A VOTE FOR CHANGE OR A VOTE FOR FAMILIARITY?

Why do we continue to elect the same kind of leaders and expect the same result? This is a question I often ask myself as Election 2025 draws near. We witness campaigns flooding the streets, candidates flashing their brightest smiles as they expect the public to vote for them, and promises of change splashed across social media.

But as a student, witnessing yet another election cycle, I can’t help but wonder, are we supporting leaders who will truly serve, or does popularity once again blind us?

treating elections as just another event rather than a crucial responsibility in our country Many voters are drawn to familiar faces such as celebrities, political dynasties, and candidates with the loudest campaigns But does a famous last name or a viral social media presence guarantee good governance? History tells us otherwise.

and we are empowered, educated, and we have a voice Let's use that voice to speak for the voiceless. We need to break free from the mindset that elections are mere popularity contests. Instead, we must demand quality over the show, track records over taglines, and action over ambition.

Allan M. Pomada Principal III

For years, Philippine politics has been plagued by the same pattern, name recognition outweighing credentials and charisma overshadowing competence. Many people remain ignorant,

As a student myself, I believe that we hold the power to change this pattern We make up a significant part of the voting population, and our decisions can shape the nation’s future I believe in the words of Jose Rizal: "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan" or "The youth is the hope of our country " We have so much more to offer

The 2025 elections are not just about choosing leaders; they are about choosing the direction of our country Before we cast our votes, let's ask ourselves, are we really voting for the right people? Are we electing real leaders, or are we just following the crowd? The future of our country depends on our answer

AI: BOON OR BANE?

As we’ve all observed, the use of AI has been widely utilized by students, much to the point that they have become too dependent on it. They use it to answer almost all of their school work, making their thinking and interpreting skills dead. This is why petitions to ban its use have been circulating. However, protests from experts to not ban the use of AI have also reached the ears of the government–making us wonder, should AI continue?

Amid teachers’ concerns over the use of artificial intelligence in school works, the Department of Education and several universities believed that the use of AI was unavoidable, and they were thus creating guidelines on its use. Since its application is inescapable, experts say that we should continue it, just with limitations.

House Bill 7913, or most commonly known as the Artificial Intelligence

LOVE: A LESSON IN LIFE

Love and school are words that are often used together in romantic novels. They could meet and flourish the hearts of young school girls dreaming and fantasizing about their own Prince Charming. However, having such romantic relationships during studying isn’t necessary. We can but we can also not indulge ourselves in this type of “deep socialization.”

Many people say that high school days are the best days in life. These are the times when they can live their life more freely, without any real responsibilities. So, a lot of students would start having these romantic relationships and make the six years of their lives memorable.

According to Matthew E. Kopfler, a Psychologist in Loyola University, although it is true that engaging in romantic relationships would give

the persons involved a higher self-esteem by having the support of each other, they can still feel stress brought about by their various tasks at home, school, and other friends which are somewhat conflicting. There are also cases that those who do not engage in a relationship would feel left out, but they would still perform better in academics. Love is a necessity. We need love for us to survive in this cruel world. But there are many kinds of love. Looking for someone of the gender we prefer and start a romantic thing with them isn’t what necessarily keeps us going. We also need love, care, and support from our family, friends, and most especially, God. We are free to do and choose whatever decision we want to make as long as we are fully aware of our limitations and responsibilities.

words without even comprehending its answer.

University of Santo Tomas Department of Philosophy Faculty Member Professor Franz Giusepppe Cortez was not completely against the use of AI. He was concerned that students may become excessively reliant on it.

Education accepted the fact that technology wasdeveloping at a rapid pace and artificial intelligence could not be avoided. So instead of finding ways to stop AI, why don’t we just make rules for its use?

Regulation Act defines AI as a system with humancompetitive intelligence that can pose profound risks to society and humanity, as shown by extensive research and acknowledged by top AI labs. Thus the need for a set of variables that can minimize its danger and provide a more reliable and trustworthy use. AI has become a trend to almost all the students. Instead of thinking hard and creatively, students would just rely on “copy-pasting” its

“We can speak of the demise of thinking itself, the death of thinking, the death of interpretation,” said Cortez in Mariz Umali’s Monday “24 Oras” report. These terms hold the truth. With the way this is going, the students’ ability to understand and genuinely answer the tasks given will go down the drain along the rain of continuous AI development.

