When Wong Ka-kui wrote ‘Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies’, he spoke of wishing to become a bird that never ceases its flight in pursuit of its dreams. It calls to mind the legless bird in Days of Being Wild —a creature that touches the ground but once in its lifetime, and that moment is its end. This bird has since become the central image of Martlet : not a single, tangible character, but the very posture of all who chase the light—ever in motion, never at rest.
Taking the music of Beyond as our emotional thread, we move through stillness, indignation, tenderness and bewilderment in gathering layers until at last we arrive at the spacious clarity of ‘Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies’. It is the complete inward journey one undertakes in the act of running towards what one loves. The choreography draws upon the spirit of rock, grounded in a palette of red, white and black, and infused with the grassroots resilience of Hong Kong—so that the emotion carries not only force, but warmth.
This is a telling of devotion, of struggle and of carrying on. A dance for every soul still in flight.
黃家駒寫〈海闊天空〉時，說想做一隻為夢想不停飛的 鳥。這讓我想起《阿飛正傳》裡的無腳鳥──一生只有 一次落地，那便是終章。這隻鳥，成為了《無腳鳥》的意 象。它不是一個具體的人物，而是每個追光者在路上、 不停歇的姿態。
我們以 Beyond 的音樂為情緒線索，從寧靜、憤懣、柔情 到困惑，層層遞進，最後抵達〈海闊天空〉的豁達。那是 人在奔赴熱愛時，內心的完整旅程。舞蹈融合搖滾精神， 以紅、白、黑為底色，注入香港本土的草根韌性，讓情緒 不僅有力，也有溫度。
這是一場關於執著、掙扎與繼續的訴說。跳給每一個， 還在飛翔的人。

Depeche Mode’s music has been a profound source of inspiration for me, igniting a deep emotional connection that transcends time. As a dancer and choreographer, I found myself drawn to their powerful and evocative lyrics, which resonated with my teenage references and experiences. The raw, emotional themes in their songs, often exploring the complexities of human relationships and the human condition, struck a chord with me.
The band’s unique blend of dark and atmospheric electronic sounds, coupled with their strong lyrics, provided the perfect backdrop for my creative vision. The sense of musicality in their compositions seamlessly intertwined with my dance style, allowing me to craft a ballet that was both visually and emotionally captivating.
My new ballet for the Hong Kong Ballet became a testament to the transformative power of music and dance, where Depeche Mode's music served as the emotional compass guiding the movements and expressions on stage. The result was a performance that not only paid homage to my teenage references but also introduced this iconic music to a new audience, creating a powerful and unforgettable experience for both dancers and spectators alike.
Depeche Mode 的音樂蘊含一種超越時間、深入心坎 的情感連繫，一直為我帶來極大啟發。樂團的作品探討 人各種複雜的關係和狀態，情感粗獷又動人，深深打動 我心。充滿力量和想像空間的歌詞，與我青少年時期的 種種經歷及事物產生共鳴，迷倒身為舞者及編舞的我。
樂團氛圍獨特的暗黑電音風格，加上令人印象深刻的歌 詞，為我提供完美的創作背景。他們的樂曲有一種獨特 的樂感，與我的舞蹈風格融合得天衣無縫，讓我創作出 一部在視覺和情感上都引人入勝的芭蕾。

I often choose pop music for my choreography because I’m drawn to working with music that feels ‘of my time’. While it may seem more accessible, pop can present unique challenges; its repetitive structures offer fewer obvious cues than traditional symphonic scores, which often provide a clearer roadmap for movement.
Mercury Half-Life is set to the music of Queen. The title references the scientific concept of ‘half-life’, where a substance gradually diminishes yet never fully disappears—there is always a trace remaining. This idea resonates deeply with the legacy of Freddie Mercury, whose life was cut tragically short, yet whose artistry continues to endure and influence generations.
Ultimately, the work reflects on how impact— whether monumental or seemingly small—extends far beyond its origin, leaving lasting imprints in ways we may never fully perceive.
我通常選擇流行音樂為自己編舞，因為我會被那些讓自 己感到「屬於我的時代」的音樂驅動創作。流行音樂看 似更平易近人，但蘊含獨特挑戰：它結構重複，比古典 交響樂曲提供較少明確提示，因而不如後者般常能為 動作提供較清晰脈絡。
《Mercury Half-Life》以搖滾樂隊 Queen 的音樂融入舞 蹈。作品名稱借用了科學概念「半衰期」，指物質逐漸衰 減，卻永不會完全消失——總遺留一絲痕跡。此意象與樂 隊靈魂人物 Freddie Mercury 所遺下的寶藏不謀而合： 他不幸英年早逝，但他的藝術卻歷久彌新，影響多代人。
最終，這部作品所反思的，是「影響」如何延伸——無論 宏大或看似微小——皆遠超越其根源，向外擴張，以我 們無法全面察覺的方式，留下永不磨滅的印記。

