The Right Program for You School of Engineering and Applied Science
SEAS is composed of the Department of Engineering (with undergraduate programs in engineering science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering) and the Department of Computer Science (with undergraduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, and computer science and mathematics). In addition, an accelerated dual degree program in computer science allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science within five years. Key features include small class sizes (typically five to 15 students in junior- and senior-level classes), research collaborations with faculty and peers, high job placement rates after graduation, and highly accessible professors who provide real-world
perspective. All full-time faculty hold a Ph.D. and are scholars in their research areas; no classes are taught by teaching assistants or graduate students. In addition, undergraduates have access to laboratories and classrooms with new technologies, machinery and equipment, including a new multimillion-dollar biomedical engineering lab. Computer science students can pursue individualized independent study courses; programs in entrepreneurship are also available for those interested in starting their own business. Engineering students in their junior year can apply for a summer or semester-long “co-op” work experience, giving them hands-on opportunities with local industries that can lead to highly desirable jobs upon graduation.
SEAS undergraduate students can also rely on high-quality, comprehensive career services from Hofstra University’s Career Center. Career counselors help students build strong resumes and secure valuable internships as well as jobs after graduation. Career Center services and resources
