Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is recognised internationally as a worldclass institution that represents Hong Kong’s unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forwardthinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence.
Comprised of 50 dancers from all over the globe – Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and other parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America, HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally with celebrated re-stagings of the classics, neoclassical masterworks by George Balanchine and others and original ballets created for HKB and about Hong Kong. Additionally, HKB performs works by its Artistic Director Septime Webre and some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylian, Nacho Duato and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as innovative new works by its Choreographer-in-Residence, Hu Song Wei Ricky, and numerous emerging Hong Kong choreographers.
HKB stands out as a dynamic Hong Kong cultural ambassador, sharing its unique repertoire and style with audiences in Europe, North America, Mainland China and Asia. With over 50 international tours since its founding, HKB performed or presented immersive works in Macau, Beijing, Singapore, Venice, New York, London, Seoul and Shanghai in the last two years.
In 2024, Septime Webre’s ‘The Nutcracker – A Hong Kong Adventure’ and its community outreach activities won the Star of Outstanding Award at UNESCO’s Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases.
HKB maintains the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet, a professionallyoriented ballet school, as well as a full schedule of award-winning community programmes and crossover collaborations throughout Hong Kong to ensure ballet is accessible to all. HKB has also produced engaging original videos and dance films that have collectively garnered over 10 million views online, connecting with ballet lovers worldwide.

Additionally, Hong Kong’s bold creativity and global influence has been evident in its flashy disco culture, riveting kung fu cinema and flashy neon lights that captures a city alive with rhythm, colour and optimism. These eclectic elements together all simmer toward something memorable and meaningful in Hong Kong Ballet’s opulent 2026/27 Season ‘Hong Kong Bling’, which brings together bold flavours and radiant Hong Kong culture inspired by the city’s glamorous age of movement and reinvention. First, I am very excited about the thrilling encore of an awardwinning ballet and two powerful world premieres that explore the human experience: Annabelle Lopez-Ochoa’s vivacious Coco Chanel: the Life of a Fashion Icon, which delves into the complex life of an extraordinary woman who launched a global empire and redefined the fashion world, HKB Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky and Mai Jingwen’s inspiring Dunhuang: In Search of Light about the search for enlightenment at a bustling Silk Road epicenter a thousand years ago and my action-packed Bruce Lee: Hong Kong Legend, which celebrates Hong Kong’s visionary international star who inspired generations worldwide with his marital arts prowess and deep philosophy.
For fans of the classics, Henderson Land Proudly Presents The Nutcracker: A Hong Kong Adventure with its timeless Christmas Eve adventure and colourful characters and Le Corsaire: The Pirate Hunter!’s swashbuckling tale of pirates bursting with virtuoso dancing return to delight audiences of all ages. Younger fans will enjoy a fun family day at Summer Fling to meet our fabulous dancers during a studio show as they perform lively dances from the HKB repertoire. I also invite you to experience the longing of forbidden young love as we travel to Chengdu and Beijing with our acclaimed Romeo + Juliet, set in 1960s Hong Kong, which has made an incredible international impact in just a few years.
As we continue to engage more with the local community, I am very proud of Hong Kong Academy of Ballet’s growth and the expansion of popular programmes like ‘Dancing to Hong Kong’s Heartbeat’ and ‘Silver Ballet’ camps and classes for seniors. This holiday season, as the lights dim, snowflakes swirl, sugarplums prance and Tchaikovsky’s sumptuous score soars, a young girl enters a whole new world that is as unique as it is magical. In order to defeat the sinister Rat King, Clara and the Nutcracker Prince embark on a fantastical Hong Kong adventure filled with local landmarks and traditions and even board a Star Ferry that takes them from winter into spring!

An epic ballet with pirates, passion and peril!
Brimming with feisty virtuoso ballet featuring HKB’s artists, the popular award-winning Le Corsaire returns with its swashbuckling tale of a dashing pirate’s love for a beautiful harem girl. Captive maidens, rich pashas, suspenseful abductions and stunning fantasy garden all culminate in an unexpected shipwreck that’s one of the most breathtaking spectacles in all of ballet.
Based on The Corsaire by Lord Byron and choreographed by celebrated former Boston Ballet Artistic Director Anna-Marie Holmes, this high-seas adventure is filled with adventure, comedy and romance from its colourful cast of characters and will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
At the 2018 Hong Kong Dance Awards, Le Corsaire won Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer, Outstanding Ensemble Performance, Outstanding Large Venue Production and Outstanding Set and Costume Design.

