CHOREOGRAPHERS’ NOTES 編舞的話
‘Through the artistic language of Dunhuang, we seek to find our truest selves.’ Dunhuang: In Search of Light is not about religion; it is about being human. Using the aesthetics of Dunhuang as its vehicle and drawing inspiration from Hermann Hesse’s novel Siddhartha, the ballet tells a journey of looking back. At the very moment Siddhartha is about to reach fulfilment, he pauses. He suddenly realises that, if he cannot confront everything in his past, fulfilment will remain incomplete. Guided by a ferryman, he journeys back through time and relives his life: its splendour and desires as well as loss and separation. Each struggle brings him closer to understanding himself. Ultimately, he learns to make peace with everything, accept it all and embrace who he truly is. What makes this work especially compelling is that Siddhartha is not a flawless hero. Like all of us, he experiences regret, pain and moments of losing his way. Through every stumble, he comes to know himself anew. His journey of reflection is his own, but it also mirrors the life experiences of each of us. The Feitian (Flying Apsaras), Nine-Coloured Deer, Four Deities and Water-Moon Guanyin in the ballet are not religious symbols; rather, they are reflections and metaphors for Siddhartha’s inner world. The Nine-Coloured Deer represents the goodness and innocence that have never been extinguished, the Feitian embody freedom and harmony, the Water-Moon Guanyin represents clarity and enlightenment and the Four Deities reflect inner struggle and emotional turbulence. Throughout the creative process, we kept returning to one question: how can Dunhuang culture and ballet truly come together rather than simply appearing side by side? Chinese elements and Western ballet may seem very different, yet both carry a pursuit of beauty and the spiritual realm. We hoped to find a natural connection between them, allowing them to enter into a dialogue on stage. To do so, we travelled to study Dunhuang dance and examined the forms, lines and atmosphere in the murals. The renowned ‘three bends’ of the body in Dunhuang dance contrasts sharply with classical ballet’s upright, extended physical aesthetic. Since the murals do not prescribe a fixed dance form, we are not reproducing traditional Dunhuang dance. Instead, we begin with the murals’ imagery and reinterpret them through our own understanding, seeking new modes of expression that can merge naturally with ballet. Ultimately, this work is not about how a person becomes a Buddha. It is about a person who, having loved, suffered and lost, still chooses to embrace an imperfect self. When we learn to accept life’s imperfections, perhaps we can find a light of our own deep within. If an audience member can say to themselves when leaving the theatre, ‘Perhaps I can be a little kinder to myself’, that would be the response we most hoped for. —— HU Song Wei Ricky 胡頌威、MAI Jingwen 麥靜雯

《敦 煌：溯 光 行》不是 關 於 宗 教，而 是 關 於 人。它 以 敦 煌 的 美 學 為 載 體，從 赫 塞 的《流浪者之歌》汲取靈感，講的是一趟 「回望的旅程」。 男主 角悉 達多在即將圓滿的最後 一刻停 了下來。他突然意識到，如果不能去面對 自己 過 去 的 一 切，那 這 份 圓 滿 是 有 遺 憾 的。於是在船夫的引領下，他逆著時間往 回 走，重 新 經 歷 了自己 的 一 生—— 有 繁 華、欲望，也有失去與別離。每一次掙扎， 都讓他更靠近自己。最終，他學會了與一 切和解，接納了所有，擁抱了自己。
這部劇最吸引人的地方，是主角悉達多並 非一位完美無瑕的英雄。他和我們每一個 人一樣，會遺憾、會受傷、會迷失方向，也 會在一次次跌撞之中重新認識自己。他的 回望旅程既屬於自己，也映照著每個人的 生命經驗。 劇中的飛天、九色鹿、四神，以及水月觀音 等形象，並非宗教符號，而是主角內心世 界的投射與隱喻。九色鹿象徵從未泯滅的 善良與純真；飛天象徵自由與祥和；水月 觀音代表通透與覺悟；四神則映照內心的 掙扎與波動。 在創作過程中，我們始終思考一個問題： 如何讓敦煌文化與芭蕾舞真正融合，而不 只是形式上的結合。中國元素與西方芭蕾 看似截然不同，卻同樣承載著對美與精神 世界的追求。我們希望尋找兩者之間自然 的連結，讓它們在舞台上彼此對話。
為 此，我 們 前 往 學 習 敦 煌 舞 蹈，研 究 壁 畫中的造型、線條與意境。敦煌舞著名的 「三道彎」身韻，與芭蕾講 求挺拔、延伸 的身體美學形成鮮明對比。這些壁畫本身 並沒有既定的舞蹈形式，因此我們並非複 製傳統敦煌舞，而是從壁畫意象出發，透 過自身的理解進行再創作，尋找能與芭蕾 語彙相融的新表達方式。
歸根結底，這部作品並非描寫一個人如何 成佛，而是希望觀眾看到一個人在經歷愛 過、痛過、失去過之後，依然願意擁抱那 個不完美的自己。當我們學會接納生命中 的缺憾，也許便能在內心深處，看見屬於 自己的光。 如 果 觀 眾 走 出 劇 場 時，能 對自己 說一 句 「也許我可以放過自己了」 ，那就是我們最 想得到的回應。