Formed in 1983, Beyond began as an underground band before breaking into Hong Kong’s mainstream music scene in 1987. They rose to prominence with enduring hits such as ‘Great Land’, ‘Truly Love You’, ‘Glorious Years’ and ‘Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies’. Widely regarded as one of the most influential bands among Chinese people, their fanbase extends across China, Asia and beyond. Their best-known line-up featured Wong Ka Kui (vocals, guitar), Paul Wong (guitar), Wong Ka Keung (bass) and Yip Sai Wing (drums). Known for their commitment to original music, Beyond expressed ideals, love and social concern and earned numerous major awards.
1983 年成立，原為地下樂隊，於 1987 年開始進軍香港主流樂壇， 憑藉〈大地〉、〈真的愛你〉、〈光輝 歲月〉、〈海闊天空〉等多首膾炙人 口的經典歌曲而成為香港殿堂級搖 滾樂隊，香港以外，歌迷遍布中國、 亞洲，以至其他地區，被視為華語樂 壇最具影響力的樂隊之一。樂隊曾以 不同成員組合演出，而由黃家駒（主 音、結他）、黃貫中（結他）、黃家強 （低音結他）、葉世榮（鼓）組成的 四人陣容最為人所熟悉。Beyond 音樂堅持原創，透過樂曲表達理想、 愛與社會關懷，獲獎無數。

Hu Song Wei Ricky joined HKB in 2008, and was appointed Choreographer-in-Residence in 2019. His HKB commissions The Rite of Spring (2019) and The Last Song (2022) have earned him Outstanding Choreography at the Hong Kong Dance Awards. Other choreographic works include Notturno, Carmen, Bolero, Twins, White Lies, Demons and When u see. Hu co-choreographed The Butterfly Lovers with Mai Jingwen and was awarded Outstanding Choreography at the 26th Hong Kong Dance Awards. The duo has also co-choreographed Everlasting Flower for the College of Dance at Shanghai Theatre Academy, Yi Yi for HKAPA, contemporary dance work Into the Blue, and Love Bridge, commissioned work from Suzhou Ballet. He received the Award for Young Artist in Dance at the 2012 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards.

A recipient of National Outstanding Choreography Awards by the Ministry of Education of China, Mai Jingwen has choreographed notable works including The Wall (Shanghai Opera House), Xi Yuan (Liaoning Ballet), Memory (Liaoning Song and Dance Troupe), Bolero (Shanghai Singing and Dancing Troupe), Yi Yi (HKAPA), Everlasting Flower (Shanghai Theatre Academy), look up (National University of Singapore) and Blood Bird (Korean Arts Festival). She has also garnered First Prize at the National Arts Exhibition. She co-choreographed The Butterfly Lovers with Hu Song Wei Ricky in 2024 and was awarded Outstanding Choreography at the 26th Hong Kong Dance Awards. In 2025, the duo choreographed Love Bridge, a newly commissioned work from Suzhou Ballet.
麥靜雯曾獲中國教育部頒發全國 優秀編導獎，她的作品包括：上 海歌舞劇院《牆》、遼寧芭蕾舞團 《惜緣》、遼寧歌舞團《 Memory》、 上海歌舞團《波萊羅舞曲》、演藝 學院《一一》、上海戲劇學院《永生 花》、新加坡國立大學《 look up》、 韓國藝術節《血鳥》等。她也是全國 藝術展覽一等獎得主。2024 年與胡 頌威攜手創作芭蕾舞劇《梁山伯與 祝英台》，於第26屆香港舞蹈年獎獲 得最傑出編舞獎；2025 年二人再度 合作，獲蘇州芭蕾舞團委約創作全 新舞劇《鵲之橋》。

Hong Kong–born designer Robert Wun was discovered by Joyce Boutique after presenting his graduate collection at the London College of Fashion in 2012. He launched his London-based label in 2014, focusing on custom-order collections defined by sculptural tailoring and an innovative approach to form and technique. A recipient of the 2022 ANDAM Fashion Awards Special Prize, Wun has been recognised as one of fashion’s most influential figures. He has dressed global icons including Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Adele, Cardi B, and Cate Blanchett, and has collaborated with The Royal Ballet, The Hunger Games film franchise, and acclaimed director Wong Kar-wai.

