二零二六年香港藝術節隆重 舉 行，謹此致賀。
今年藝術節邁進第五十四屆，約 180 場演出涵蓋 音樂、戲曲、歌劇、戲劇、舞蹈、藝術科技及 其他表演藝術創作，精彩多元，引人矚目。
藝術節在二月二十七日以西班牙國家舞劇院著 名舞劇《美麗的奧蒂羅》揭開序幕，在舞台重 現巴黎黃金時代的歌舞昇平，別出心裁。三月 二十七日藝術節閉幕以大型舞劇《牡丹亭》為 壓軸演出，呈獻導演兼編舞黎星對經典愛情劇 目的嶄新演繹。今年的音樂節目陣容強大，匯 聚各傑出鋼琴家獻技，有年輕韓國天才鋼琴家 任奫燦，也有榮獲二零二五年范．克萊本國際 大賽金獎及觀 眾 大獎的本地鋼琴家沈靖韜，實 在不容錯過。
一如既往，藝術節包羅繽紛多彩的外展及教育 活動。今年的「加料節目」着重豐富藝術愛好 者的文化體驗，加深對世界級藝術家的認識， 對於啓發更多人參與藝術活動，以至鞏固香港 作為中外文化藝術交流中心的定位，極為重要。

I am pleased to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the organisation of its 2026 season. This year’s Festival, the 54th edition, features some 180 performances, encompassing music, Chinese and Western opera, theatre, dance, arts technology and a dazzling variety of performing arts productions.
The Festival opens on 27 February with Ballet Nacional de España’s acclaimed operatic ballet La Bella Otero , recreating the glamour of Paris’ golden era on stage. The Festival concludes on 27 March with the large-scale dance theatre production DreaminThePeonyPavilion , directed and choreographed by Li Xing, injecting fresh life into the timeless love classic. This year’s music performances present a number of brilliant pianists, including young Korean piano sensation Yunchan Lim, and Hong Kong-born Aristo Sham, the gold medallist and audience award winner at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
As ever, the Festival features a diverse range of outreach and educational activities. This year’s PLUS programme focuses on a wide cultural experience for arts lovers and deeper understanding of world-class artists, contributing to promoting engagement in cultural events and consolidating Hong Kong’s positioning as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

A warm welcome to the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival. As a leading international performing arts event, the Festival continues to uphold its mission of enriching our city’s cultural life and promoting the best of the performing arts to different sectors of our community. This year, the Festival brings to Hong Kong more than 1,100 distinguished local and international artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines in over 180 performances of more than 45 programmes, as well as about 300 “PLUS”, outreach and education events.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the HKSAR Government, acting through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, for its annual subvention and matching grant. My heartfelt thanks also go out to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, our corporate sponsors, charitable foundations and donors for their generous support. Their invaluable contributions empower us to actively advance the community through the performing arts.
My genuine appreciation goes to all our internationally renowned and most talented artists for their creativity and outstanding performances on stage. 第 54 屆香港藝術節雲集眾多大師級藝術家與傑 出團隊，帶來超過 180 場的音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、 歌劇、戲曲、藝術科技與跨界創作節目，展示藝 術家的精湛造詣。
今年的其中一個主題，是對「勇氣與和平」的探 索。當全球都因為戰亂、流離、經濟下行等苦難 感到焦躁不安，藝術家以獨特的視角與語言，在 舞台上交織出對世界的回應，提醒我們抱持堅毅 與希望。
此外，今屆藝術節部分作品採用了簡約的戲劇手 法，讓我們擺脫地域與資源的限制。我們亦繼續 擁抱藝術科技，利用混合實景技術，開拓新的表 演效果。

The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival once again brings together great masters and outstanding artists, presenting more than 180 performances across music, dance, theatre, opera, Chinese opera, arts-tech and interdisciplinary creations—showcasing the exceptional craft of leading local and international talent.
One of this year’s themes is an exploration of “Courage and Peace”. At a time when the world is troubled by war, displacement, economic downturns and other hardships, artists respond from their own distinctive perspectives and in their own languages on stage, reminding us of the need to be resilient and hopeful.
Some works in this year’s Festival adopt a minimalistic theatrical approach, enabling us to transcend the constraints of geography and resources. We also continue to embrace arts-tech, using mixed-reality technologies to open up new performance possibilities.
As always, the Festival presents more than 300 outreach and education activities. Our PLUS events feature a curated series of talks, masterclasses, backstage tours and guided cultural walks. Our comprehensive education initiatives tailored for primary, secondary and tertiary students are aimed at enabling students to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the works we present.

, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and in February and March each year.
non-profit organisation. The total income target for FY2025/26 (including the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2026 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$159 million. Current Government annual baseline funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival's total income. Around 24% of the Festival’s income needs to be generated from the box office, and around 44% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 20% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations. The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 250 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas.

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced with GoetheInstitut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and TheTempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake co-commissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber coproduced with San Francisco Opera; Laila , a co-production with Finnish National Opera and Ballet, and 20,000LeaguesUndertheSea , co-produced with The Central Academy of Drama, China, and Compagnie Point Fixe.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 33 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached around 849,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meetthe-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

Ticket holders are strongly advised to arrive punctually. The HKAF reserves the right to refuse the (a) admission of latecomers (whether at the beginning of the performance or after the intermission) and (b) re-admission of audience members who leave the auditorium during the performance.
本會有權決定觀 眾（包括遲到和中途離場的觀 眾）入場和重新入場的可能性 及方式。
The HKAF also reserves the right to determine the possibility of admission and re-admission of audience members (which includes latecomers and audience members who have left the auditorium and are seeking re-admission), as well as the manner in which they are admitted.

Gonia是一支融合傳統韓國國樂與現代爵 士樂的韓國先鋒樂隊，開創了別開生面的 「K-Jazz」風格。Gonia成立於2007年， 並於2009年正式出道，其音樂巧妙糅合傳 統樂器杖鼓以及低音結他和結他的聲音， 同時融入韓國民謠唱腔，塑造出打破類型 界限的音樂。
Gonia透過結合「長短」句與爵士元素， 開創出植根韓國文化又具普世魅力的音樂 語言。其2020年專輯《張力》更榮獲第18 屆韓國大眾音樂獎跨界專輯類提名。
Gonia以能量十足的現場演出著稱，並

Gonia is a pioneering crossover band from South Korea that fuses traditional Korean music with modern jazz, a style it calls K-Jazz. Formed in 2007 and debuting in 2009, Gonia brings together the janggu(a traditional drum) with bass, guitar and vocals influenced by Korean folk singing. The quartet creates a rich sound that pushes genre boundaries.
By integrating jangdan(traditional rhythmic cycles) with jazz influences, Gonia has developed a distinctive voice that is both deeply rooted in Korean culture and universally appealing. Its 2020 album, ATension, was nominated for Best Crossover Album at the 18th Korean Music Awards.
Gonia’s energetic live performances, marked by the dynamic rhythms of the janggu and the expressiveness of jazz guitar, have captivated audiences worldwide. Its North American tour in 2025 included 15 shows across the USA and Canada, culminating at the Lincoln Center in New York, solidifying its status as a significant world music export.
In addition to performing live, Gonia composes for South Korean television dramas and variety shows. It recently released its sixth full-length album in 2025, continuing to innovate in a musical world where tradition meets modernity.