The most influential martial artist of all time and a favourite son of Hong Kong, Bruce Lee captured hearts and minds worldwide through his movies, philosophy and life. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of HKSAR’s establishment, his epic story is now a world premiere ballet. Bruce Lee: Hong Kong Legend is created by the dream team of HKB Artistic Director and choreographer Septime Webre, Tony, Grammy and Obie award-winning librettist David Henry Hwang, Academy Award-winning set and costume designer Tim Yip, the World Wushu champion and veteran action director Jaden He, renowned composer Ng Cheuk Yin and firebrand video designer Dan Wong. This groundbreaking event will bring together a full classical orchestra, traditional Chinese instruments and contemporary pop in a rich, dynamic score.
At the moment of his untimely passing, Bruce Lee relives the events of his life as well as his quest for growth and spiritual enlightenment. Starting with his troubled childhood in Hong Kong, Lee was driven to question and reinvent as a true original thinker. Among many achievements, he revolutionised martial arts and world cinema, inventing his own style of fighting and becoming a new movie icon which the West had never known before: the Asian male hero. Through his meteoric rise to fame, unparalleled charisma and deep philosophical writings, Lee broke through barriers and shattered glass ceilings. Today, decades later, his influence and legend continue to grow. Much more than simply a martial artist or movie star, Lee was a creative visionary who popularised Asia in the world, becoming the first massculture symbol of a revitalised and newly rising China.
Experience the thrill of first love and the heartbreak of warring triad families! Shakespeare’s powerful tale of starcrossed lovers has enthralled audiences for generations and is thoughtfully reimagined in Septime Webre’s acclaimed Romeo + Juliet set in 1960s Hong Kong. Juliet’s father is an unrelenting Shanghainese tycoon who is determined to marry his only daughter off to a wealthy gweilo, unaware that Juliet has already fallen in love with his greatest enemy’s only son. This epic love story captivates with vivid dancing, complex drama, sumptuous cheongsams and iconic scenes from the tragic tale.
Webre’s original choreography seamlessly incorporates traditional Hong Kong-style kung fu into intense street battles with visually authentic sets inspired by Hong Kong’s retro cityscape. Accompanied by Prokofiev’s dramatic score, Romeo + Juliet is especially relevant for contemporary audiences as it fuses dance and drama against a backdrop of a world in flux.

Awakened by a kiss
The Hong Kong Academy of Ballet’s annual year-end performance of The Sleeping Beauty in May 2027 brings together dedicated students to transform their classroom learning into a full-length narrative ballet, highlighting and nurturing their technical skills and artistic development.
The story transports the audience to a magical world where a wicked curse clashes with a protective vow. At Princess Aurora's christening, the fairies gather to offer their blessings. Suddenly, the evil fairy Carabosse arrives in darkness and casts a fatal curse. Fortunately, the wise Lilac Fairy steps in, altering the curse into a century-long slumber. On the princess's sixteenth birthday, the prophecy comes to pass when she accidentally pricks her finger on a hidden spindle. True to her word, the Lilac Fairy uses her magic to put the entire kingdom into a safe sleep. One hundred years later, Prince Désiré journeys through the enchanted forest and awakens the kingdom with true love's kiss. As the court stirs, a grand celebration begins. Students will vividly bring to life the soaring flights of the Bluebird and Princess Florine, the playful antics of the White Cat and Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood's narrow escape, and the elegant variations of the fairies.
Through the journey of rehearsals and performance, students learn to convey subtle emotion and dramatic tension through movement. This is more than just gaining stage experience; it is a journey of personal growth, discipline and teamwork. In the 2026/27 Season, the Hong Kong Academy of Ballet continues to nurture the next generation of ballet talent in a warm, professional environment.
At its Wong Chuk Hang and Happy Valley studios, the Academy provides high-quality training for students to learn a variety of disciplines from faculty, guest artists and choreographers. With exciting opportunities to perform alongside HKB dancers and an increased emphasis on performance, more aspiring dancers can showcase their artistry to audiences. A commitment to sustainability ensures that programmes contribute positively to the environment for a brighter future for everyone.
Classical Ballet Training Programme (CBTP) follows a professionally-oriented syllabus developed by Hong Kong Ballet faculty and artistic staff. The unique curriculum has a progressive structure designed to build a solid foundation in ballet technique and develop artistry in students of all ages.
The Pre-Ballet Foundation Programme (PBFP) is a platform for students to prepare for the CBTP.
Entry and placement assessments are required for Classical Ballet Training Programme students (ages 6 and above) and PreBallet Foundation students (ages 4-5). Students will have mid-term and yearend assessments each year.
The Elite Programme offers specialized coaching in variations, group repertoire, and performance mastery for talented students aiming for professional dance careers. It provides year-round technical classes, with opportunities in competitions, events and promotions.
Fun, enriching classes for adults and youth include ballet technique, fitness and a ballet masterclass series. Courses are taught by HKB artistic members and alumni. All ballet technique classes feature live piano accompaniment.
This programme provides a variety of classes to enhance dancers’ strength and enrich their dance knowledge. The intensive training allows students to gain insights into full-time professional training.
The Academy is partnering with Guangzhou Opera House to establish the ‘Greater Bay Area Ballet Incubation Centre’ to cultivate new ballet talent in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Project-based programmes will be offered throughout the year to nurture young artists and create exceptional ballet works, along with educational activities to promote ballet regionally. In this spirit, the 2026 Summer Gala will showcase captivating performances from the Incubation Centre and offer meaningful cultural exchange opportunities for ballet students and their families.
Additionally, The Royal Ballet School and Hong Kong Ballet have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to solidify their positions as key hubs for ballet exchanges and collaborations in Asia. These initiatives reflect the Academy's dedication to creating artistic connections and enriching the cultural landscape.