Bert Wong won Best Scenography Award at the 7th Chinese Theatre Awards and a nomination for Best Lighting Design at the 32nd Hong Kong Drama Awards for Man of La Mancha in 2024. His works have received multiple further nominations for Best Lighting Design at the Hong Kong Drama Awards, including Frankenstein: Relive, A Tale of the Southern Sky, and The Woman in Kenzo (2022) and The Miracles of The Namiya General Store (2019). His work on Reveries of the Red Chamber was also shortlisted for Best Lighting Design at the 2017 Hong Kong Dance Awards. 黃宇恒於 2024 年憑《唐吉訶德》 贏得第七屆華語戲劇盛典「最佳舞 美」，以及獲第 32 屆香港舞台劇獎 最佳燈光設計提名。他的作品亦多 次獲香港舞台劇奬提名最佳燈光設 計，包括：《科學怪人．重生》、《一水 南天》、《穿Kenzo 的女人》（ 2022）； 《解憂雜貨店》（ 2019 ）；並憑《紅 樓．夢三闋》入圍香港舞蹈年獎 2017 最佳燈光設計。近期作品包括《香 港式離婚》、《海上鋼琴師》、《花樣 獠牙》、《西遊》、《極地謎情》、《異 色煙火張國榮》等。
kChung is an interdisciplinary artist, music composer and sound designer. He was graduated from the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a Bachelor's degree in Music Production. With a keen interest in exploring the relationship and possibilities between audio and visuals, he creates electronic and atmospheric music, sound design for theatre and music production for films, TV dramas and commercials. He has also exhibited his multimedia installations in Hong Kong, Prague and Tokyo.
周鍵聰為跨媒體藝術家、作曲家、 音響設計師，畢業於香港演藝學院 舞台及製作藝術學士課程，主修音 樂製作。他專注探索聲音與影像之 關係及可能，擅長創作富電子氛圍 感的音樂，並從事劇場音響設計， 以及電影、電視劇、廣告的音樂製 作。他同時致力於跨媒體藝術裝 置創作，作品曾於香港、布拉格、 東京展出。

Andonis FONIADAKIS
安東尼斯．方尼亞達基斯 Choreography 編舞
Award-winning Greek choreographer Andonis Foniadakis is acclaimed for his eccentric, futuristic style. A former dancer with Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Lyon Opera Ballet and Saburo Teshigawara/ KARAS, he has performed works by renowned choreographers like William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Ohad Naharin and Nacho Duato and served as Greek National Ballet’s Artistic Director (2016-17). In 2024, he created Strangelove for HKB, Almyra for Gauthier Dance and Bonds for Augsburg Ballet. Recent works include the premiere of Death and the Maiden for Tanz Kassel and Ikarus for Hannover Ballet. He received the Danza & Danza Award for Best Choreographer in 2012 and ‘#1 Choreographer of the Year’ by Germany’s Tanznetz Critics’ Survey for 2024/25.

He has collaborated with leading contemporary dance and opera productions worldwide, and his long-standing partnership with choreographer Andonis Foniadakis spans prestigious companies like Martha Graham Dance Company, Maurice Béjart Ballet, Geneva Ballet, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Rambert Dance, Gauthier Dance Stuttgart, Staatsballett Hannover, Zurich Ballet, Florence Opera and TanzKassel. Defined by innovation and functionality, his work is instantly recognisable for its body-conscious aesthetic. Strangelove is his second collaboration with HKB.

Based in Alsace, France, Julien Tarride is a French composer and multidisciplinary artist known for his work in contemporary dance. As a key collaborator of choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, he has been creating immersive, high-impact scores for over 20 years, combining original composition, sound design, and spatial audio. Tarride’s musical language blends organic textures with precise contemporary production, always in close dialogue with movement and dramaturgy. He collaborates with leading international choreographers and companies, and his works are performed on major stages worldwide. His creations are distinguished by their intensity, clarity, and strong physical energy.

A graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and Queensland University of Technology, Mak Kwok Fai worked as a HKAPA Lighting Lecturer during 2000–2018. Over the years, he has collaborated on various artistic projects worldwide and designed lighting systems for shopping malls, commercial buildings and performance venues. His designs in Hong Kong Ballet’s Shenren Chang (Harmony between Gods and Men), The Rite of Spring and The Last Song were nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 2017, 2020 and 2022 Hong Kong Dance Awards, respectively. His recent works include LAUZONE (Singapore Huayi Festival) and 1367 2.1 (Zuni Icosahedron).