Siddhartha The seeker who breaks the cycle. The soul of the ballet, he undergoes a complete transformation from downfall to awakening to ultimate enlightenment.

The Son A mirror of cause and effect. His rebellion is the result of Siddhartha’s past choices, reflecting Siddhartha’s need for control and the shadows within his heart.
The Nine-Coloured Deer The original, pure nature of the self. It represents the undying goodness and divinity within Siddhartha, a lighthouse whenever he loses his way.
The Four Gods of Wind, Rain, Thunder and Lightning The wild dance of inner demons. The gods embody the explosion of Siddhartha’s inner conflicts, contradictions and repressed emotions.
Water-Moon Guanyin The wisdom within. She is the final manifestation of Siddhartha’s inner enlightenment, guiding him to accept impermanence and embrace completeness.

PROLOGUE: LOOKING BACK 序幕：回望
SCENE I: THE FINAL QUESTION 第 一 場：最 後 一 問
Siddhartha gazes into the distance, absorbed in an internal dialogue. On the verge of attaining completeness, he looks back upon his life and wonders whether a life without acceptance would leave something unresolved. Amid memories of the past, he reaches out his hand.
悉達多凝望高處，那是他與自己的對話。站在圓滿 的門檻上，他回望一生——若未曾接納一切，這份 圓滿是否仍有遺憾？在追憶中他向過往伸出手。
SCENE II: THE LIGHT OF LONGING 第二 場：嚮 往 之 光
The Feitian dance brings Siddhartha the bliss he longs for. Surrounded by a sense of completeness, he feels a desire to return to the past and make his life complete.
飛 天群 舞 流 轉，那是 悉 達多 嚮往 的美 好與 幸 福。 在 圓 滿 的 氛 圍 中，他 渴 望 回 到 過 去，讓 人 生 得以 完整。
SCENE III: THE INVITATION OF TIME 第三 場：時 間 的 邀 約
The Ferryman of Time answers Siddhartha’s call and leads him on a journey through his past. As Siddhartha stands still, time begins to turn backwards, and fragments of memory unfold before him.
時 間 船 夫 回 應 悉 達多的 呼 喚，前 來引領 他 踏上回 望 的 旅 程。舞 台 流 轉，時 光 倒 帶，悉 達 多 佇 立 原 地，過往在眼前重現。