However, we also cannot deny the fact that AI has been a great help to those who use it properly. “A chatbot can be an opportunity to have dynamic ways of teaching grammar,” said Data Ethics PH Executive Director Dominic Ligot.” I think it’s a bigger sin to ban it or to discourage the use of it.”

Even the Department of

That’s exactly the question that the DepEd answered when they planned to create clear rules on the correct way the technology may be used and even may be included in the curriculum.

“No one can stop the progress of artificial intelligence, it will inevitably be a central force in our future.” Max Tegmark quoted. However, we should go back to square one and realize who made AI in the first place. Humans, right? So, if we can create it, we can also stop it. But that’s not the main issue right now. People, especially those who are considered as the hope of our nation, are gradually using AI improperly, but its benefits are not something to just be destroyed – making us wonder, again, should AI continue?

CLOCKED IN NOW 06 06 EEDITORIAL DITORIAL THE GLEAM

Tick tock, tick tock, can you hear it? Each gentle beat of the clock is more than just a sound. It's an invitation to start now, so will you answer the call?

After all, time may be gold. But too often we treat it as if it were an endless resource until that dreaded time arrives like the night before an exam when we find ourselves drowning in deadlines, sacrificing precious sleep, and in that hectic moment, we find ourselves dealing with excessive stress and questioning the choices we’ve made along the way. The true problem isn't just a lack of time, it's how we use it.

The main issue isn’t merely a lack of time, it also lies in our management of it.

Procrastination can easily lure even the most diligent students. We convince ourselves that we’ll start our project “tomorrow” or continue to scroll through social media, believing we’ll have plenty of time later. But the truth is, time moves on regardless of our procrastination. This misconception that we have an excess amount of time often leads to unneeded worry, last-minute cramming sessions and eventually, disappointing performance in school. I believe that time management should be practiced since it has a profound impact especially on us students.

Research underscores the Britton and Tesser (1991) discovered that students who used time management

approaches such as goal planning and preparing todo lists had a significant reduction in stress and an increase in academic achievement. Their findings demonstrated that students who actively planned and followed their schedules received higher grades and were more satisfied with their schedules received higher grades and were more satisfied with their academic experience than those who did not engage in comparable practices. To truly overcome procrastination, we must practice prioritization and discipline. Practicing the scientifically established tactics such as the Pomodoro Technique, which involves focusing intensively on a subject for 25 minutes and then taking a 5-minute break can significantly increase our that compete for our

productivity. Additionally, time-blocking in which we set aside specific hours for specific subjects or chores will help us keep our focus and momentum. And setting feasible realistic goals is also important since it breaks down big tasks into manageable parts. Saying no to distractions

PUV MODERNIZATION: HOW CAN LIFE CONTINUE?

How can life continue?

These are the words that have been circulating in the minds of our everyday heroes, the “tsupers” (jeepney drivers). They have been providing us with services all day long just so we can get to wherever we want to go. But now that they are facing a huge breakdown, what will happen to those who have given us their smiles despite the hardships on the road?

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory

Board (LTFRB) will give unconsolidated jeepneys a 15-day leeway to still play their routes before the government starts impounding their vehicles. Are we really going to have a countdown? What for? To further torture the hopes of each drivers?

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 8749, there is a need to ensure proper and responsible disposal of old and non-roadworthy PUV units. As such, the Vehicle Useful Life Program seeks to

establish vehicle scrappage facilities capable of disposing of waste material from old, dilapidated units The purpose is stated clearly, but the given solution is still a blur for everyone’s eyes Instead of completely removing it, why don’t they just propose ways to enhance the capabilities and remove the risks of a jeepney? Must the phase-out be the only way?

Development is inevitable It is a factor that can help our country grow even more capable That is why implementing modernized vehicles is fine, too But completely damaging the livelihood of some Filipinos just to give way to developed transportation is the bad part We cannot let this happen.

The government may rebut, but it wouldn’t change the fact that they are making the hard lives of Filipinos even harder

“Initially, during the first 15 days, sawayin

muna ‘yung mga tao, bigyan ng reminder. Hindi naman po kaagad-agad,” LTFRB Chairman Teofito Guadiz III said in a DZBB radio interview on Monday, April 29. What is bound to happen after the stated time will surely be like that hell found its way above Earth.

The decision comes just as the “final” deadline for jeepney consolidation approaches on April 30. The LTFRB has yet to release a memorandum circular stating exactly what will happen to unconsolidated jeepneys starting last May 1, and whether or not they will be considered “colorum.”