HKB is committed to sharing dance with people of all ages and walks of life through dynamic school workshops and community programmes. We strive to spark curiosity, nurture ballet appreciation and make it an accessible art form for everyone to enjoy.
HKB continues to reach diverse audiences through its award-winning community programmes, which range from creative workshops to cultural field trips. These inspiring activities offer meaningful encounters with dance for seniors, people with special needs, underprivileged groups and ethnic minorities. ‘Dancing to Hong Kong’s Heartbeat’ activities give participants immersive experiences with local culture through movement and shared activities throughout the city. This season, we remain focused on strengthening community connections and reaching even more people across Hong Kong and beyond.
Through a variety of impactful school initiatives, HKB introduces students to the imaginative world of dance and theatre. Programmes such as School Culture Day, School Talks and the Creative Ballet in Practice Project allow students to explore both the artistic and technical sides of a ballet production, while interactive sessions help them understand basic ballet positions, simple choreography and expressive mime in a hands-on ballet introduction. With each school visit, we hope to inspire young minds, cultivate an early interest in the arts and contribute to the growth of future arts supporters.
Silver Ballet activities continue to provide seniors with uplifting ways to stay active, expressive and connected through the arts. The popular three-day Silver Ballet Camp introduces participants to simple choreography, storytelling and hands-on accessory making in a nurturing, supportive environment. Ballet Fun Day celebrates Senior Citizen’s Day by bringing seniors, families and generations together. Other events like Silver Ballet: Dare to Dream and Silver Ballet: Dance with Joy @Community help seniors improve their flexibility, balance and mental and physical wellbeing. This season, Hong Kong Ballet is dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors by expanding these exciting programmes into more communities.
PUBLIC PROGRAMMES
Our public programmes invite participants to step behind the curtain and experience the inspiration and preparation that lead up to a HKB production. Activities like Ballet 360°, Pre-performance Workshops, Meet-the-Artist sessions, Studio Visits, Pre-performance Talks and Backstage Tours offer rare insights into the creative process. These close encounters give fans and the public meaningful interactions with the dancers, choreographers and creative teams who bring every performance to life.
At HKB, artistic excellence and sustainability go hand in hand. By prioritizing reuse, repair and mindful production, we uphold the highest creative standards while minimising our environmental footprint.
Zero-Waste Success 零廢棄成果
Across 15 productions in 2024–2025, overall waste was under 1%. Most productions achieved 100% reuse of costumes, sets and props, including larger ones like The Nutcracker and The Great Gatsby, which kept thousands of kilograms of sets out of landfills.
When new items are required, we design them for long-term durability and adaptability. We now have storage containers to preserve these high-quality materials for future shows, exhibitions and community programmes.
In creating large-scale works, we are committed to leading the arts and cultural sector towards a greener future and protecting the planet without compromising creativity.