ACT I: DESCENT 第一幕：沉淪
SCENE I: ENCOUNTER. THE FLOURISHING MARKET 第 一 場：相 遇．繁 華 市 集
In an ancient city along the bustling Silk Road, Siddhartha is overwhelmed by a world of sensual intoxication. Shock gradually gives way to fascination, and fascination turns into longing.
悉 達多身處 繁 華 的 絲 綢 之 路古 城，面對 衝 擊感 官 的人間煙火，從震驚中生出迷戀與渴望。
SCENE II: TEMPTATION. THE THREE ILLUSIONS 第二 場：誘 惑．三 重 幻 境
The dances of Wind, Power and Desire unfold in succession, embodying the worldly pleasure in which Siddhartha indulges. Mara enters, radiating an irresistible allure. Overtaken by desire, Siddhartha dissolves into a whirl of bodies and light until he loses himself completely.
誘惑層層湧來—風之舞、權力之舞、慾望之舞。瑪 拉 以 妖 媚 姿 態 登場，悉 達 多被 慾 望 吞 噬，在 光 影 與肉體糾纏中迷失自我。
SCENE III: AWAKENING. AFTER THE FEAST 第三 場：獨 醒．盛 宴 之 後
The revelry comes to an abrupt end, leaving Siddhartha suspended at the height of his excitement. Torn between pleasure and the awareness of his own attachment, he is overcome by a profound emptiness.
狂 歡 戛 然 而 止。悉 達 多 停留 在 興 奮 的 頂 點，他留 戀、享受，卻又自知不該沉溺，於是獨自陷入 巨大 的空虛中。
SCENE IV: GUIDANCE. THE DEER 第 四 場：指引．鹿 現
The Nine-Coloured Deer enters and gazes calmly at Siddhartha, a symbol of the last trace of his conscience and the final ray of light within him. Siddhartha reaches out and attempts to grasp the vanishing light.
九色 鹿 悄 然 出 現，靜 靜凝 望 悉 達 多。那 是 他 內 心 僅 存 的 善良，未 被 慾 望 吞 噬 的 最 後 一 點 光。他 伸 出手，想要抓住。
SCENE V: STRUGGLE. THE WALL OF DESIRE 第五 場：掙 扎．慾 望 之 牆
Siddhartha tries to follow the Deer’s path but finds himself besieged by a wall of desire. Desperate to find the light, he struggles against his attachments and repeatedly pushes through the darkness.
悉達多欲跟隨九色鹿，卻再次被慾望之牆包圍。他 一次次的衝出黑暗，用雙手撥開纏繞的慾望，掙扎 著追求光明。
SCENE VI: DIALOGUE. THE VOICE OF THE TRUE SELF 第六 場：對 話．真 我 之 聲
Siddhartha breaks through the barrier. Repulsed by his own reflection in the lake, he desperately tries to erase the traces of desire and defilement. Exhausted, he realises that spiritual practice may be the only path towards peace of mind.
悉 達 多 衝 破 阻 礙，從 湖 水 看見自己 醜 惡 的 嘴 臉， 奮 力 洗 刷 身上 的 慾 望 與 污 濁。疲 憊 過 後，他 終 於 領悟 ——也許唯有修行，才能讓內心歸於平靜。
SCENE VII: FAREWELL. A SILENT PROMISE 第七 場：離 別．無 聲 的 諾 言
Determined to devote himself to spirituality following in the footsteps of the monks, Siddhartha bids farewell to Mara. As she watches him leave, a new life quietly takes form in her body.
悉達多決意追隨沙門修行。他前來與瑪拉告別，瑪拉 目送他離開——在她腹中，一個新生命正悄然萌芽。

