二零二六年香港藝術節隆重 舉 行，謹此致賀。
今年藝術節邁進第五十四屆，約 180 場演出涵蓋 音樂、戲曲、歌劇、戲劇、舞蹈、藝術科技及 其他表演藝術創作，精彩多元，引人矚目。
藝術節在二月二十七日以西班牙國家舞劇院著 名舞劇《美麗的奧蒂羅》揭開序幕，在舞台重 現巴黎黃金時代的歌舞昇平，別出心裁。三月 二十七日藝術節閉幕以大型舞劇《牡丹亭》為 壓軸演出，呈獻導演兼編舞黎星對經典愛情劇 目的嶄新演繹。今年的音樂節目陣容強大，匯 聚各傑出鋼琴家獻技，有年輕韓國天才鋼琴家 任奫燦，也有榮獲二零二五年范．克萊本國際 大賽金獎及觀 眾 大獎的本地鋼琴家沈靖韜，實 在不容錯過。
一如既往，藝術節包羅繽紛多彩的外展及教育 活動。今年的「加料節目」着重豐富藝術愛好 者的文化體驗，加深對世界級藝術家的認識， 對於啓發更多人參與藝術活動，以至鞏固香港 作為中外文化藝術交流中心的定位，極為重要。

I am pleased to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the organisation of its 2026 season. This year’s Festival, the 54th edition, features some 180 performances, encompassing music, Chinese and Western opera, theatre, dance, arts technology and a dazzling variety of performing arts productions.
The Festival opens on 27 February with Ballet Nacional de España’s acclaimed operatic ballet La Bella Otero , recreating the glamour of Paris’ golden era on stage. The Festival concludes on 27 March with the large-scale dance theatre production DreaminThePeonyPavilion , directed and choreographed by Li Xing, injecting fresh life into the timeless love classic. This year’s music performances present a number of brilliant pianists, including young Korean piano sensation Yunchan Lim, and Hong Kong-born Aristo Sham, the gold medallist and audience award winner at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
As ever, the Festival features a diverse range of outreach and educational activities. This year’s PLUS programme focuses on a wide cultural experience for arts lovers and deeper understanding of world-class artists, contributing to promoting engagement in cultural events and consolidating Hong Kong’s positioning as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

A warm welcome to the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival. As a leading international performing arts event, the Festival continues to uphold its mission of enriching our city’s cultural life and promoting the best of the performing arts to different sectors of our community. This year, the Festival brings to Hong Kong more than 1,100 distinguished local and international artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines in over 180 performances of more than 45 programmes, as well as about 300 “PLUS”, outreach and education events.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the HKSAR Government, acting through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, for its annual subvention and matching grant. My heartfelt thanks also go out to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, our corporate sponsors, charitable foundations and donors for their generous support. Their invaluable contributions empower us to actively advance the community through the performing arts.
My genuine appreciation goes to all our internationally renowned and most talented artists for their creativity and outstanding performances on stage. 第 54 屆香港藝術節雲集眾多大師級藝術家與傑 出團隊，帶來超過 180 場的音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、 歌劇、戲曲、藝術科技與跨界創作節目，展示藝 術家的精湛造詣。
今年的其中一個主題，是對「勇氣與和平」的探 索。當全球都因為戰亂、流離、經濟下行等苦難 感到焦躁不安，藝術家以獨特的視角與語言，在 舞台上交織出對世界的回應，提醒我們抱持堅毅 與希望。

The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival once again brings together great masters and outstanding artists, presenting more than 180 performances across music, dance, theatre, opera, Chinese opera, arts-tech and interdisciplinary creations—showcasing the exceptional craft of leading local and international talent.
One of this year’s themes is an exploration of “Courage and Peace”. At a time when the world is troubled by war, displacement, economic downturns and other hardships, artists respond from their own distinctive perspectives and in their own languages on stage, reminding us of the need to be resilient and hopeful.
Some works in this year’s Festival adopt a minimalistic theatrical approach, enabling us to transcend the constraints of geography and resources. We also continue to embrace arts-tech, using mixed-reality technologies to open up new performance possibilities.
As always, the Festival presents more than 300 outreach and education activities. Our PLUS events feature a curated series of talks, masterclasses, backstage tours and guided cultural walks. Our comprehensive education initiatives tailored for primary, secondary and tertiary students are aimed at enabling students to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the works we present.

, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and in February and March each year.
non-profit organisation. The total income target for FY2025/26 (including the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2026 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$159 million. Current Government annual baseline funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival's total income. Around 24% of the Festival’s income needs to be generated from the box office, and around 44% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 20% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations. The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 250 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas.

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced with GoetheInstitut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and TheTempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake co-commissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber coproduced with San Francisco Opera; Laila , a co-production with Finnish National Opera and Ballet, and 20,000LeaguesUndertheSea , co-produced with The Central Academy of Drama, China, and Compagnie Point Fixe.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 33 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached around 849,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meetthe-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

Volcano is a serialised, live-performance mini-series that combines experimental theatre, contemporary dance and science fiction in an electrifying production that offers audiences a unique and thrilling experience.
Conceived and created by acclaimed director and choreographer Luke Murphy, Volcano is presented in four 45-minute episodes. Subverting form and expectation, and blurring the line between reality and fiction, the production presents a new model for live performance in the Netflix era.
Two characters inhabit a rundown living room, a space out of time, a room with no door. Prompted by a mysterious radio in the corner, the two inhabitants pass the endless hours together by continually launching into action—re-enacting scenes from lives long past, fantasies of what might have been and hopes for what is yet to come. As the episodes develop, a darker sense of uncertainty threatens to destabilise their fragile equilibrium. Why are they there? How long has it been? And why has the radio started to glitch?
A four-time winner at the Irish Times Theatre Awards—including the award for Best Production— Volcano weaves together a tapestry of film, theatre and visceral physical movement. The piece explores themes of control, isolation, co-dependency and escapism in an uncertain world—exposing who we are and what we ultimately choose to hold onto.

Attic Projects was founded by choreographer and performer Luke Murphy in 2015 to serve as an incubator, facilitator and producer of his work. Working across the platforms of dance, theatre, film and installation, Attic Projects creates work rooted in a visceral, physical language that finds the universal within the deeply personal. Its productions include YourOwnMan/Mad Notions (2015), winner of the Little Gem Award at the Dublin Fringe Festival; OnTriumphandTrauma (2016); The Dust We Raised (2017); TheMilkyboy Kid (2018); and Villains (2019), winner of the Best Ensemble Award at the Dublin Fringe Festival. Volcano premiered at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2021 to critical and audience acclaim, and went on to win four Irish Times Theatre Awards, including for Best Production. Volcano has since toured nationally and internationally, including to the Dublin Theatre Festival, St Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn for the Under the Radar Festival and to the Brisbane Powerhouse for the Brisbane Arts Festival.

A High-Pressure Performance about Powerlessness and Isolation

You could spend a lot of time trying to decide what Volcano actually is. It’s a show that opens up the doors to the theatre and lets the contemporary world in—formally, in its daring blend of stylised theatrical performance, interpretive dance and TV show; but also thematically, as it touches on alienation and isolation, the search for connection and a pervasive sense of losing control.
Its two performers are inside a glass box, styled as an untidy living room, with the audience on just two sides. The pair appears to be sealed in some kind of capsule travelling through space, but they do not know what’s going on. They keep filming each other using an old-school movie camera, and they’re frequently interrupted by bursts of static from a radio.
Occasionally they’re either prompted to dance, in styles from swing to rave, or to stage a pastiche of a TV clip, from a parody of a game show to a news reporter being swallowed by a storm. All this is apparently overseen by an organisation called The Amber Project, which deploys would-be reassuring corporate pablum in its public pronouncements to mask what appears to be a sinister purpose and a chilling lack of regard for life.
First performed at the Galway International Arts Festival in 2021, Volcano is the work of Irish writer, choreographer, director and performer Luke Murphy.