However, Guadiz has said in the past that those who fail to consolidate will have their franchises revoked.

So, after years of being within the culture and serving as a symbol for Filipino identity, traditional jeepney driving will just be considered an illegal form of work and drivers will be subjected to punishment as if it was a crime. What a laughable change of pace.

attention, extracurricular obligations that overextend our capacities which frequently leads to procrastination, is a critical component of good time management. It's not just about cramming more work into each waking hour. It's about making decisions to START NOW.

However, all hope is never lost The consolidation requirement has promoted repeated protests from some transportation groups, led by PISTON and Manibela, including an ongoing transport strike from Monday to Wednesday Both groups oppose the revocation of their individual franchises

Countless petitions to save our beloved vehicle have also been spreading far and wide, across all areas in the Philippines We just hope that these movements would thaw the frozen hearts of our executives

“No to Jeepney Phaseout ” These words are heard or seen everywhere. From cyberspace up to the real world, everyone is uniting to stop the removal of our traditional jeepneys. We are all constantly hoping and praying to please just let the poor drives be However, if these protests will backfire and the unfortunate decision will go on, how can life continue?

The chess team also secured a strong showing, claiming silver in the overall competition. Individual chess players earned bronze medals, adding to the school's impressive medal count. Sir Allan M. Pomada, Principal III of Handumanan National High School, commended the athletic dedication, teamwork, and outstanding performance at the Unit IV Athletic Meet. Their victories are a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of their fans. Go Handumanan!

21 on the 3rd set of the game, they advances their defense and with help from each teammate, the ball was able to hit the floor inside of the G11 side, with Ejay Perez scoring 8 points for his team concluded "The Grade 11 really had a good team. With their tight floor defense, scoring to them is definitely not easy and their service is consistent, also, they had a great wing spiker.” The Grade 11 players demonstrated unwavering spirit, solid

teamwork, and impressive offensive and defensive strategies throughout the game. Both teams exhibited exceptional talent and sportsmanship, making the finals of the volleyball Intramurals competition a memorable and exciting event for all involved. Keep the hype fresh! As the bigger league is coming, the men's volleyball team will be facing the next upcoming unit meet.

The World of Athletics

thletics are a variety of competitions composed of sprinting, walking, jumping, and throwing events. Although these sports are called track-and-field in several states of America, it is still known as athletics elsewhere. Track-and-field or athletics are the oldest forms of organized sports, having developed most of the most basic but challenging human activities for people to try. Athletics have become an international sport, with nearly every country participating in some form of competition, considering it to be almost global because most nations send teams of men and women to participate in any forms of olympics and to the official world championships of track-and-field. There are also several continental and intercontinental championship meets held, including European, Commonwealth, African, Pan

African, and Asian countries. In many parts of the world, especially the United States, Canada, and Europe, the sports get to be held indoors during winter, because of limited space, some events are modified and several are eliminated altogether, also within the general scope of track-and-field, athletics come separate but related competitons that are not contested on the track. Such as; cross country running competitions are carried out on various types of countryside and parkland. The rules followed by all organized competitors are established by World Athletics (formerly the "International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF]) and its member body from each nation. World athletics also ratifies all world records which makes athletics fun.

A Cough That Won't Quit When A Challenge Becomes a Path: An Alzheimer's Story

hat was considered a slight cold back then is now a disease causing complications and death.

Pertussis, also known as the whooping cough, is a vaccine-preventable and highly infectious respiratory disease spread rapidly through coughing, sneezing and speaking. Among all cases identified, the percentage of patients with pertussis among 10 years old and above reached more than half depending on the country. Several studies were conducted in Brazil,

Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Chile, however, no studies clearly assessed the status of pertussis carriers in this age group. It is very challenging to diagnose adults and adolescents with pertussis due to lack of sensitive diagnostic tools and clinical presentation. Because of this, people tend to consider pertussis as nothing but a normal cold. As long as there are no concrete results regarding the study of pertussis, the real danger behind this infamous whooping cough will be

disregarded as well. Then, will the risk be nothing but symptoms of lies? This is even more threatening among the most vulnerable populations such as newborns, children, and pregnant women, making it essential to assess the health risk of pertussis. Any illness, mild or not, should not be ignored. Although pertussis is considered a childhood disease, it is increasingly recognized as an important cause of infection and respiratory disease. There could be worse results to the simplest cause.

