今年藝術節邁進第五十四屆，約 180 場演出涵蓋 音樂、戲曲、歌劇、戲劇、舞蹈、藝術科技及 其他表演藝術創作，精彩多元，引人矚目。
藝術節在二月二十七日以西班牙國家舞劇院著 名舞劇《美麗的奧蒂羅》揭開序幕，在舞台重 現巴黎黃金時代的歌舞昇平，別出心裁。三月 二十七日藝術節閉幕以大型舞劇《牡丹亭》為 壓軸演出，呈獻導演兼編舞黎星對經典愛情劇 目的嶄新演繹。今年的音樂節目陣容強大，匯 聚各傑出鋼琴家獻技，有年輕韓國天才鋼琴家 任奫燦，也有榮獲二零二五年范．克萊本國際 大賽金獎及觀 眾 大獎的本地鋼琴家沈靖韜，實 在不容錯過。
一如既往，藝術節包羅繽紛多彩的外展及教育 活動。今年的「加料節目」着重豐富藝術愛好 者的文化體驗，加深對世界級藝術家的認識， 對於啓發更多人參與藝術活動，以至鞏固香港 作為中外文化藝術交流中心的定位，極為重要。

I am pleased to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the organisation of its 2026 season. This year’s Festival, the 54th edition, features some 180 performances, encompassing music, Chinese and Western opera, theatre, dance, arts technology and a dazzling variety of performing arts productions.
The Festival opens on 27 February with Ballet Nacional de España’s acclaimed operatic ballet La Bella Otero , recreating the glamour of Paris’ golden era on stage. The Festival concludes on 27 March with the large-scale dance theatre production DreaminThePeonyPavilion , directed and choreographed by Li Xing, injecting fresh life into the timeless love classic. This year’s music performances present a number of brilliant pianists, including young Korean piano sensation Yunchan Lim, and Hong Kong-born Aristo Sham, the gold medallist and audience award winner at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
As ever, the Festival features a diverse range of outreach and educational activities. This year’s PLUS programme focuses on a wide cultural experience for arts lovers and deeper understanding of world-class artists, contributing to promoting engagement in cultural events and consolidating Hong Kong’s positioning as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

A warm welcome to the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival. As a leading international performing arts event, the Festival continues to uphold its mission of enriching our city’s cultural life and promoting the best of the performing arts to different sectors of our community. This year, the Festival brings to Hong Kong more than 1,100 distinguished local and international artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines in over 180 performances of more than 45 programmes, as well as about 300 “PLUS”, outreach and education events.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the HKSAR Government, acting through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, for its annual subvention and matching grant. My heartfelt thanks also go out to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, our corporate sponsors, charitable foundations and donors for their generous support. Their invaluable contributions empower us to actively advance the community through the performing arts.
My genuine appreciation goes to all our internationally renowned and most talented artists for their creativity and outstanding performances on stage. 第 54 屆香港藝術節雲集眾多大師級藝術家與傑 出團隊，帶來超過 180 場的音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、 歌劇、戲曲、藝術科技與跨界創作節目，展示藝 術家的精湛造詣。
今年的其中一個主題，是對「勇氣與和平」的探 索。當全球都因為戰亂、流離、經濟下行等苦難 感到焦躁不安，藝術家以獨特的視角與語言，在 舞台上交織出對世界的回應，提醒我們抱持堅毅 與希望。
此外，今屆藝術節部分作品採用了簡約的戲劇手 法，讓我們擺脫地域與資源的限制。我們亦繼續 擁抱藝術科技，利用混合實景技術，開拓新的表 演效果。

The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival once again brings together great masters and outstanding artists, presenting more than 180 performances across music, dance, theatre, opera, Chinese opera, arts-tech and interdisciplinary creations—showcasing the exceptional craft of leading local and international talent.
One of this year’s themes is an exploration of “Courage and Peace”. At a time when the world is troubled by war, displacement, economic downturns and other hardships, artists respond from their own distinctive perspectives and in their own languages on stage, reminding us of the need to be resilient and hopeful.
Some works in this year’s Festival adopt a minimalistic theatrical approach, enabling us to transcend the constraints of geography and resources. We also continue to embrace arts-tech, using mixed-reality technologies to open up new performance possibilities.
As always, the Festival presents more than 300 outreach and education activities. Our PLUS events feature a curated series of talks, masterclasses, backstage tours and guided cultural walks. Our comprehensive education initiatives tailored for primary, secondary and tertiary students are aimed at enabling students to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the works we present.

, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and in February and March each year.
non-profit organisation. The total income target for FY2025/26 (including the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2026 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$159 million. Current Government annual baseline funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival's total income. Around 24% of the Festival’s income needs to be generated from the box office, and around 44% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 20% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations. The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 250 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas.

香港藝術節 一直大力投資 下一代的藝術教育。「青 少年之友」成立 33 年來，已為約 849,000 位本地中 學生及大專生提供藝術體驗活動。藝術節近年亦開 展多項針對大、中、小學生的藝術教育活動，包括 由國際及本地藝術家主持的示範講座及工作坊、學 生展演、演前講座、公開彩排、以及欣賞藝術節演 出。同時，通過「學生票捐助計劃」，藝術節每年提 供約 10,000 張半價學生票。

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced with GoetheInstitut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and TheTempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake co-commissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber coproduced with San Francisco Opera; Laila , a co-production with Finnish National Opera and Ballet, and 20,000LeaguesUndertheSea , co-produced with The Central Academy of Drama, China, and Compagnie Point Fixe.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 33 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached around 849,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meetthe-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

《牡丹亭》創作於明朝萬曆二十六年 （1598），出自中國最偉大的劇作家之一湯 顯祖（1550-1616）之手，是其代表作「臨 川四夢」系列中的一部。作為崑曲乃至中 國戲劇史上的瑰寶，《牡丹亭》以其詩意的 語言、富有深度的哲思和對情感的探索聞 名古今。
ThePeonyPavilion was written in 1598 during the Ming dynasty by Tang Xianzu (1550–1616), one of China’s greatest playwrights. It is part of his “The Four Dreams of Linchuan” series, exploring the boundaries between reality and dreams. As a cornerstone of classical Chinese literature and Kun opera, ThePeony Pavilion is famed for its poetic language, philosophical depth and exploration of human emotions.
《牡丹亭》在中國文學史上同樣享有崇高的 地位，也是漢學研究的重要課題。學界往往 把湯顯祖與同時代的莎士比亞（1564-1616） 比作東西方戲劇的雙峰。湯顯祖作品中蘊 含的主題（如跨越生死的愛情等）能引起廣 泛共鳴，但在過去，其影響力主要限於學術 界，傳播度不及莎劇。值得欣喜的是，隨着 愈來愈多戲劇、舞蹈及歌劇等不同藝術形式 的改編版本在世界各地出現，《牡丹亭》正 逐漸走向更廣闊的世界，引領更多觀眾感受 其永恆的情感魅力與美學價值。
在跨文化傳播視角下，中國哲學與東方詩 意的深層意蘊，須回歸其原生文化方能得 到精準闡釋。當《牡丹亭》這類經典作品 進入國際舞台時，相對原本的單一文化語 境，其核心意象此時面臨着雙重的闡釋挑 戰：一方面，中國傳統文化將「夢」作為 陰陽兩界的橋樑，與西方弗洛伊德精神 分析學派的「潛意識投射說」構成鮮明區 別；另一方面，在諸多中國文學作品中， 「鬼魂」常作為未竟情志的載體和形象出現 ——在《牡丹亭》中，杜麗娘的遊魂便象 徵着超越生死的執念——這又與西方敍事 中的「怨靈」截然不同。
ThePeonyPavilion holds a revered place in Chinese literature and is widely studied in Sinology. Nonetheless, it remains less familiar to general international audiences than Western literary giants such as William Shakespeare (1564–1616), who lived during the same period as Tang. Despite its universal concepts that resonate across cultures, the work has yet to achieve widespread recognition outside academic circles. However, its growing presence in global artistic adaptations, including theatre, dance and opera, is gradually introducing this masterpiece to a broader audience, inviting them to discover its timeless beauty and emotional depth.
When it comes to cross-cultural communication, the profound philosophical and poetic connotations of Chinese culture require a return to their original cultural contexts for accurate interpretation. Presenting classical works such as ThePeonyPavilion on international stages presents interpretive challenges. On one hand, traditional Chinese culture views dreams as bridges between the physical and spiritual realms (yin and yang), forming a sharp contrast with the Western Freudian psychoanalytic theory of “subconscious projection”. On the other hand, in many Chinese literary works, ghosts (for instance,

Du Liniang’s wandering spirit, which symbolises love transcending life and death) serve as vessels for unfulfilled emotions, differing fundamentally from the malevolent spirits of Western narratives. To resolve such cultural disparities, a systematic translation mechanism must be established— one that not only explains how symbolic imagery (for instance, peonies representing youth and willows conveying parting sorrow) carries literati spirituality but also reveals how the theory of “emotion transcending all” dramatically rebels against the Ming dynasty’s Confucian orthodoxy of “preserving heavenly principles while eliminating human desires”. Only by re-anchoring these cultural symbols within the creative tension between Tang Xianzu’s theory of “creating drama from emotion” and the Confucian philosophical duality of “emotion arising from human nature but restrained by ritual propriety” can we move on from simply decoding symbols to a shared crosscultural emotional resonance.

