二零二六年香港藝術節隆重 舉 行,謹此致賀。
今年藝術節邁進第五十四屆,約 180 場演出涵蓋 音樂、戲曲、歌劇、戲劇、舞蹈、藝術科技及 其他表演藝術創作,精彩多元,引人矚目。
藝術節在二月二十七日以西班牙國家舞劇院著 名舞劇《美麗的奧蒂羅》揭開序幕,在舞台重 現巴黎黃金時代的歌舞昇平,別出心裁。三月 二十七日藝術節閉幕以大型舞劇《牡丹亭》為 壓軸演出,呈獻導演兼編舞黎星對經典愛情劇 目的嶄新演繹。今年的音樂節目陣容強大,匯 聚各傑出鋼琴家獻技,有年輕韓國天才鋼琴家 任奫燦,也有榮獲二零二五年范.克萊本國際 大賽金獎及觀 眾 大獎的本地鋼琴家沈靖韜,實 在不容錯過。
一如既往,藝術節包羅繽紛多彩的外展及教育 活動。今年的「加料節目」着重豐富藝術愛好 者的文化體驗,加深對世界級藝術家的認識, 對於啓發更多人參與藝術活動,以至鞏固香港 作為中外文化藝術交流中心的定位,極為重要。

I am pleased to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the organisation of its 2026 season. This year’s Festival, the 54th edition, features some 180 performances, encompassing music, Chinese and Western opera, theatre, dance, arts technology and a dazzling variety of performing arts productions.
The Festival opens on 27 February with Ballet Nacional de España’s acclaimed operatic ballet La Bella Otero , recreating the glamour of Paris’ golden era on stage. The Festival concludes on 27 March with the large-scale dance theatre production DreaminThePeonyPavilion , directed and choreographed by Li Xing, injecting fresh life into the timeless love classic. This year’s music performances present a number of brilliant pianists, including young Korean piano sensation Yunchan Lim, and Hong Kong-born Aristo Sham, the gold medallist and audience award winner at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
As ever, the Festival features a diverse range of outreach and educational activities. This year’s PLUS programme focuses on a wide cultural experience for arts lovers and deeper understanding of world-class artists, contributing to promoting engagement in cultural events and consolidating Hong Kong’s positioning as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

A warm welcome to the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival. As a leading international performing arts event, the Festival continues to uphold its mission of enriching our city’s cultural life and promoting the best of the performing arts to different sectors of our community. This year, the Festival brings to Hong Kong more than 1,100 distinguished local and international artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines in over 180 performances of more than 45 programmes, as well as about 300 “PLUS”, outreach and education events.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the HKSAR Government, acting through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, for its annual subvention and matching grant. My heartfelt thanks also go out to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, our corporate sponsors, charitable foundations and donors for their generous support. Their invaluable contributions empower us to actively advance the community through the performing arts.

第 54 屆香港藝術節雲集眾多大師級藝術家與傑 出團隊,帶來超過 180 場的音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、 歌劇、戲曲、藝術科技與跨界創作節目,展示藝 術家的精湛造詣。

The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival once again brings together great masters and outstanding artists, presenting more than 180 performances across music, dance, theatre, opera, Chinese opera, arts-tech and interdisciplinary creations—showcasing the exceptional craft of leading local and international talent.
One of this year’s themes is an exploration of “Courage and Peace”. At a time when the world is troubled by war, displacement, economic downturns and other hardships, artists respond from their own distinctive perspectives and in their own languages on stage, reminding us of the need to be resilient and hopeful.
Some works in this year’s Festival adopt a minimalistic theatrical approach, enabling us to transcend the constraints of geography and resources. We also continue to embrace arts-tech, using mixed-reality technologies to open up new performance possibilities.
As always, the Festival presents more than 300 outreach and education activities. Our PLUS events feature a curated series of talks, masterclasses, backstage tours and guided cultural walks. Our comprehensive education initiatives tailored for primary, secondary and tertiary students are aimed at enabling students to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the works we present.

, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and in February and March each year.
non-profit organisation. The total income target for FY2025/26 (including the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2026 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$159 million. Current Government annual baseline funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival's total income. The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 250 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas.