Volcanoes: The Sleeping Giants

The sleeping giants are awake! cone shape from a distance, the Taal volcano which is one of the smallest volcanoes in the world, and many more.

With more than one thousand and five hundred volcanoes all over the world, these infamous land furnaces are both awe inspiring and sometimes terrifying. Volcanoes are like mountains but with a crater on top. Deep inside, volcanoes contain extremely hot molten rocks called magma. Magma is collected in the magma chamber, but as it slowly builds up, some eventually forces its way up through vents, causing an eruption. When it does, the magma rises towards the surface and becomes lava. However, this is not always the case as volcanoes erupt and release ash, dust and gases even without lava. In the Philippines, there are over 300 volcanoes held in high regard not only as land resources but also as tourist destinations for both locals and foreigners These famous spots include the Mayon volcano for its perfect

Most volcanoes in the Philippines remain dormant through the years, but some have a little bit too much sugar than the others. Negros Island, in particular, has the most active volcano in the Visayas Region, the Kanlaon Just a couple months ago, the Kanlaon volcano had its most recent eruption and now has more than 40 eruptions recorded since 1819.

With that being said, volcanoes aren't all charismatic and noble. The dangers brought by the substances released during eruption threatens the safety and livelihood of the citizens, especially those living within the area of the volcano. That's why we should always be alert.

Predicting eruptions also remains a significant challenge, but the advancements of today's technology and techniques developed have greatly improved our ability to assess volcanic hazards.

Volcanoes may be a destructive force of nature, but it has a constructive purpose that contributes to the beauty of the Earth's landscapes. Not to mention, after an eruption, beautiful structures might form with the lava or even with the accumulated debris.

Volcano hazards cannot be controlled, but we can decrease the casualties with preparation. In the end, every problem is a test of resilience. And after every crisis comes a new beginning. So we better kiss those volcano giants goodnight!

"It's Alzheimer's." The doctor spoke in a hushed voice as we stood by the corner of his office, glancing at the woman sitting by his table. It was then that my mother was diagnosed, and my dreams became burdens.

I've always wanted to be a dancer, performing for the world and spreading my name far and wide. But for the first time, with an ill mother and a doctor looking at me with pity, the world suddenly felt so heavy on my shoulders. Alzheimer's disease is a condition that affects the brain. It's not commonly hereditary, but both my grandparents have it. So we had a higher risk of it than others. Maybe I should expect myself to have it, too? Since then, days have become hectic. My mother is losing everything, everywhere. She lost her keys, she lost her phone, she even forgot where the bathroom in our house is. I could barely leave her alone before she forgets something again. I skipped classes and dance practice several times a week until I eventually stopped coming.

I ignored the protests of my teachers and friends about stopping school and dancing and spent my time taking care of my mother. That was until after a few days when I encountered a promotional program of a pharmaceutical company. They have developed a drug called Donanemab which could slow the advance of Alzheimer's by approximately one-third, and will distribute the first

batches in the next few days.

My eyes sparkled. My mother's condition is still mild so it's fine to hope that this drug can help her, right? I immediately went to research more about it.

"Donanemab acts as an antibody against betaamyloid, which builds up in spaces between brain cells and forms distinctive plaques that are one of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's." I read from their website. I firmly decided to participate in the distribution program for the drug. "We are now entering the time for disease modification, where we might realistically hope to treat and maintain someone with Alzheimer's disease." The woman called Dr. Cath Mummery said as she stood on the stage. My heart throbbed with hope. People lined up to receive the drug and my fingers shook as I held the set of pills in my hand. My mother began consuming the pills for a few weeks and I began to see the difference in her. Although still a bit forgetful, she isn't hindered by it as much as before. The drug was working.

By the time I graduated high school, I pursued nursing instead of dancing. I realized that my mother's illness made me understand how hard it is and guided me to take this path.

Dreams don't always come true. Sometimes, they're merely a path that leads us to something greater.

Dreams don't always come true.

Be Careful: Not Everything is Based on Facts

n today’s world filled with uncertainty, do you think everything you see on the internet is real?

Have you ever wondered if the person speaking in front of the camera is actually a person, or is it just powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Do you usually believe in the information they are discussing? Or the person who started it? It is difficult and very alarming, especially since it is rampant on social media. But how can we spot the difference? It is called Deepfake. According to Oxford Languages, this occurs when an edited video of an individual is swapped

with another person or even with someone who does not exist. Deepfakes are used to provide false information to manipulate people’s thoughts about the person being edited. This can influence people’s perspectives and opinions. Politicians and famous celebrities are common targets of these. Besides the negative impact of it, it also helps us in some other ways. It can be used for scientific research or educational purposes. This can also be used for entertainment purposes that you and your friends can laugh about.