杖鼓
杖鼓是一種形似沙漏的雙面 鼓，兩面音色各有特色：一面 低沉渾厚，一面則清亮高亢。
杖鼓是韓國國樂中的重要樂 器，從宮廷音樂到民謠，乃至 當代融合音樂，皆見其蹤。演 奏者可以使用鼓棍與手掌技 法，在名為「長短」句的韓國傳 統節奏中，靈活展現細膩的速 度變化及對比。杖鼓既能作 為 伴奏樂器以襯托人聲或其他樂 器獨奏，亦能作為獨奏樂器綻 放光彩。其豐富的音域與表現 力，於韓國敲擊樂器之中可謂 別樹一格，演奏時引人入勝之 餘，亦奠定其作為傳統國樂根 基的地位。
「長短」句
「長短」句指韓國傳統國樂中的 一種基本節奏體系。有別與擁 有固定拍子的西方音樂，長短 句則是基於重複的節奏型，再 在長度、速度以及氛圍上作出 變化。每種長短句皆有其獨特 的情感特質，有的緩慢而引人 深思，有的則明快而活潑。這 些節奏除了擔當引導演奏者與 聽眾的角色，也塑造了樂曲的 走向與結構。杖鼓等樂器正是 呈現長短句的絕佳媒介，透過 細微的速度與強弱變化，傳遞 情感與張力。掌握「長短」節奏 可說是詮釋與即興演奏韓國國 樂的核心技藝，亦是韓國文化 傳統中的關鍵元素。
Janggu
The jangguis a traditional Korean hourglass-shaped drum with two heads, each producing a distinct sound—one deep and resonant, the other sharp and high-pitched. It is a central instrument in gugak (traditional Korean music), used across a wide range of genres from court music to folk and contemporary fusion. Played with a combination of sticks or hand techniques, it offers exceptional rhythmic flexibility, allowing performers to express subtle tempo changes and dynamic contrasts within traditional rhythmic cycles known as jangdan. The janggu often serves as a key accompaniment instrument, supporting vocal or instrumental solos, but also shines as a solo instrument in its own right. Its rich tonal range and expressive potential give it a unique voice within Korean percussion, making it both foundational and captivating in performance.
Jangdan
Jangdan refers to the rhythmic cycles that form the foundation of traditional Korean music. Unlike Western meters, which often rely on fixed time signatures, jangdan is built on repeating rhythmic patterns that vary in length, tempo, and mood. Each jangdan carries its own emotional character—some are slow and meditative, while others are lively and energetic. These patterns guide both performers and listeners, shaping the flow and structure of a piece. Instruments such as the janggu play a crucial role in articulating the jangdan, using subtle tempo shifts and dynamic accents to convey emotion and tension. A mastery of jangdan is essential for interpreting and improvising within traditional Korean music, making it a unique and vital component of the tradition.

點水南樂來自世界非物質文化遺產「南音」 的發源地——泉州。團隊由製作人蔡凱東 發起，核心成員包括鄭明明（南音琵琶、 唱腔）、沈藝捷（南音洞簫）、張榮盼（敲 擊樂）、陳思詩（三弦）及莊建君（二弦）， 均為深耕傳統南音的青年演奏家。團隊具 備獨立創作、編曲與製作能力，更被譽為 「南音藝術當代實驗的先行者」。
在藝術呈現上，點水南樂堅持「不改一 字」，以南音為基礎，又用現代音樂元素 輔助編曲與營造氛圍，賦予千年南音以當 代律動，實現傳統與當代美學的有機融 合，並形成極具辨識度的舞台風格。
點水南樂在國際音樂界獲得廣泛認可，其 成就包括於2023年榮獲聯合國教科文組織 亞太遺產中心「全球世界遺產教育創新案 例獎」，又於2025年獲文旅部民族民間小 組頒發「非遺傳播創新獎」等。團隊曾多

Dianshui Nanyue originates from Quanzhou, the birthplace of the ancient musical artform Nanyin, a part of China’s intangible cultural heritage. The ensemble was formed by producer R2 Cai and consists of core members MINGMING (Nanyin pipa& vocals), Yijie Shen (Nanyin dongxiao, a bamboo flute), RP Zhang (percussion), Sishi Chen (sanxian) and Jianjun Zhuang (erxian). The ensemble independently creates its own compositions, arrangements and production, and has been acclaimed as a pioneer of contemporary Nanyin experimentation.
Dianshui Nanyue adheres to the principle of “not changing a single word”, building on traditional Nanyin as a foundation and incorporating modern musical elements to enhance its musical atmosphere and arrangements, imbuing the thousand-year-old Nanyin with contemporary rhythms. This achieves an organic fusion of ancient and modern aesthetics, forming a distinctive style.
The ensemble has received widespread recognition; it received the prestigious Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases’ Star of Discovery award from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre in 2023 and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Communication Innovation Award from the Ethnic and Civil Group of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2025. The ensemble has been invited multiple times to participate in the recording of television programmes made by the China Media Group, including Intangible CulturalHeritagesofChina and TheAffectionate Land. It has held dedicated performances at venues such as the Shanghai Concert Hall and Beijing Blue Note, and has performed at international events including Seoul Music Week in South Korea, giving it extensive experience in theatre and music festival performances.