全劇分為四集，每集四十五分鐘，於同一 晚上演。其觀眾群亦一如作品自身，非常 多元。墨菲說：「有時在連開幾場的情況 下，會有觀眾再三跑來重溫，甚至聽過有 人表示：『我有一些愛看電影、從不進劇場 的朋友，他們一定要來看！』」
「它的其中一個出發點是：製作一齣電視劇 式的舞蹈劇場，究竟意味着甚麼？電視節 目每分每秒皆須牽引人心，於是我徹底拋 開創作藝術的舊習和包袱，反而有種獲得
解放的感覺。」
至於《火山》這個頗為抽象的名字，原來 是從創作時的心境而來。墨菲形容：「這就 像一個瀕臨爆發的狀態，變化一觸即發。
當時的氣氛猶如一罐被劇烈搖晃過的汽 水。我覺得在創作這部作品時，感覺就像 一座火山。」

It was written during Covid and originally presented to an audience of just eight people, each ensconced within their own booth.
“When we opened it, it was deep in the middle of the pandemic,” says Murphy. “During lockdown, in an isolated area of West Cork [in Ireland], I started working in my living room, and that became the beginning of how the piece is staged and what the ideas around it are. Isolation, powerlessness, co-existence with someone else—they were all relevant at the time. It talks about all these things but transforms them into the wildest fantasy I could think of.”
Post-pandemic, the staging has been very different. “What’s been really satisfying is it hasn’t fundamentally changed how we perform it. The themes are still relevant; it’s looking at what you hold onto in a powerless situation.”
It’s divided into four 45-minute episodes, presented over a single night. As befits a work that blends genres rather than simply straddling them, the audience is remarkably diverse, says Murphy. “Across a run of more than two or three shows, we get a huge amount of repeat audience members. Someone comes along and says: ‘My friends who like films and would never normally come to the theatre—they have to see this’.”

Luke Murphy
Luke Murphy is an Irish choreographer, director and performer. Through his company, Attic Projects, he has created and produced more than 12 dancetheatre works for stage, film, installation and sitespecific/immersive contexts. His pieces have been presented throughout Ireland, the US, the UK and Germany.
As a performer, Murphy worked with Punchdrunk from 2009-22, originating roles in SleepNoMore (New York) and TheBurntCity (London), and with Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez from 2014-18. In addition, Murphy has performed in projects with Pavel Zustiak/Palissimo, Martha Clarke, the Kate Weare Company, Janis Brenner, Sean Curran, John Kelly, Alexandra Waierstall, Jonah Bokaer, Liz Roche, Ben Duke and others. Murphy is currently an Associate Artist at the Dublin Dance Festival and Dance Artist in Residence at Dance Cork Firkin Crane.

Will Thompson
Will Thompson was introduced to dance while at school in London. His training began in the Trinity Laban CAT scheme, alongside being involved in Shoreditch Youth Dance, and continued at Rambert School in Twickenham. During his final year, Thompson was selected to take part in DV8’s Physical Theatre Professional Development programme and he graduated from Rambert with a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in 2016.
Since then, his work within theatre and dance has encompassed stage and film including work and performances with Hannes Langolf, Iván Pérez, Johannes Wieland, Maciej Kuźmiński, Maxine Doyle, Michael Keegan-Dolan and Xie Xin. Thompson most recently performed in Punchdrunk’s TheBurntCity and contributed to the production’s creation in 2021-22.