It is hard to figure out if the video you are seeing is

always real. However, watermarks and unnatural body movements of a person on the phone can help a lot. Listen carefully to the information given; if something is too good to be true or can rarely happen, be cautious. Most importantly, always check if the page is reliable. Those are just a few tips to avoid deepfakes on the internet. Stay informed about current events. Don’t always believe in the information you are watching or hearing just because influential people talk about it. Think critically and differentiate between what is real and what is entertaining.

Man Against Nature

Toolessisdangerous,buttoomuchisjustasperilous.

Summer is near and the appearance of the climatological phenomen a, El Niño, in the Philippines has caused yet again another uproar to the citizens. These days, the impacts of the phenomena has affected several regions with droughts and other issues, leading to the suspension of classes in different levels and disturbance to the economy. Carrying severe impacts which could affect the well being and livelihood of people, the El Niño poses a grave threat to the country.

The El Niño is a weather event that appears irregularly between 2 to 7

years and lasts about half a year. It is a naturally occuring phenomena which involves warming the surface of the ocean and eventually lead to extreme weather events.

The dry spells, heavy rainfall and heat waves caused by the El Niño causes multiple problems globally, especially in tropical countries. In the Philippines, where droughts and dry spells are expected, this could affect the climatesensitive industries such as agriculture and public welfare. In addition, the heat waves affect the well being of the citizens, leading to illnesses such as

heat stroke and high blood pressure, while the droughts may eventually cause crop failure and affect food production. Not only that, the spread of diseases such as cholera and Zika virus which typically occur during the hot season increases because of the effects of El Nino.

These days, the Philippines heat index seems to dominate the charts more than celebrities as the forecasted average temperature hit 42° Celsius. According to PAGASA, the El Nino remains active and is expected to persist until May 2024. This has led to several schools to change the whole day class schedule into half day classes. Furthermore since the beginning of March,

the temperature has reached the "extreme caution" and "danger" levels, which means the average temperature has reached 40-50° Celsius. In the West Visayas region, the suspension of classes was ordered in several cities such as Ilo-Ilo and Bacolod City, although private schools with air conditioned rooms were given discretion to continue face to face classes.

The extreme heat alerted even the Department of Education which led to several adjustments in the classes these months, including shortened class hours and allowance of comfortable clothes in school. The issue raised several ideas to mitigate the negative effects

of the heat wave, especially to the students The suspension of classes is also announced whenever the heat index passes the normal temperature range to secure the safety and well being of both teachers and students

The El Niño this year has set the heat record as one of the strongest in the list The disruption and negative impacts it caused is a call for the implementation of better disaster and climate resilience Either globally or locally, uncontrollable events such as this can only be mitigated with cooperation and countermeasures That is because unlike physical adversities, what is man against nature?

UNSTOPPABLE:Not even the Rain could dampen the Handumanians spirit!

Was the rain a paid actor?

This seemingly comedic question kept warm and heated up amidst the sudden harsh downpour during what I thought was now gonna be an impossible event to continue, continuing even better than ever, right before my eyes. Was it really all just a coincidence? Isn't the timing just too perfect to be true? How did it even get to this? Where did it all start to begin with? I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock, persistently ringing way earlier than usual in my ear today. After all, I was excited to join the School Parade that was just getting started. Among the large group of people, each and everyone was wearing their perspective grade's color scheme. There were students wearing blue, red, yellow, and green PE uniforms. By the time the parade was finished, and the morning sunlight was fully glistening, the main part of today's event officially started. The opening program started with the Handumanan prayer, followed by the Pambansang Awit, HNHS Alma Mater song, and the welcome address by our beloved school Principal Sir Allan M. Pomada. This was soon followed by our esteemed speakers' important messages, the raising of year level banners, the Oath of Amateurism, the Lighting of Torch, and finally, the declaration of the Opening of Intramurals 2024. At last, the playground demo finally kickstarted with an

