President (a)

Facilitates and leads the MSC, using their role to advocate for HMS-Master’s students with the support of the Student Affairs team in the Office for Graduate Education (OGE).

(b)

Leads by example with ideas for communicating, collaborating, and community-building.

(c)

Serves by liaising with the Dean’s Office and facilitating Open Meetings with the student body and meetings with the Senior Associate Dean, as deemed necessary.

(d)

Organizes internal operations, works with the Director of Communications and Social Media to handle outward communication and messaging.

(e)

Sets meeting agenda and assists with reviewing and delegating tasks at the end of each meeting.

Vice President (a)

Works closely with the President.

(b)

Assumes the President's duties when needed.

(c)

Works with the President and Treasurer in preparing the calendar and budget.

(d)

Assists the President with preparing meeting agendas.

(e)

Participates in MSC-sponsored activities/events

Secretary General (a)

Keeps accurate records of all meetings, correspondence, and student decisions.

(b)

Prepares and distributes the agenda for each meeting to all council members.

(c)

Organizes and schedules meetings, and may preside over meetings in the President's absence.

(d)

Maintains effective communication with student welfare and other Harvard institutions.

(e)

Administers, enforces, and ensures compliance with the MSC bylaws.

(f)

Takes responsibility for handing over all records to their successor and OGE.

(g)

Keeps a roster of all active members.

(a)

Manages the MSC budget and sees that the funds are spent wisely and appropriately allocated for activities like food, beverages, materials, at school events.

(b)

Keeps detailed records of all transactions, including allocations and expenditures.

(c)

Prepares financial reports for the MSC, Students Affairs team, and OGE as needed.

(d)

Takes responsibility for handing over all financial records and accounts to their successor and OGE.

(e)

Acts in accordance with the guidelines for school funds.

Director of Communications and Social Media (a)

Takes responsibility for communicating with the media and the student body.

(b)

Manages the MSC's social media account(s).

(c)

Keeps the MSC website up to date.

(d)

Coordinates public relations, such as event advertising and website announcements.

(e)

Keeps students engaged and informed about the council’s operations.

(f)

Establishes connections with the surrounding community.

(g)

Increases awareness of MSC with other, similar student councils across Harvard.

Director of Policy and Advocacy (a)

Works collaboratively to develop and implement advocacy strategy on behalf of the student body.

(b)

Conducts research and analysis to identify areas of interest.

Director of Operations (a)

Acts as a liaison between the student body and the MSC, coordinating communication through email, social media, and other approved platforms.

(b)

Coordinates communication within the MSC, especially with the President.

(c)

Attends and participates in all general and executive meetings of the MSC.

Additional Responsibilities Shared by All MSC Members (a)

Perform other duties not listed here that pertain to their role and are deemed necessary by the OGE and the Student Affairs team.

(b)

Represent the student body in their interactions with administration and peers, subordinating personal agendas to the needs of the students and HMS-Master’s community members.

(c)

MSC members are expected to work with one another with the utmost respect, clarity, and honesty. No one MSC member should take actions on behalf of the MSC against the consensus of the group or to undermine an agreed-upon action or agenda.

(d)

Contribute to end-of-year documents to be submitted by each member to the Student Affairs team and OGE before the start of the following academic year.