明萬曆年，沉香嫋嫋。一小室內，中國古 典文學史上最為動人心魄的一則愛情故事
正緩鑄而成。作者湯顯祖以筆蘸滿人間 「至情」，寫就五十五齣傳奇劇本——《牡 丹亭還魂記》。
故事穿梭於虛實相生的奇幻世界，熔鑄生 死、陰陽，筆落驚風。《牡丹亭》憑藉其驚 世駭俗的想像力和幽迴曲折的深婉情思， 在世界文學舞台中佔據不朽地位。
這部傳奇劇本講述太守之女杜麗娘囿於春 閨，一日偶然遊園，牡丹亭中驚夢，在夢 裏邂逅執柳的書生柳夢梅。一枕春歡，竟 成三生路上的精魂照影，不休不滅。麗娘 為情而死，更因情復生。

More than 420 years ago, in the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty, one of the most soul-stirring stories in Chinese classical literature history was created in a small room with the fragrance of sandalwood lingering in the air. Tang Xianzu, its author, dipped his brush into the essence of “supreme love” to craft a 55-scene legend: The PeonyPavilion
The story takes us into a world of reality and fantasy, life and death, yin and yang, always with a strong emotional impact. With its audacious imagination and emotional depth, it occupies an immortal position on the global literary stage.
This script tells the tale of Du Liniang, the daughter of a magistrate, confined within her springtime boudoir. One day, she strolls in the garden and falls into a dream at the Peony Pavilion, encountering Liu Mengmei, a scholar bearing a willow branch. A fleeting spring dalliance turns into an eternal journey on the path of karma—unquenchable, undying. Du Liniang perishes for love, yet through love is resurrected.
Tang Xianzu declared that “passion births dreams; dreams birth drama”, and this myth of supreme passion about “the living dying and the dead reviving” pulses with poetic and theatrical vitality across its 55 scenes.
From the sensuous reverie of “The Interrupted Dream” to the stern atmosphere of “Infernal Judgment”; from the daze of “The Portrait” to the ecstatic transcendence of “Resurrection”, a theme of passion resonates through the mellifluous melodies of Kun opera. “Flowers, grass, bid me stay. Living or dying, let me be”— when Du Liniang gazes into her mirror before the Peony Pavilion, the reflection reveals not just her springtime sorrow, but the vital resonance of a spirit defying mortality to pursue the truth of love. This pinnacle of “passion defying reason” continues to radiate an eternal luminescence, transcending time and space.

南安太守之女杜麗娘，閨塾習禮，春困幽 窗。一日受花神感召，偶涉後園，遇三春 好景無人見，姹紫嫣紅付頹垣。
傷春之際，歸來入夢，遇持柳書生，春情 霎動，牡丹亭內，共赴雲雨。醒來尋跡未 果，一夢蹉跎。人去難逢，自繪春容於梅 樹下，魂斷中秋月。
夢中所見使麗娘動心，癡情萌生，認定了 對夢中情人矢志不渝。
夢醒後，她睜開雙眼，明白了「自我」的 模樣，大方地踏上自己選擇的路途——這 正是生而為人的自由。
The Scroll of Dream
Du Liniang, daughter of the Nan’an Magistrate, studies propriety by the quiet window in her bedroom, languid with the weariness of spring. Lulled by the Flower Goddess, she wanders around the garden. With no one else to behold the splendour of spring, riotous blossoms are left to crumble against ruined walls.
After she falls asleep, her heart stirs upon meeting a handsome scholar. The two spend a passionate night inside the Peony Pavilion, but not a trace of him remains when she awakens. What is fated to leave will remain gone; she paints her own portrait beneath the plum blossoms and mid-autumn moon, and her soul is severed from her body.
Liniang’s dreamy visions sprout into budding infatuation, cementing her unwavering dedication to her lover.
Rising from a heavy sleep, she listens to her heart calling on her to continue her journey—such is the freedom of becoming human.