ear deafening cheer coming from both the audience and students alike. Before the start of each grade levels performance, a representative came up on stage to briefly explain how their assigned sports play out. All of the performing year levels were wonderful. Each performer's choreography left me starstruck as I watched and enjoyed the whole show from start to finish. From the Senior High showcasing their sports such as Javelin throw, Pencak Silat, and more through their intricate dance moves. Followed by the Grade 8's synchronized hand and leg movements during their execution of their sports baseball, football, and chess. To the Grade 7's wonderful execution of the sports bowling and hoops, and the Grade 10's lively and energetic display of their sports like Badminton through their dance steps. However, one particular grade level managed to capture the hearts of everyone in the crowd. As the defending champion and the absolute winner of last year's playground demonstration, their overall vibe was entirely different. Just when sweat was about to form around my forehead, the vibrant blue skies filled with the warm sunshine suddenly disappeared and was replaced by a thick layer of dark gray clouds, heavy and ready to burst any moment. It didn't make any sense, how could such a

Ma’am Carolina E. Corpus, Assistant Principal II, got installed as the new Assistant Principal of Handumanan National High School – Senior High School last October 15, 2024.

Ma’am Corpus shared that she wants to “implement programs, most especially for the welfare of the students and teachers, maintain the image through preserving or enhancing the academic performance of the school, and find a solution to the lack of TVL teachers” now that she is in this position.

bright sunny day suddenly turn into this harsh heavy rain? "This is literally perfect, their assigned sport was swimming after all." This one single remark from a random person in the crowd behind me fully enlightened me. I looked back to the Grade 9 dancers right in front of me as I thought they'd be sad and disheartened by now. Yet, I was proven wrong by their full energy, along with all of their jaw dropping dance steps and choreography that almost seemed to have been meticulously planned to cater to this sudden unexpected harsh weather that we were having. What surprised me more was the rain, slowly dissipating as their performance also slowly came to an end. At last, the rain faded away as the crowds roared and cheers echoed all over the whole entire field. When the rankings were later announced, the Grade 8 performers got 5th place, followed by the Grade 7 as the 4th place, Senior High as the 3rd place, Grade 10 as the 2nd place, and last but not the least is Grade 9 as the 1st place and the reigning champion of the Handumanan Playground Demonstration 2024. As the event came to a wrap, most of the students had the same exact question stuck in their minds and as their conversation topic for the rest of the day. That question is..

“I’m very happy because I’m returning home, closer to my family.” Ma’am Corpus shared as she reminisced her feelings during her installation rites.

Her self-determination, strong commitment, and being ambitious helped her pass the

Assistant Principal Exam and successfully gained her position.

“When I was a teacher, I only dreamed of becoming a Head Teacher. That’s the most I’ve ever dreamed of, but because of those people who encouraged me to take my position to the next level, to take the exam, so I tried, then I passed.”

“Do not give up. There’s always a second chance. If you fail, you can still try again. The most important thing in life is your will and determination. We need to be ambitious.” Ma’am Corpus lastly shared words of inspiration.

As each staff member introduced themselves, the participants of the orientation were also asked if they wanted to enter their respective categories, causing not disappointment but laughter as a few shy hands were raised.

The air smelled of anticipation as aspiring journalists gathered at the Audio Visual Room of Handumanan National High School, last November 9, 2024, for the launching of a new era in campus journalism. At approximately 9:40 AM, the orientation began with the traditional

Apreach that I’ve heard multiple, if not countless times during the span of my short-lived existence. It is always ingrained in every child; naive and innocent minds in some way or another.

Yet here I stand. In this bustling, ear-deafening, murky pathway, staring right down at a very small and scrawny boy in ragged clothes covered in mud and soot all over his face reaching his left hand out for a spare change. It’s truly quite unfortunate and a tear drop almost left my eye. Not until I saw that very same pitiful boy, take a whiff out of a plastic bag and make such an indescribably twisted expression full of ecstasy right in front of my face.

As enticing as it may sound, “Rugby” isn’t something that malnourished little kids should have anything to do with Because although the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002 (Republic Act 9165) does not include solvents in the list of dangerous drugs and substances, inhalant abuse of rugby still causes permanent damage to the brain and may even tragically result in a ‘sudden sniffing death ’ It can also cause a loss of memory, confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, and also deals a lot of damage

With no hesitation, unique voices were heard as the students let their talents shine, both individually and in pairs, underscoring their desire and determination to showcase their abilities in broadcasting

Finally, the event concluded at 10:30 with a few reminders and appreciation from the school paper adviser, generating a resounding round of applause and a sense of shared purpose

Celebrating the Guiding Lights of Education

Juan Dela Cruz, a young lad longingly looked at his classmates showing off their fancy gifts and freshly picked flowers that they had prepared for their kind teacher Maria. He felt small as he glanced at the crumpled paper in his hand with a short dedication letter written on it, "Happy Teacher's Day Miss Maria".