ACT II: ENLIGHTENMENT 第二幕：覺悟
SCENE I: PRACTICE. THE DILEMMA OF THE MONASTERY 第 一 場：修 行．禪 院 困 局
At the monastery, Siddhartha meditates alongside other followers. As thoughts roar within him, he struggles to resist his attachments and seeks refuge from pain through spiritual practice. 悉 達多在沙門 修 行地 與 追 隨 者禪 修。他試圖對 抗 執念，以修行逃離痛苦，內心卻偶爾泛起波瀾。
SCENE II: REUNION. SONG OF THE OASIS 第二 場：重 逢．綠 洲 短 歌
At an oasis, Siddhartha reunites with Mara, who has come searching for him with their Son. Terminally ill from poisoning, Mara entrusts the boy to Siddhartha and performs her final dance in his arms. Unable to accept this stranger as his father, the Son recoils from Siddhartha. Mara dies, and Siddhartha experiences searing grief for the first time, while the Son is plunged into sorrow and anger.
瑪 拉一 路 尋 來，在 綠 洲 與 悉 達 多重 逢。她 中 毒垂 危，帶著兒子前來託付。瑪拉在悉達多懷中獻上臨 終之舞，將兒子交到他手中。兒子無法接受這個從 未謀面的父親。瑪拉悄然離世，悉達多初嘗別離之 痛，兒子悲憤交加。
SCENE III: TURMOIL. DANCE OF THE INNER DEMONS 第三 場：掙 扎．心 魔 之 舞
The Gods of Wind, Rain, Thunder and Lightning emerge from within Siddhartha, embodying his inner turmoil. Through Mara’s death and his son’s rejection, Siddhartha gains painful clarity. In his solo, he comes to understand that no spiritual practice can provide escape. He then turns away decisively and sets out to find his Son.
風雨雷電四神 從 悉 達多身體中分 化而出——那是 他內心的掙扎與起伏。因為瑪拉的離世，兒子的拒 絕，他在獨舞中清醒過來，明白修行無法讓他逃避 這一切。他毅然離開，去找兒子。
SCENE IV: FATHER AND SON. A BATTLE OF DESTINY 第 四 場：父子．宿 命 之爭
Siddhartha finally reunites with his Son, but his love is met with resentment. Seeking to assert control through parental authority, Siddhartha repeats the pattern of his own father. The Son breaks free from Siddhartha’s grasp, leaving him once again in despair.
悉 達 多深 愛 兒子，終 於 找 到 他，卻只 換 來 滿 懷 怨 恨。他 以 威嚴主導，如同當年父親待 他一樣。兒子 掙脫而去，將悉達多再次推入崩潰與絕望的深淵。
SCENE V: INSIGHT. WATER-MOON, MIRROR FLOWER 第五 場：點 化．水 月鏡 花
In a forest of withered poplars, a devastated Siddhartha finds himself bound by his own attachments. As he repeatedly moves through the poplars and struggles against himself, the Poplar Maidens’ perseverance gradually soothes him. The Water-Moon Bodhisattva appears as a reflection of Siddhartha’s newly clarified mind, and he embraces impermanence.
崩潰的悉達多闖入胡楊林，受執念所困。胡楊千 年不朽的堅韌，令他疲憊的身心逐漸沉澱。在一 次次穿行與掙扎中，他終於放下——水月觀音悄 然顯現，那是他內心變得通透之後的投射，令他 接納世間無常。
SCENE VI: RECONCILIATION. THE KISS OF TIME 第六 場：和 解．時 間 之 吻
Siddhartha encounters the Ferryman of Time once again, now in a transformed state of mind. Rather than resist or flee from time, he chooses to reconcile with it. The Ferryman of Time kisses his forehead in tribute to his awakened mind.
悉 達 多再 遇 時 間 船 夫，心 境 與 姿 態皆已 不 同。他 選擇與時間和解，不再逃 避，也不再對抗。船夫輕 吻他的額頭——那是時間對一位覺悟者的致敬。
FINALE: THE LIGHT OF ALL BEINGS 終 幕：合 一．眾 生 之 光
Golden light radiates across the stage as all the characters transform into the Dunhuang cave mural figures, and Siddhartha walks towards the Nirvana Buddha. Merging into the light, he finally attains the completeness he has sought throughout his life.
金光遍照，眾角色化作敦煌壁畫眾生相。悉達多走向 涅槃佛，融入那片光明——那是他追尋一生的圓滿。

