Rewriting Your Budget for Online Study

Many online students find that part of their allocation from budget items such as housing, food, transportation, books and supplies effectively helps cover higher at-home costs, such as utilities, internet, and a basic workspace.

View cost of attendance budget.

If you are completing your master’s online, your cost of attendance still includes tuition, fees, and living expenses. The living expense budget is designed to accommodate both residential and remote programs. Students are free to exercise flexibility within the budget to align with personal preferences.

For many online master’s students, traditional costs go down, while at-home costs can increase. The current living expense budget can be rebalanced to fit an online student’s needs.

You may spend less on:

• Public transit and ride shares

• Eating on campus

• Living on campus or near campus

• Ability to waive the University Health Services (UHS Fee)

You may spend more on:

• High speed internet

• Electricity/heat from being home

• A home workspace (desk/chair)