夜半低喚，忽有女影翩至，自陳泉下客， 四目相對，人鬼生情。枉死城內，神鬼 冥判，群花圍聚，群鬼畢至。有女感天動 地，有生展卷奔迎。
萬千畫卷裏，何以辨得出哪一個是她？辨 出了，還要蹚過重巒人海，疊嶂肩踵，才 能真實地執手相見。幸而他勇敢，難得 她相信。那終能穿透眾生的，就是「愛」 嗎？
The Scroll of Portrait
Travelling to take the imperial examination, scholar Liu Mengmei stays the night at the Du estate after falling into water. Led by the Flower Goddess, he stumbles across Liniang’s portrait at the Peony Pavilion.
Under the dim moonlight, a spectral silhouette takes shape; eyes meet and love blossoms between two separated souls. An unjust death summons the judges of the afterlife; flowers bloom and spirits gather. Her love moves Heaven and Earth; his love grants her a chance of rebirth.
How could one tell her apart from thousands of other portraits? Even once he did, they still had to part the seas and split the crowds to be in each other’s arms. How brave he was and how much faith she had. That which manages to penetrate through the noise, is that what love is?

Li Xing: The Director at the Crest of the Chinese Dance Drama Wave
把詩詞歌賦入舞，由舞者以身體刻劃中國
古典名著內涵，再加上華麗的現代舞台語 言。內地炙手可熱的舞蹈藝術家黎星憑這 些編舞特色，把中國舞劇推向高峰。
Poetry and prose are infused into dance, and dancers use their bodies to reveal the inner meaning of classical Chinese masterpieces, combined with the sophisticated language of the modern stage. These are the choreographic features influential Chinese dance artist Li Xing has employed to propel Chinese dance drama forward.

如今，凡是黎星有份參與的舞劇皆一票 難求。他所編排的舞劇民族舞劇《紅樓
夢》自 2021 年 9 月首演以來，在內地及海
外四十一個城市演出四百餘場，並於 2023 年榮獲第 13 屆中國舞蹈「荷花獎」舞劇 獎，近來更榮獲第 18 屆文華獎「文華劇目 獎」。其新作舞劇《牡丹亭》亦為 2026 年 第 54 屆香港藝術節閉幕演出。
回想在 2019 年，他因參與電視舞蹈競技
節目《舞蹈風暴》而廣為人所知，不過在 此之前，他早已縱橫劇場十多年，演出及 創作極具開創性的舞劇作品並獲獎無數。
他強調，早在 2013 年在廣州參與創作當代 《沙灣往事》時，他已為舞劇創作深耕。他 在 2018 年還創作了頗具實驗性的「城市空 間系列」，以現代舞來探索自身與群體的 關係，「我們會去《舞蹈風暴》，做很多跨 界的事，其實我們的根一直扎在舞台，用 舞蹈或舞劇與觀眾溝通。」
近年包括他所創作的《紅樓夢》及《牡丹 亭》等舞劇在內地大受歡迎，他歸因於後 疫情時期，觀眾需要有所不同，「所有人
更專注於自己和這個世界溝通，這些舞劇 讓我們回溯自己出生的土地與文化。」他 形容以中國古典文學為舞劇題材，猶如 「站在巨人的肩上」，作品本身已蘊含深厚 的歷史及文化內涵，較易引起觀眾共鳴， 「就像在歐洲看芭蕾舞，大幕一拉開，所 有人就很激動。」
黎星創作的舞劇聲勢不凡，服飾精緻，不 過他認為關鍵是提煉出古典中國文學的 「留白」精神，「我採用的都不是很『實』 的舞美（舞台設計）」。正如新作《牡丹 亭》改編自湯顯祖的五十五齣《牡丹亭》 原本，講述杜麗娘與柳夢梅的愛情故事。
〈遊園〉一幕，舞台上具體的花或樹枝皆不 見。全劇反而選擇以蘇州庭園特色金磚、 粉牆為主要佈景元素，呼應崑曲的發源地 蘇州，並配合大量水霧及燈光效果，營造 夢境與現實切換，由觀眾發揮想像力，
Today, every dance drama Li takes part in sells out completely. His staging of Dance Drama: A Dream of Red Mansions, which premiered in 2021, has now been performed more than 400 times in 41 cities both domestically and abroad. In 2023, it won the Dance Drama Award at the 13th China Dance Lotus Awards, and it recently received the Outstanding Performance Award at the 18th Wenhua Awards. His latest work, Dance Theatre— DreaminThePeonyPavilion is now presented at the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2026.
Reflecting on his journey, Li gained widespread recognition in 2019 after participating in the televised dance competition show Dance Smash. However, before that he had devoted more than 10 years to the stage, earning awards for both groundbreaking performance and choreography. He stresses that he has been laying the groundwork since 2013, notably through the creation of the dance drama The Past of Shawan in Guangzhou. In 2018, Li also developed the experimental City Space Series, using modern dance to explore individual and collective relationships. “We went on Dance Smash and did many cross-disciplinary projects, but our roots have always been on stage, using dance and dance drama to speak to audiences.”
His works, including Dance Drama: A Dream of Red Mansions and Dance Theatre—Dream in The PeonyPavilion, have enjoyed tremendous success in the post-pandemic era. Li believes audiences now seek deeper connections: “People are more focused on communicating with themselves and the world. These productions help us reconnect with our land and culture.” He believes that selecting themes from classical Chinese literature is like “standing on the shoulders of giants” as the stories already carry profound historical and cultural resonance. “It’s like watching ballet in Europe—at the moment the curtain rises, the entire audience is stirred with excitement.”
Li’s productions may be grand in scale and feature lavish costumes, but he insists the essence lies in the art of suggestive absence in classic Chinese literature. Dance Theatre—Dream in The PeonyPavilion, condensed and adapted from the 55-scene original by Tang Xianzu, tells the love story of Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei. During the scene titled “A Walk in the Garden”, the stage dispenses with flowers or branches altogether.
「牡丹亭就是一個極大的夢……杜麗娘她 回來了，她看見房間裏的那個柳生，是現 實，還是她的幻想？」
相比前作《紅樓夢》以俯視角度看劇中群 體，新作《牡丹亭》則採用截然不同的敍 事方式，深入人物內心，挖掘杜麗娘這位 女性對自由及美好愛情的強烈追求。黎星 亦特意邀請了專業崑曲演員錄音，以崑曲 的「賓白」（念白）形式唸出〈進夢〉一段 的詞。
「我一直認為，舞蹈不是文學的翻譯或轉 換，它應該有更多『只可意會，不可言傳』
的東西，這是只有舞蹈和舞劇做到的事， 我們的舞劇具備這種特質，有很強的當代 性。」黎星相信，這種當代性正是與全世 界的觀眾溝通的橋樑。

