SUMMER 2023

Dear Hockaday Community , THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR IS A PERFECT TIME TO REFLECT AND REMIND US WHY WE ARE PROUD AND GRATEFUL TO BE PART OF THIS COMMUNITY. Hockaday’s faculty and staff work daily to ensure our students learn in an academically challenging and nurturing environment. This summer, many faculty are taking international trips, attending conferences, and furthering their education. Several faculty and staff have been honored with Hockaday awards and grants this year, and you can read more about them on page 25. Additionally, we celebrated two retirees at Commencement. I am grateful to Cresencia Garcia (Housekeeping, 21 years) and Mona Ella Jaggar ’23 and Dr. Laura Leathers

Rejino (Private Music Instructor, 23 years). I wish them both a fulfilling retirement!

This year was filled with academic accomplishments, innovative teaching, and community celebrations. We cheered for our girls on the fields and in the theater and celebrated their learning throughout the year. We enjoyed beloved Hockaday traditions this spring, including the 109th Commencement, which showcased and celebrated our outstanding students and faculty. It was especially joyful for me this year, as I was able to award a diploma to my youngest daughter, Ella Jaggar ’23! We continue to be inspired by our girls, and I have no doubt you will be impressed by their accomplishments as you flip through these pages!

As we wrap up the year, we look forward to celebrating the completion of the Athletics and

Head of Upper School Lisa Culbertson ’96, the 109th Commencement Speaker Amy Talkington ’88, Eugene McDermott Head of School Dr. Laura Leathers, and Board of Trustees Chair Nicole Small ’91

Wellness Project in the fall. You will be amazed at the transformation of our campus, and we can’t wait to see our girls competing on the fields, running on the GREEN track, and utilizing our new outdoor classroom spaces.

I hope you have a restful summer, and I can’t wait to see everyone on campus in the fall. My best,

I want to thank the community for your support and encouragement as I began my tenure as the Eugene McDermott Head of School. This is an extraordinary community and an exciting time in

Believing in the limitless potential of girls, Hockaday develops resilient, confident women who are educated and inspired to lead lives of purpose and impact.