About Nanyin
南音，亦稱南管或弦管，是一種起源於古 代福建泉州的絲竹樂種，並於福建及台灣地 區流行。南音的歷史可追溯至漢魏時期，樂 隊的組合形式亦保留了漢代的傳統，而當中 樂器體系、演奏範式和音樂結構均與唐宋 時期有着密切的關聯。南音以典雅深邃的 風格著稱，更被譽為「千年雅樂」。
南音作為現存歷史最悠久的音樂類型之 一，與智化寺京音樂等其他古老樂種共同 體現了古代雅樂的美學理念。在南音樂隊 中，每件樂器皆各司其職，形成複雜的多 層結構；音響層次分明，互不奪主。南音 的典型樂隊編制包括琵琶、三弦、洞簫及 二弦，合稱「上四管」。曲目既有純器樂 曲，也有配上樂器伴奏的唱曲。
南音是閩南地區的核心樂種，並廣泛應用
於道教與佛教儀式音樂以及戲曲表演等場 合。2009年，南音被列入聯合國教科文組 織《人類非物質文化遺產代表作名錄》，傳 承範圍涵蓋中國及東南亞等地。
Nanyin, also known as “Nanguan” or “Xianguan”, is a genre of traditional Chinese “Silk and Bamboo” music originating from ancient Quanzhou, Fujian. It was prevalent in both Fujian and Taiwan. Nanyin preserves traditions dating back to the Han and Wei dynasties. Its ensemble arrangement retains characteristics from the Han dynasty, while its instrument system, performance paradigm and musical structure are closely linked to the Tang and Song dynasties. Known for its elegance and profundity, Nanyin is honoured as a “living fossil” of Chinese classical music.
Considered one of the oldest surviving music genres, Nanyin, alongside Zhihua Temple Jing music, embodies the aesthetic principles of ancient court music. In a Nanyin ensemble, each instrument fulfills a distinct role, creating a multilayered structure. The sonic clarity is achieved with no single instrument overpowering the others. A typical ensemble includes pipa, sanxian, dongxiao and erxian, collectively known as the “Upper Four Instruments”. The repertoire encompasses purely instrumental pieces and vocal pieces accompanied by instruments.
Nanyin, as the core music genre of southern Fujian, is applied in diverse settings such as Taoist and Buddhist ritual music, and theatrical performances. Inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, Nanyin is preserved across China and Southeast Asia.

Founded in 2015, WOOONTA is a world music band that skillfully blends the ancient and the modern, and bridges the East and the West, to forge a distinctive and original sound. The band is led by Erhu virtuoso T.S. Lo, with sitar master Ryohei Kanemitsu (“Yo”) serving as Music Director.
WOOONTA centres on a dialogue between the two Eastern instruments, the erhu and sitar, weaving their musical aesthetics into a contemporary showcase. This cross-cultural, cross-genre instrumental conversation is highly regarded by curators across Europe and the United States. The outfit’s debut album, Wooontaful, received multiple nominations at the Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music, and won the award for Best Composition and Arrangement.
Since 2016, WOOONTA has earned critical acclaim for performances at renowned events including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Lucerne Music Festival, the Taiwan World Music Festival and the Asia-Pacific Traditional Arts Festival, establishing itself as a leading voice in Asian cross-genre music. Its music has also been featured on the French radio programme JAZZ ATTITUDE, drawing attention from international music critics. In 2023, WOOONTA had the honour of performing as the special opening act for the globally broadcast Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert.

