HEALTHY LIVING TAKE A DEEP BREATH an excerpt from The Huffington Post
Focusing on your own breathing can have a significant impact on your well-being and stress levels, awakening your mind and body, while also lowering blood pressure and reducing anxiety.
Here are 7 big health reasons to take a deep breath...
1. STIMULATE BRAIN GROWTH: When controlled
5. REDUCE TESTING ANXIETY: A 2007 study in
2. IMPROVE HEART RATE VARIABILITY: Low heart
6. LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE: Taking slow deep
breathing is used during meditation it can actually increase the size of the brain. Meditation that involves focusing one’s attention on the breath has the ability to increase cortical thickness, according to a 2005 Harvard study.
rate variability (the interval of time between heart beats) has been associated with a greater risk of heart attacks. A 2012 study found that non- yogic deep breathing practices can improve heart rate variability in healthy test subjects.
3. LOWER STRESS LEVELS: If your breathing is
shallow, your body is probably in a fight or flight mode reacting to stress. Taking a minute or two to sit quietly and focus on your breathing, helps the body achieve a state of calm and relaxation.
4. ALLEVIATE ANXIETY & NEGATIVE EMOTIONS:
Focusing on breathing can help to alleviate anxiety, symptoms of depression and other negative emotions. Australian researchers found that deep breathing for 30 minutes before a performance effectively reduced musician’s performance anxiety.
the Journal of Teaching and Learning in Medicine found that students who practiced deep-breathing meditation before an exam reported perceiving less anxiety, self-doubt, and concentration loss than the students who did not practice deep breathing.
breaths for just a few minutes a day could help to lower your blood pressure. Dr. David Anderson of the Nation Institute of Health says that while researchers have observed that slow deep breaths can help to relax and temporarily dilate blood vessels, they don’t yet know precisely why deep breathing has the capacity to cause a lasting drop in blood pressure.
7. ALTER GENE EXPRESSION: A recent study found that mind-body practices like yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercises can trigger the body’s relaxation response (a physiological state of deep relaxation that alters the way it responds to stress). This state can counter the negative effects of stress for people with health conditions like anxiety and hypertension, by actually altering the expression of genes in the immune system.
There are many apps available to help guide you with breathing exercises and or meditation. Check out one of these (Take a Deep Breath, Inspired Mind, Wim Hoff)

Congratulations to Shane Jones and his guest Jacob Baker for winning the 2020 Men’s Member Guest. What a great event and a great finish right before the torrential downpour! There were a lot of tight battles within the flights and the flight winners went into a shootout. Mr. Baker hit to a tight pin on #9 to 4 feet and Mr. Jones sank the putt to give them the shootout win! We had perfect weather and a fantastic golf course to host the event. Please continue to exhibit proper etiquette in repairing all ball marks properly, sanding lots of divots along the way, and smoothing bunkers throughout the day. Also, remember to follow all cart rules, directional ropes & signage reminders throughout your round. Thank you in advance for your assistance! Please note that even the driving range has a no denim policy. Golf attire is required to play and practice at the facility.

GOLF NEWS PGA Junior League is well underway and BridgeMill has two teams this year. BridgeMill 1 has won one match and lost two while BridgeMill 2 has won both events they have played in. This is a great way to introduce juniors to the team competitive side of golf. Our juniors all seem to love the scramble format and playing other golf courses. For more information to get involved in 2021 please contact Georgia Golf Performance or go to pgajrleague.com.
The Member/Member is scheduled for August 8-9th. It will be an 8 double tee start first day and a shotgun the second day. Golf members - grab your partner and get signed up in the pro shop. There is an MGA Shootout is August 22nd. Be sure and sign up for that event. It is truly a can’t miss fun event. Be on the lookout for the Couples Golf Events this summer. Upcoming events are Friday, August 14th and September 4th. Call the golf shop for more information and to be added to our Evite list for the fabulous and fun couples golf events. Ladies looking to get into golf or improve your game? There will be a Fall session of the ladies’ clinics. Contact Denise Killeen to find out more about the ladies’ golf programs or go to georgiagolfperformance.com and search under adult programs to find what best fits your needs. Be looking for information on the soon-to-happen return of Tipsy Tee times for ladies' clinics starting this fall which includes appetizers and beer or wine before we send you out to play.
Looking for some clubs? We have Titleist and Mizuno Demos, and a number of options at the Academy for our members’ use. Demoing is a great way to try clubs and see if they are a good fit before buying. Talk to the pro shop staff about using some of these items.
New in the shop are the fall lineups from Footjoy, Nike, and Donald Ross. Be it men’s and women’s fashion items, shoes, or headwear - the BridgeMill Pro Shop is a must come and see venue.

This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship.