He sadly peeked outside. Everyone seemed to be full of life and enthusiastic on this day of the year. It was the 5th day of October, and the cold breeze of the year-end air seeped through his skin as he thought about how he begged his mother to buy even just a bar of chocolate to give to his favorite teacher.

He admired how his teachers selflessly devote their time, effort, and passion to educating them even just a bar of chocolate to give to his favorite

teacher.

He admired how his teachers selflessly devote their time, effort, and passion to educating them. He is grateful for how they go beyond what they can offer to educate them. He smiled warmly at how Miss Maria would even share with him her food, money, and even some school supplies.

Juan Dela Cruz is just one of the students who marvel at the contribution of their teachers in their lives. They may not be able to express it through extravagant things or beautiful flowers, but their hearts are full of love and appreciation for what they have imparted.

Teachers hold a profound influence over the lives of their students. They serve as educators, mentors, and role models, leaving an enduring legacy in the minds and hearts of those they teach.

Broken STEM

To the roots we left behind

We passed through, ready to climb

We galloped and swallowed

All the pain before triumph

Such new beginnings And sad partings

We fought through And cut the strings

We imagined the wind Pulling us up

We thought of water Filling the cup

We thought of peace

We thought of magic

How did we forget

This is just imagined

Now we're below the flower

Thought of reaching high But how could we forget We couldn't fly

It began to shed

The skin of its layer

Blood has bled

With screams in prayer

Enough of the truth

Enough of the lies

Inside the crop

We have no allies

Broken smarts

Canvas with no art

Who would've thought The fresh start will tear us apart

THE LEGEND OF MARIA MAKILING

In the heart of the ancient mountain, Where shadows dance and moonlight glistens, Maria Makiling, in all her grace, Fell for a mortal, a fleeting face.

She shared her world of glistening streams, Of whispered hopes and timeless dreams. Her gifts were gold, her touch was rain, Yet love’s turned into pain.

Gat Dula, noble, brave, and kind.

Ready to fight for any kind, For him Maria is a noble prize

Yet hid a secret behind his eyes

She desires to make her

feelings known Shared her secret, hidden inside her heart, Thought she could trust the one she admires, For whom she loves betrayed her heart.

Yet possess a wit sharp as any blade, For them they believed that she's a curse.

The wind lingers as they mold, For them Maria is gold.

His people feared, they whispered lies, In their hatred, they cut their ties.

He could not stand against the tide, And so, from Maria, he would hide.

"I want to be forever young..."

I know, most of us don't want to grow up. I know a lot of us here want to be forever young. Maybe if there's only a pill that can actually stop us from getting old, we'll gladly take a lot of it. However, that's clearly impossible to happen.

As we age, a lot of bigger responsibilities await, and we already get tired just by thinking about them. Adulting is inevitable, we can't run away from it, and no matter how hard we wish to be a kid again, it'll always remain as our hopeful desire

But little did we know, we were never afraid of growth. Truth be told, change and growth come together. What scares us is the possibility of the things to change---changes in our personalities, changes in our surroundings, changes in our lives, and changes in the people we dearly love. A lot of circumstances will happen that will surely change the way we treat other people and the way we perceive life. What fears us the most is the fact that, as we grow up, our loved ones will slowly leave our side. Our priorities in life will change, and we'll forget the inner child that lives within us

"You changed a lot, you are not the person that I used to know anymore "

It's true, but I know that day by day we're just trying our best to survive this cruel world, and that's how it changed us and how it shaped us to where we are right now. On the other hand, may we all remember to treat ourselves with kindness. The pace of this world is fast; therefore, be gentle with yourself. It's okay to cry like a child when life gets tough, and at the same time, it's alright to laugh everything out like an adult. Let's remind ourselves that we were once kids, and there's nothing wrong with feeling like it again. We can still be young, if we want to. We can always be a child at heart if we choose to

The Kid I Once Was

Disappeared into the depths of the forest, With her heart shattered like the fallen leaves.

A pond of tears now owns her whole, For her life is lost, no longer whole.

For Gat Dula, noble and brave, Promised his love, but could not save.

Torn by duty, torn by fear, In the end, he wasn’t near. Maria, broken, felt his lie, Disappeared without goodbye.