Tradition Thrives Through Innovation— Exploring WOOONTA’s Philosophy of Sound
「傳統」從來不是「革新」的對立面。相 反，傳統正是由無數次革新所累積而成的 結果。一個時代的勇敢嘗試，會在下一個 時代成為理所當然的形式，而那又將成為 新一輪創新的基礎。我們所謂的「傳統」， 其實是無數創意與挑戰交織而成。因此， 今日誕生的革新，也終將成為未來傳統的 一部分。
這個道理，是我從西塔琴老師奧斯達．朱 澤．漢那兒學來的。他出身於印度古典音樂 界極具聲望的西塔琴世家，在傳承前人血脈 的同時，也發展出屬於自己的獨特演奏風 格。如今，他以大師之姿在世界各地巡演， 引領印度古典音樂走向新時代。
“Tradition” has never been the antithesis of “innovation”. On the contrary, tradition is precisely the result of countless innovations that accumulated over time. What one era boldly attempts becomes taken for granted in the next era, forming the foundation for a new cycle of creation. What we call “tradition” is, in fact, a tapestry woven from traces of endless creativity and challenge. Thus, the innovations born today will ultimately become part of the tradition of tomorrow.
I learned this insight from my sitar teacher, Ustad Shujaat Khan, who comes from one of the most respectable sitar lineages in Indian classical music. While inheriting a profound legacy, he also cultivated a distinctive performance style of his own. Today, as a master of the sitar, he tours the world and guides Indian classical music into a new era.
The sitar is one of the most representative string instruments in North Indian classical music. With an elongated neck and gourd-shaped resonating body, it is fitted with six main strings and 11 sympathetic strings. The sound of the sitar is not merely a melody, but a resonance that traverses time and space. Whenever a string is plucked, the other strings subtly respond. The sympathetic sound that supports the main melody becomes tangible, a “resonance between sound and silence”.
Unlike Western music, which mostly relies on written scores, the performance practice of the sitar, however, places an emphasis on improvisation. Within a framework known as rāga (melodic mode) and tala (rhythmic cycle), the performer freely paints a landscape of sound. The silence of every note carries its own meaning—the “emptiness” or “space” that is left behind after the sound fades. It can sink in the listener’s being and evoke emotions that transcend language. 西塔琴是北印度古典音樂中最具代表性的 弦樂器之一。它擁有細長的琴頸與葫蘆製 成的共鳴琴身，並配有六條主弦與十一條 共鳴弦。西塔琴的聲音不僅能塑造旋律， 更是一種穿越時間與空間的共鳴。每撥動 一根琴弦，其他弦便會輕輕回應。那支撐 主旋律的共鳴音，便如同讓「聲與靜之間 的餘韻」具象化。
西塔琴的演奏方式與西方音樂不同，它不 依賴樂譜，而重視即興演奏。演奏者在名 為「Rāga」（旋律模式）及「Tala」（節奏 模式）的框架之中，自由地描繪音樂的風 景。每一個音符之後的寂靜都有其意義— —聲音消逝之後留下的「空」或「間」，能 滲入聽者的心靈，喚起超越語言的情感。
這種感受，也與日本的傳統藝術、台灣常 見的中華古典音樂，以及整個亞洲的音樂 美學互相呼應。
我們的二重奏組合——問他跨界樂團， 以印度音樂及中華古典音樂為起點，融合 亞洲音樂特有的動態之美，如同以水墨描 繪世界的濃淡一般，透過西塔琴與二胡這 兩種亞洲傳統弦樂器，以音色的明暗層次 描繪宇宙。兩種樂器如同在對話中彼此傾 聽、互相呼吸，音色層層疊疊，最終在共 鳴的頂點後歸於寧靜——那樣的流動，就 像生命的呼吸一般自然。當聽眾接觸我們 的音樂時，將會發現「傳統」與「革新」並 非對立，而是可以共存並相互滋養。他們 會感受到傳統樂器融合時所展現的無限可 能。雖然植根於古老的傳統之中，但我們 始終以現代音樂家的精神來探索新的表達 方式。那不是否定過去的革新，而是懷抱 過去、邁向未來的勇氣與姿態。
音樂與人一樣，都是不斷變化的存在。而
傳統的本質，正蘊藏於這不斷的變化之 中。我們始終懷抱着這份信念，並將持續 在聲音的呼吸之間，邁向屬於我們的革新 之路。

resonates with Japanese traditional arts, the classical Chinese music practised in Taiwan, and indeed with the broader musical aesthetics of Asia as a whole.
Our duo, WOOONTA, takes its starting point from classical Indian and Chinese music, fusing the dynamic beauty of Asian musical traditions. Like ink wash painting that renders the world through intensity, we use the sitar and the erhu to depict the cosmos through shifting shades of timbre. The instruments listen to each other like a dialogue, breathing together; their tones layer and accumulate until reaching a peak of resonance. They eventually rest into stillness that flows as naturally as the breath of life. When audiences encounter WOOONTA’s music, they will realise that “tradition” and “innovation” are not opposing concepts, but ideas that can co-exist and nourish each other. They will experience the boundless possibilities revealed through the fusion of traditions as we explore new approaches to expression with the spirit of contemporary musicians. This is not innovation that rejects the past, but a courageous stance that embraces history while stepping forward into the future.
Music, like humanity, is an ever - changing presence. And the essence of tradition lies within this continuous transformation. This belief drives WOOONTA forward on the path of innovation that belongs to all of us.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a non-profit organisation. Income from ticket sales and government baseline funding can only partially cover the Festival’s costs for presenting and promoting the best performing arts from around the world. The Festival can only continue its work thanks to the generous support of its donors. Please support the Festival Donation Scheme so we can continue to present world-class international and local artists as well as offering diverse outreach and education activities.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Art Development Matching Grants Scheme.