Rather, it conjures the spirit of Suzhou gardens through golden bricks and whitewashed walls, with mist and shifting light dissolving the boundary between dream and reality. “Dance Theatre—DreaminThePeonyPavilion is an immense dream,” Li says. “When Du Liniang returns and sees Liu in her room, is it reality, or her imagination?”
In contrast to Dance Drama: A Dream of Red Mansions, which viewed its characters from an overarching perspective, the new production Dance Theatre—DreaminThePeonyPavilion adopts a different narrative approach, delving into the inner world of Du Liniang and her fervent pursuit of freedom and true love. Li Xing also invited professional Kun opera performers to record the text, delivering the “Into the Dream” passage in the traditional binbai (spoken narration/dialogue) style.
“I have always believed that dance is not a mere translation or transposition of literature, but a vessel for the unsayable. This is the unique power of dance drama, and it is profoundly contemporary.” And for Li, it is precisely this sense of contemporaneity that connects his art to audiences around the globe.

Li Xing
Li Xing is a young dance artist who has received more than 20 gold medals at top-tier domestic and international dance competitions. He has received accolades at the Wenhua Awards, the National Five One Project Award, the China Dance Lotus Awards for Dance Drama, the CCTV Dance Contest, the Seoul International Dance Competition, Premio Roma Danza (Modern and Contemporary Dance) and the International Choreographic Competition Hannover. In 2018, Li established his own studio to focus on the creation of dance art, exploring different expressions of contemporary theatre, and collaborating with top artists from different fields throughout the world to create a breakthrough arts space with diverse aesthetics.
His representative works as a director and choreographer include TheHotel (2018), ADream ofRedMansions (2021) and TheStation (2022). His repertoire includes DreamSeekers, FromIN, The RailwaytoTibet, Mulan,SilkRoad, TheMoonOpera and ThePastofShawan.

