of internship and career opportunities with leading businesses, arts/media companies, nonprofit organizations, and government institutions. At Hofstra, you’ll get the traditional campus experience along with the adventure, cultural resources and real-world applications of an international metropolis. Hofstra University works hard to make a private college education affordable for you and your family, and offers several financial aid options for new undergraduates, including interest-free payment plans and a moneysaving four-year locked-in tuition rate that can help you manage costs from admission through graduation (hofstra.edu/lockedintuitionrate). Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make. A Hofstra degree gets you results. * Education Pays: The Benefits of Higher Education for Individuals and Society, The College Board, 2013.
In fall 2016 we awarded $34.4 million to first-year students, and a total of $106 million in institutional gift assistance was awarded to all entering undergraduate students.
THE RIGHT PROGRAM School of Education
The School of Education comprises the departments of Teaching, Learning and Technology Programs and Specialized Programs in Education. Undergraduates carry a full co-major in an academic area in addition to the education courses necessary for initial certification in early childhood, childhood and secondary education. There are also five-year dual-degree programs, which allow you to earn both an undergraduate and graduate degree in less time than if each degree was pursued separately, which may save you the cost of one or more semesters of tuition. Key features include small class size, individual mentoring, a dedicated curriculum library and field placement opportunities. Fellowships are also available for those who will teach mathematics or science in high-needs areas. You’ll interact with nationally recognized, well-published faculty who will prepare you – using the highly interactive multimedia resources of Hagedorn Hall, which is home to the
School of Education – to meet the requirements to sit for the New York state exams for initial teacher certification, including the Academic Literacy Skills Test, Educating All Students Test, Content Specialty Tests and Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA). Year after year, the edTPA pass rate for Hofstra students is significantly higher than the unofficial statewide average.

The School of Education, within the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, offers undergraduate programs that will nurture your communication, collaboration and leadership skills while preparing you for teacher certification or a career as an education professional. Whether you want to work with children, adolescents or adults, you will participate in meaningful field assignments and observations early on in your studies as you learn to become an advocate for those you teach and serve.
School of Education undergraduates can also rely on high-quality, comprehensive career services from Hofstra University’s Career Center. Career counselors help students build strong resumes and secure valuable internships as well as jobs after graduation. Career Center services and resources include one-on-one appointments with career counselors, access to thousands of job and internship postings, career fairs, on-campus recruitment programs, career-related webshops, mock interviews, resume and cover letter writing, and online management of recommendation letters. In addition, Hofstra University’s Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center provides on-campus experiential learning opportunities at its Diane Lindner-Goldberg Child Care Institute, an early education center for children aged 8 weeks through pre-K, and the Reading/Writing Learning Clinic, which provides literacy support for children and adults.