The legendary British rock band Queen was formed in London in 1971 by Freddie Mercury (vocals/ piano), Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) and John Deacon (bass). Acclaimed for their eclectic style blending rock, opera and pop, they achieved phenomenal global success with hits such as ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are the Champions’ as well as with iconic performances, notably at Live Aid in 1985. Trey McIntyre studied at North Carolina School of the Arts and Houston Ballet Academy and was appointed Choreographic Apprentice and later Choreographic Associate at Houston Ballet before embarking on a freelance career spanning over 35 years. In addition to working in film, photography and writing, he has created over 125 works for companies like American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet. His accolades include multiple NEA grants, a United States Artists Fellowship and an Isadora Duncan Dance Award. In 2005, he founded Trey McIntyre Project and joined BODYTRAFFIC as Creative Partner in 2024.

She created costumes for Berkshire Opera, The Limón Dance Foundation, the Pearl Theatre, Eos Orchestra, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, BalletTech, Williamstown Theatre Festival, the Center for Contemporary Opera and The Flea Theatre, among others. She collaborated with directors Daniel Fish, Sam Helfrich, Peter Kazaras, Anne Kauffman and Elizabeth Swados and with choreographers Jonathan Fredrickson and Neta Pulvermacher. She taught at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. She was nominated for a Henry Hewes award and held degrees from Brown University and the Tisch School of the Arts.

His critically acclaimed works have appeared in venues across the US, Europe and Asia, ranging from opera houses and amphitheaters to circus tents and hay barns. Since 2000, Mazzola has collaborated with renowned choreographers across the US and Europe.

楊我華
Sound Design 音響設計
Having worked on over 100 theatre productions, esteemed sound designer Anthony Yeung has won the Best Sound Design Award at the 12th Hong Kong Drama Awards (2003) and the 19th Hong Kong Dance Awards (2017). He joined the prestigious Avon Studios in 1996, where he transitioned from Studio Engineer to Mastering Engineer. He established his own mastering studio in 2008, and has mastered over 1,000 music titles across a wide range of genres. A certified Dolby Sound Consultant, he has been teaching at numerous institutions since 2003, and most recently the Department of Music at the University of Hong Kong.

香港芭蕾舞團藝術總監
Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US for six years. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation standing at the intersection of creativity and social impact.
Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet ushered in a period of unprecedented growth in the quality and breadth of its work-both onstage and in its engagement and educational initiatives, with its annual budget growing over 500% during that time. In Hong Kong, Webre recently staged a pair of new productions for HKB: a Romeo+ Juliet set in the early 1960’s Hong Kong, and The Nutcracker set in Hong Kong in the early 20th century. In addition, he has staged a number of productions for HKB, including new productions of Giselle , ALICE (in wonderland) , Sam and Her Amazing Book of Dinosaurs , The Great Gatsby , The Wizard of Oz , Cinderella and Peter Pan
As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.

Our creative, athletic dancers have a demanding schedule of up to eight hours of intense classes and rehearsals each day. The Dancers’ Sponsorship Fund develops and supports their talent, dedication and drive through regular physiotherapy sessions, new pointe shoes and artistic exchanges to further their education and training. Your participation will ensure the professional and artistic growth of Hong Kong Ballet’s dancers and tomorrow’s rising stars.

‘BALLET × FITNESS’ WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES
港芭 × PURE FITNESS：「芭蕾 × 健身」工作坊及課堂
HKB and PURE Fitness unite through the ‘You Are More Than You Know’ partnership to present Everyday Grace & Strength, a ballet-inspired Pointe Fit workshop. Led by HKB dancers, this 1.5 hour session introduces classical ballet techniques adapted for everyday movement to build strength, posture, and body awareness. Suitable for all fitness levels.
In addition, regular ballet classes and ‘ballet x pilates’ classes led by PURE teachers and HKB dancers/teachers will launch soon.
港芭蕾舞團與 PURE Fitness 透過「You Are More Than You Know 」合作計劃，攜手 呈獻 Everyday Grace & Strength ——一個以芭蕾為靈感的健身工作坊。由港芭舞者 親自帶領，這個 1.5 小時的課程會介紹古典芭蕾技巧，並教授如何把芭蕾訓練轉化為日 常運動，幫助提升力量、姿態及身體覺知。適合不同健身程度人士參加。