Into the forest, deep she fled, Her heart, once bright, now cold and dead.

2 minutes staring, smiling. Popping notifications, back to the pictures, again.

2 minutes staring, grinning. Foolish me, so amused, like I’m right there, the kid I once knew

2 minutes staring, crying. A kid in pictures, now lost in time.

Longing for what was never soft, searching for what was never kind.

RELIVING MEMORIES:Negros Occidental's Best summer Getaways!

I snapped back to reality when I heard my friend's water bottle drop and spill water all over my now drenched lower body. I stared below, starting to feel the coldness of the ice filled water bath as I slowly regained my consciousness after my head went blank from the heat that I’m feeling due to the drastically increasing Heat index in Negros Occidental that has reached over 41° as of lately. As I continued to stare at the puddle right beneath my feet, Memories of my past Summer trips came flashing right inside of my head. The feeling of cold water wrapping around my skin, the fresh, cool air gently blowing at my loosely tied up hair. The gentle ray of the sun, shining a

nice warm sparkle on my soft skin. Moments that felt nothing short of pure bliss, a complete contrast of the current hell that I’m forced to live in.

I wish I could just escape this torturous place and jump in any wonderful and vibrant body of water I could swim in. Among all of the places I've been to so far, I wonder which among them could possibly quench this burning sensation that I’m feeling at the moment ? A few place came to mind. They're exactly where I need to go right now. Places I desperately need to go back to and freshen myself up this instant

If I'm thinking about somewhere quite close and easily accessible as I live in the Capital City of Negros(Bacolod), then this hidden gem located in Bago City called the

"Mailum Falls ecopark and mountain resort" is definitely the Place to go to!

This place truly made me feel like I was inside of a fantasy wonderland with it's tantalizing waterfalls and unique natural structures of the body of water surrounding it. This place totally screams nature all around so not even a shred of heat will pierce through, and the water coming out of the falls will keep you fresh and awestruck amidst the intense heat which is just the perfect place to go to as of the moment!

If I wanna be more laid back and just chill in the water while admiring the most stunning view ever, then going to one of the most popular beach resort named "Perth Paradise Resort" located 170 km southwest of Bacolod city, in a city branded as "The jewel of

We were once dreamers

the Sugar Island", otherwise more commonly known as the Marvelous Sipalay City wouldn't be so bad. This wonderful place has not only a great accommdation and atmosphere, but also has an "Infinity Pool" where you could gaze at the view of multiple islands, that could cater to your summer heat worries. Aside from that, you could also go snorkeling, Islandhopping, and many more It truly lives up to its name, It's a Paradise!!

But the most fun and exciting destination I've ever gone to would most definitely be the "Asiana Beach Resort" located at the southern most part of negros, In the municipality of Hinobaan.

The white sand beach was truly a spectacle worth seeing as you sit comfortably in their eye catching, colorful beach shore umbrellas and

Have you ever wondered what it feels like if we achieve all the things we once dreamed of?

Well, as kids, we do have a lot. We want to be someone like our successful family member, or we just want to be a superhero Some of us just wanted to be instantly rich and live a private and peaceful life There'd be even situations wherein we want to be Doctors today when we just dreamed of being Lawyers yesterday We are free to choose our dreams, for as innocent children, we thought that this world was endless and no one could stop us from dreaming "Libre lang mangarap"

It was true, it is indeed free to dream But as time goes by, reality hits us hard As we enter the life of adulthood, we tend to realize that achieving all of our dreams is not easy at all We're now afraid of our life decisions We tend to doubt every move and step we take because the thought of being a failure scares us. We can't deny the fact that the expectations of others ruined the child that lives within us The noise of the people who surround us crushed every dream we had. And therefore, we ourselves became harsh. Just to achieve every bit of it, we have to work day and night, even to the point where we forget to pause and take a rest for a while

"How come that a dreamer once was now about to give up?" We have to accept that sometimes our best isn't as good as we think it is There'd be times when life would disappoint us---that we sometimes can't live the life we once dreamed of, and that's okay Things might not actually go according to plan, but we have to remember that everything happens for a reason Maybe God is redirecting you and your plans, as we should not think that He's rejecting us You can still try and try, for there's always tomorrow "May the fire of dreaming in your heart keep on burning." We were all dreamers, but let's not allow our mere failures and disappointments to stop us from dreaming, for as long as we live, there'll always be hope.