Lily Ockwell
Originally from California, Lily Ockwell is a performer and dance theatre director. She has worked with the British theatre company Punchdrunk since 2011, including on SleepNo More in New York and Shanghai. Other immersive productions include TheCook,theThief, His Wife & Her Lover in Miami and Third Rail Projects’ The Grand Paradise in Brooklyn.
Ockwell has performed and toured productions with Adam Barruch, Luke Murphy, Martha Clarke, David Dorfman, Lisa Race, Kyle Abraham and Gina Gibney. As an artistic director, she has created large-scale immersive productions for the McKittrick Hotel’s Manderley Bar in New York, The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles, The Faena in Miami and various businesses. She has appeared in the television series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and the film AfterYang choreographed by Celia Rowlson Hall.

Stephen Moynihan
Stephen Moynihan is an Irish movement director, choreographer and intimacy coordinator. He trained at the London Contemporary Dance School and has worked globally with artists such as Akram Khan, Polly Bennett, Alex Reynolds and Damien Jalet.
His screen credits include TedLasso, Houseof theDragon, TheWitcher, Aquaman2 and Lady Chatterley’sLover. His theatre work includes Frankenstein, TheSchoolforScandal and Spitfire Girls for Tilted Wig. He has been the Rehearsal Director for Attic Projects on Volcano and Scorched Earth. He has taught at the Rose Bruford drama studio and Trinity Laban in London. Moynihan is a certified wellbeing coordinator and part of NFTS’s 2025 Intimacy Coordination cohort.

Stephen Dodd
Stephen Dodd is an award-winning lighting designer for theatre, dance and opera productions. Based between Dublin and Cork, he trained at The Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College, in Dublin.
His recent lighting designs include TheCave and TheQuareFellow (for The Abbey Theatre in Dublin), Volcano and ThePrometheusProject (for Attic Projects), King/Shrine and NightDances (for United Fall), WhatWeHold (for Jean Butler/Lovano), A ThingICannotName and OrfeoedEuridice (for the Irish National Opera).

Set Designer Alyson Cummins
Alyson Cummins studied architecture at University College Dublin, where she won the AGA gold medal. She went on to train at the Motley Theatre Design School in London and was a finalist in the Linbury Biennial Prize for Stage Design. Her work to date includes stage designs for The Abbey Theatre and Gate Theatre in Dublin, Oper Wuppertal, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal Opera House and Opera Holland Park in London, the Icelandic Opera, Lyric Belfast, the Bristol Old Vic, and Sherman Cymru and Theatr Clwyd in Wales. Together with Pai Rathaya, Cummins won the award for Best Set Design for Volcano at the 2021 Irish Times Theatre Awards, having previously won it for her design of Pentecost at the Lyric Belfast.

Set & Costume Designer Pai Rathaya
Pai Rathaya is a Thai stage designer based in Bangkok and working in both Thailand and Ireland. Her work encompasses theatre, opera, musicals and dance.
Rathaya graduated with an MFA in Stage Design from the Lir Academy, Dublin. Her recent works include the Cork Proms concerts 2025, TheLifeThat Was, TapTapTalapTapTap and HeartofStone. Together with Alyson Cummins, Rathaya won the award for Best Set Design for Volcano at the 2021 Irish Times Theatre Awards.

Rob Moloney
Rob Moloney is a composer and sound designer for theatre and dance. He has worked with many performance artists and theatre companies in Ireland, including The Abbey Theatre and Gate Theatre in Dublin, Luke Murphy/ Attic Projects, ANU Productions and Ballet Ireland.
He studied music at University College Cork and pursued further studies in orchestration, synthesis and advanced mixing techniques at the Berklee College of Music in the USA. Moloney was one of the participating designers in the Irish pavilion at the Prague Quadrennial 2023 and has received two nominations for Best Sound Design at the Irish Times Theatre Awards.

Patricio Cassinoni
Patricio Cassinoni is a photographer, videographer and audio-visual designer born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over the years, he has collaborated with a range of musicians, theatre makers, dancers and choreographers in Ireland and internationally, including Luke Murphy, Catherine Young, John Scott and Laura Murphy, as well as organisations such as Dublin Dance Festival, the ANU, Landmark in Ireland, the Galway Theatre Festival, The Abbey Theatre in Dublin, and the Dublin Fringe Festival. From his photo studio in Dublin, he continues to develop his creative work and regularly teaches photography lighting workshops.