Luo Huaizhen is a renowned contemporary playwright and critic. He has been selected for the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee’s “Batch of Four” talent, receives the State Council’s expert special allowance, and has been awarded the title of “Outstanding Kunqu Playwright” by the former Ministry of Culture. A First-Class Composer and member of the National Musicians’ Association, Zhao Bo graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music. His works have received the 17th National Five One Project Award and the 13th China Dance Lotus Awards for Dance Drama and Contemporary Dance. His representative works include Song Selfless, Chinese dance drama ADreamofRedMansions, the dance piece Bay, The BeginningofSpring from the Beijing Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony and MistandRainOver Jiangnan from the Hangzhou Asian Games Opening Ceremony.

Ren Dongsheng is a First-Class stage designer and Chair of the Stage Design Department at the Beijing Dance Academy. He serves as Executive Deputy Director of the Lighting Committee of the China Institute of Stage Design and Vice-Director of the Beijing Stage Design Committee.

The Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group, a large state-owned cultural enterprise, owns and operates six leading professional performing arts troupes, including the Suzhou Ballet Theatre, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, the Suzhou Song and Dance Theatre, the Suzhou Suzhou Opera Troupe and the Suzhou Wuxi Opera Troupe. The Group manages a number of Suzhou's landmark cultural venues, including the Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre, the Suzhou International Expo Centre, the Suzhou Sports Center and the Kaiming Grand Theatre, and is responsible for the operation of the Suzhou Municipal Cultural Industry Investment Fund.
After years of development, the Group was restructured and officially established on 31 October 2022, and is a municipal-level, firsttier state-owned enterprise of Suzhou. He Sheng Dance Theatre is a vanguard of contemporary stage arts in China. Rooted in Eastern cultural traditions, the company continues to actively explore diverse forms of performance-making worldwide—absorbing their brilliance, essence, and abundance—and transforming them through fusion, renewal and creation. In doing so, it develops works charged with the power to cross-cultural boundaries, sustaining ever-renewing and multifaceted modes of expression, and enabling Chinese dance to be heard on the international stage.
“He” ( 禾 ) evokes the life cycle of grain: a seed sprouting, breaking through the earth, and growing into a full, ripened harvest that sustains all living beings. It mirrors the nature of art—organic and vigorous, boundless and ever-unfolding. Guided by this spirit, He Sheng Dance Theatre creates works that resonate across cultures while remaining true to its roots.

蘇州市歌舞劇院有限公司成立於 1970 年，
2009 年由蘇州市歌舞團改制為企業化管 理，現隸屬於蘇州文化投資發展集團。
蘇州市歌舞劇院始終秉承精品創作理念， 堅持市場運作、多元發展的原則，創作並 演出舞劇、音樂劇、兒童劇精品及具有時 代風貌、民族底蘊、江南風情的音樂、舞 蹈節目，演出足跡遍佈全國。同時，劇院 多次作為文化藝術的友好使者，由政府派 遣出訪美國、法國、日本、新加坡、意大 利、俄羅斯、拉脫維亞、土耳其等國家進 行演出活動，為中國民族歌舞藝術的傳承 與發展和國際間的文化交流貢獻力量。
蘇州市歌舞劇院製作了眾多思想精深、藝 術精湛、製作精良的舞劇作品，如：《干將
與莫邪》、《運．河》，「桃花系列三部曲」
——舞劇《桃花塢》等。
Founded in 1970, the Suzhou Song and Dance Theatre was previously known as the Suzhou Dance Theatre Company, and has been affiliated with the Suzhou Cultural Investment and Development Group since shifting to corporate management in 2009.
Grounded by a dedication to craftsmanship, it operates under the core principles of meeting audience demand and exploring cultural expansion. It presents programmes that embody the essence of Jiangnan across the country, spanning theatre performances, musical theatre and children’s theatre. Officially appointed as cultural arts ambassadors, the theatre has performed in the USA, France, Japan, Singapore, Italy, Russia, Latvia and Turkey, fostering international cultural exchange while preserving China's treasured heritage.
Boasting an elaborate repertoire, its productions include GanJiangandMoYe, TheCanal, Taohuawu in the Peach Blossom Trilogy and more.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a non-profit organisation. Income from ticket sales and government baseline funding can only partially cover the Festival’s costs for presenting and promoting the best performing arts from around the world. The Festival can only continue its work thanks to the generous support of its donors. Please support the Festival Donation Scheme so we can continue to present world-class international and local artists as well as offering diverse outreach and education activities.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Art Development Matching Grants Scheme. Part of the Festival’s sponsorship and donation income will benefit from a dollar-for-dollar match by the Government.* Donations of any amount will make a difference, and are greatly appreciated!