Hu Song Wei Ricky joined HKB in 2008, and was appointed Choreographer-in-Residence in 2019. His HKB commissions The Rite of Spring (2019) and The Last Song (2022) have earned him Outstanding Choreography at the Hong Kong Dance Awards. Other choreographic works include Notturno, Carmen, Bolero, Twins, White Lies, Demons and When u see. Hu co-choreographed The Butterfly Lovers with Mai Jingwen and was awarded Outstanding Choreography at the 26th Hong Kong Dance Awards. The duo has also co-choreographed Martlet for HKB, Everlasting Flower for the College of Dance at Shanghai Theatre Academy, Yi Yi for HKAPA, contemporary dance work Into the Blue, and Love Bridge, commissioned work from Suzhou Ballet. A recipient of National Outstanding Choreography Awards by the Ministry of Education of China, Mai Jingwen has choreographed notable works including The Wall (Shanghai Opera House), Xi Yuan (Liaoning Ballet), Memory (Liaoning Song and Dance Troupe), Bolero (Shanghai Singing and Dancing Troupe), Yi Yi (HKAPA), Everlasting Flower (Shanghai Theatre Academy), look up (National University of Singapore) and Blood Bird (Korean Arts Festival). She has also garnered First Prize at the National Arts Exhibition. She co-choreographed The Butterfly Lovers with Hu Song Wei Ricky in 2024 and was awarded Outstanding Choreography at the 26th Hong Kong Dance Awards. In 2025, the duo choreographed Love Bridge, a newly commissioned work from Suzhou Ballet, followed by Martlet for HKB in 2026.
Renowned Chinese composer and music producer known for his sweeping film and orchestral scores, Tian Mi graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s Composition Department, where he later taught. His compositions span across theatre, television, popular video games like Honor of Kings and Sword of Justice and films like Creation of the Gods and Full River Red. Tian has also composed music for The Disguiser and Our Lifelong Serendipity musicals, the Beijing Winter Olympics and the CCTV Lantern Festival Gala. His notable accolades include Outstanding Music Composition at the 2025 Hong Kong Dance Awards for Hong Kong Ballet’s The Butterfly Lovers, the Wenhua Award, Five Ones Project Award and awards at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards and China National Arts Fund.

Jonathan Wong graduated from Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. For the past decade, he has been an active designer for major theatre companies in Hong Kong, including Edward Lam Dance Theatre, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre and the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Recently, his production The Impossible Trial, presented by West Kowloon Cultural District and Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, won Best Set Design at the Hong Kong Theatre Awards. Kwan is currently a HKAPA Theatre Design Senior Lecturer and a Fellow of the HEA. 黃逸君畢業於香港演藝學院，其後 赴英國皇家威爾斯音樂及戲劇學院 深造，取得碩士學位。過去十年，他 活躍於本地各大劇團，曾為非常林奕 華、香港話劇團、香港 藝 術節等設 計舞台。近 年，他 憑西九 文化區與 香港話劇團聯合呈獻的《大狀王》 舞台設計，榮獲香港舞台劇獎最佳 佈景設計。黃逸君為英國高等教育 學會會士，現任香港演藝學院舞台 設計系高級講師。