Simon Bird worked for the Lyric Theatre in Belfast from 1995-2001, and was Technical Manager at The Island Arts Centre in Lisburn from 2001-11, as well as Technical Manager at The MAC Belfast from 2011. In 2022 he went freelance. His recent work includes Scorched Earth, TheArchivist and Volcano (Luke Murphy/Attic Projects), Luminaria (Backstage Theatre and The Ark Dublin, 2025) and GoodVibrations (the Lyric Theatre in Belfast and the IAC in New York).

Chris Hopcraft
Chris is a stage technician and stage manager based in Cork. Since graduating from the Theatre and Drama Studies course at Munster Technological University, he has worked professionally in the Cork Opera House, The Everyman Theatre in Cork, and as a freelance stage manager throughout Ireland and England.
His recent credits include Cinderella (The Everyman, 202223), Merboy (Campfire Theatre, 2023), ThePrometheusProject: TheArchivist (Attic Projects, 2023), Volcano (Irish tour, Attic Projects, 2023), Volcano (international tour, 2024) and ScorchedEarth (Attic Projects, 2025).

Chief Electrician & Re-lighter
Adrian Moylan
Adrian Moylan is a chief electrician and lighting technician based in Dublin, Ireland. After beginning his career in film and television, Moylan slowly migrated towards stage lighting after discovering an interest in the live and tactile nature of the medium. The past few years have seen Moylan work extensively overseas, in places such as China, Canada, the USA, Australia and the UK. He is delighted to be back in Asia, as part of the team that is bringing Volcano by Attic Projects to life in Hong Kong.

Sound Engineer
Aidah Sama
Aidah Sama is a sound engineer originally from Melbourne, Australia. Since moving to Ireland in 2017, Sama has toured both nationally and internationally with companies such as Attic Projects (Volcano), Teac Damsa (Nobodaddy, Mám) and the Paul Curley Theatre (PolarBearandPenguin). From 2021-23, Sama was part of the in-house sound team at The Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Most recently, Sama has worked on TheSecondWoman (Cork Midsummer Festival), King Lear (The Gate Theatre, Dublin) and TheQuareFellow (Abbey Theatre).

Creative Producer Gwen Van Spÿk
Gwen Van Spÿk has had a 30-year career across the full breadth of the live performance sector and has produced shows that have toured across the globe with artists including Russell Maliphant, Carol Brown, Carol Butcher, Hetain Patel, Pan Pan Theatre and Lone Twin. For Lone Twin, Van Spÿk also produced TheBoatProject, a highlight of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in London, and has produced other one-off large-scale projects, including a dance programme for the Rugby League World Cup 2013 centered around a performance by a cast of 500 for the Opening Ceremony at Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

Miles Harrigan
Miles Harrigan is a creative producer based between Cape Clear Island in County Cork and Dublin, Ireland. He works in both English-and Irish-language theatre, dance and music. Harrigan received a Bachelor’s degree in History from Dartmouth College, and is nearing completion of a Master’s degree in Drama and Performance Studies from University College Dublin. His recent work includes serving as an Associate Producer, with Attic Projects, on Luke Murphy’s ScorchedEarth; Line Producer, with Thisispopbaby, on the UK tour of WAKE; and Assistant Producer, with Once Off Productions, on TheQuietMen and on Konstantin(AfterThe Seagull).

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a non-profit organisation. Income from ticket sales and government baseline funding can only partially cover the Festival’s costs for presenting and promoting the best performing arts from around the world. The Festival can only continue its work thanks to the generous support of its donors. Please support the Festival Donation Scheme so we can continue to present world-class international and local artists as well as offering diverse outreach and education activities.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Art Development Matching Grants Scheme. Part of the Festival’s sponsorship and donation income will benefit from a dollar-for-dollar match by the Government.* Donations of any amount will make a difference, and are greatly appreciated!