Graduated from HKAPA, Yeung Tsz Yan won her first Best Lighting Design award at the 15th Hong Kong Drama Awards with Phaedra during her studies. She went on to earn four more accolades in the same category after graduation with Iron (We Draman Group), Attempts on her Life, Marriage and Le Père (Hong Kong Repertory Theatre). Her other accolades include “Outstanding Design for Dance” (2012) and “Outstanding Lighting Design” (2015) at the Hong Kong Dance Awards for Hong Kong Dance Company’s Two Swallows — Ode to Wu Guanzhong and The Legend of Lanling, alongside “Best Lighting Designer” at the 2024 Beijing Tianqiao Musical Annual Ceremony for WestK and HKRep’s The Impossible Trial — a musical. A City University of Hong Kong School of Creative Media graduate, Dan Fong is a digital visual artist, video designer and Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts lecturer. He also directs music videos and has worked with local arts groups like Zuni Icosahedron, Windmill Grass Theatre, W Theatre, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Dance Company and Theatre du pif. 葉詠媛
A leading young conductor in Hong Kong and 3rd Prize Winner of the 2025 International Ferenc Fricsay Conducting Competition, Vivian Ip was Associate Conductor of Hong Kong Sinfonietta from 2023-2026, when she presented a series of family concerts as well as worked closely with guest artists and musicians. Ip has guest conducted at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and Musica Viva Hong Kong and was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 2016-2018, where she assisted its Music Director Jaap van Zweden as well as overseas conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach and Charles Dutoit. In 2023, Ip co-founded ANIMA Ensemble in promoting contemporary chamber operas and musical theatre works. One of Hong Kong’s flagship orchestras, Hong Kong Sinfoniet ta has brought music closer to the c o m m u n i t y, a n d a c h i eve d s i g n i f i c a nt l o c a l and international recognition for its passionate p e r form an c e s an d innovative pro gramming . Since 1999, the orchestra has collaborated with an illustrious array of international musicians and groups, including in recent years Nicolas Altstaedt, Ilya Gringolts, Martin Helmchen, Sergei Nakariakov, Krzysztof Penderecki, The Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. Hong Kong Sinfonietta is a regular guest at international arts festivals and has toured 48 cities around the world. As an avid believer of keeping music alive and contemporary, the orchestra performs year-round with about 100 performances a season, presenting not only standard orchestral repertoire but also more than 100 newly commissioned works over the years. Founded in 2018 by Ms Leonie Ki, the Hong Kong Gaudeamus Dunhuang Ensemble brings together two composers: Mr Kam Shing Hei and Mr Chu Kai Yeung, and eight musicians to revive the cultural heritage of Dunhuang. Guided by the values of “inheritance, preservation, and innovation”, we transform the artistic treasures of the grotto murals into contemporary resonance. Our performances emphasise “Sight and Sound” presentation, combining live music with animated backdrops to create an immersive experience that transports the audience to the very heart of the scene, we invite audiences to “See the Music, Hear the Murals”. Our mission is to celebrate Chinese culture through ar ts and music, inspiring audiences, fostering dialogue across borders, and nur turing future generations. With this vision, we aspire to be a global beacon of Chinese culture, uniting communities worldwide through tradition and innovation.
香港天籟敦煌樂團由紀文鳳女士於 2018 年創立， 包括兩位作曲家——甘聖希先生與朱啟揚先生，以 及 八位優 秀的中樂 演奏家，共同致 力於 復 興 敦 煌 的文化遺 產。 樂 團秉 持「傳承、保 護、創 新」的 理 念，將 敦 煌 石 窟壁 畫 與藝 術 瑰 寶化作當代 音樂 的迴響。樂團的 演出注重「視聽並重」的呈現，融合音樂與背景動 畫，營造出如臨現場的沉浸式體驗，讓觀眾「看見 音樂、聽 見壁畫 」 。 樂 團 的 使 命，是 以音 樂 與 藝 術 弘 揚 中 華 文化，啟 迪 觀 眾 心靈，促 進 跨 文化 交 流，並 悉 心 培 育未 來 新一 代。

Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is recognised internationally as a world-class institution that represents Hong Kong’s unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forward-thinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence. Comprised of 50 dancers from all over the globe – Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland and other parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and North America, HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally with celebrated re-stagings of the classics, neoclassical masterworks by George Balanchine and others and original ballets created for HKB and about Hong Kong. Additionally, HKB performs works by its Artistic Director Septime Webre and some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylian, Nacho Duato and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as innovative new works by its Choreographer-in-Residence, Hu Song Wei Ricky, and numerous emerging Hong Kong choreographers. HKB stands out as a dynamic Hong Kong cultural ambassador, sharing its unique repertoire and style with audiences in Europe, North America, Chinese Mainland and Asia. With over 50 international tours since its founding, recently HKB performed or was presented immersive works in Macau, Beijing, Venice, New York, London, Seoul, Shanghai and Chengdu. Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate. He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US for six years. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation standing at the intersection of creativity and social impact. Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet ushered in a period of unprecedented growth in the quality and breadth of its work-both onstage and in its engagement and educational initiatives, with its annual budget growing over 500% during that time. In Hong Kong, Webre recently staged a pair of new productions for HKB: a Romeo + Juliet set in the early 1960’s Hong Kong, and The Nutcracker set in Hong Kong in the early 20th century. In addition, he has staged a number of productions for HKB, including new productions of Giselle, ALICE (in wonderland), Sam and Her Amazing Book of Dinosaurs, The Great Gatsby, The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella and Peter Pan. As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham. He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.

Sharing Resources Globally 資源共享
Across 15 productions in 2024–2025, overall waste was under 1%. Most productions achieved 100% reuse of costumes, sets and props, including larger ones like The Nutcracker and The Great Gatsby, which kept thousands of kilograms of sets out of landfills.
When new items are required, we design them for long-term durability and adaptability. We now have storage containers to preserve these high-quality materials for future shows, exhibitions and community programmes.
Through creative partnerships, we share sets and costumes with local and international companies, eliminating duplications worldwide.