香港藝術節 一直大力投資 下一代的藝術教育。「青 少年之友」成立 33 年來,已為約 849,000 位本地中 學生及大專生提供藝術體驗活動。藝術節近年亦開 展多項針對大、中、小學生的藝術教育活動,包括 由國際及本地藝術家主持的示範講座及工作坊、學 生展演、演前講座、公開彩排、以及欣賞藝術節演 出。同時,通過「學生票捐助計劃」,藝術節每年提 供約 10,000 張半價學生票。

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced with GoetheInstitut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and TheTempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake co-commissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber coproduced with San Francisco Opera; Laila , a co-production with Finnish National Opera and Ballet, and 20,000LeaguesUndertheSea , co-produced with The Central Academy of Drama, China, and Compagnie Point Fixe.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 33 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached around 849,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meetthe-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

鋼琴
王致仁
生於香港、現居柏林的鋼琴家王致仁,以 橫跨早期巴羅克到當代音樂的多元曲目, 深受聽眾喜愛。他的首張專輯《李斯特變 奏:歌劇幻想曲》榮獲第40屆李斯特國際 鋼琴大獎。他的第二張專輯則收錄了布梭 尼改編版本的巴赫《哥德堡變奏曲》,他的 第三張專輯與倫敦交響樂團及指揮孔茲一 同錄音,收錄了深受茨伐斯曼與拉威爾影 響的爵士樂作品。
王致仁近期的焦點演出包括首度於柏林音 樂廳、巴黎香榭麗舍劇院亮相,以及分別 於匈牙利及台灣為湯馬士.阿迪斯的鋼琴 協奏曲首演。他與馬庫斯.史坦茲一同為 北京國家大劇院管弦樂團2024年樂季作開 幕演出。
王致仁早年於多個國際音樂節亮相,包括 法國迪納爾國際音樂節、香港藝術節及新 加坡國際鋼琴節,引起國際樂壇關注。他 也是薩爾斯堡莫扎特國際夏季學院的得獎 者,又在倫敦威格摩爾音樂廳進行首次演 出,演奏全李斯特的曲目。
王致仁童年在香港接受音樂教育,十二歲 時移居英國,在倫敦皇家音樂學院師從諾 瑪.費沙和克里斯多夫.艾頓。2021年, 他在利希慎基金會的資助下,完成關於布 梭尼的研究並取得博士學位。
Piano
Chiyan Wong
Born in Hong Kong and based in Berlin, pianist Chiyan Wong has captivated audiences with his repertoire spanning from the early Baroque to contemporary works. His critically acclaimed debut album, Liszt Transfigured:OperaticFantasiesforPiano (LINN Records), won the 40th Franz Liszt International Grand Prix du Disque. His second album was a record of Busoni’s edition of Bach’s GoldbergVariations. His third album, comprising jazz-influenced music by Alexander Tsfasman and Ravel, was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra and Christoph Koncz.
Wong’s recent career highlights include debuts at the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Théâtre des ChampsElysées, as well as the Hungarian and Taiwanese premieres of Thomas Adès’ Piano Concerto. In 2024, he performed at the season-opening concert of the National Centre of Performing Arts Orchestra in Beijing with Markus Stenz.
Wong gained international recognition at festivals such as the International Music Festival of Dinard, the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Singapore International Piano Festival. He was a prize winner at the Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg and debuted at London’s Wigmore Hall with an all-Liszt recital.
He began his musical education in Hong Kong, then moved to England at age 12 to study with Norma Fisher and Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2021, he completed his doctorate on Busoni, supported by the Lee Hysan Foundation.

Cameron Carpenter
Cameron Carpenter, born in 1981 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, is a renowned American organist celebrated for his innovative use of technology and unique touring projects. He was homeschooled until 1992, later attending the American Boychoir School (1993–95) and performing across the USA and Europe. After additional homeschooling, he studied at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and The Juilliard School, earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music and Organ Performance.
Carpenter made history as the first organist nominated for a Grammy Award for his album Revolutionary (2008). He moved to Germany in 2010, where his first organ and orchestra concerto, The Scandal, premiered in 2011. He became the first Organist-in-Residence at the Philharmonie Berlin (2012–13) and signed with Sony Classical in 2013.
In 2014, he debuted the International Touring Organ at the Lincoln Center in New York and has since toured globally. He premiered Terry Riley’s organ concerto AtTheRoyalMajestic and won the ECHO Klassik Award for IfYouCouldReadMyMind (2015). Carpenter created an organ-and-orchestra version of Rachmaninoff’s RhapsodyonaThemeof Paganini and recorded Rachmaninoff’s Paganini for Sony Classical in 2019.

林大葉是一位傑出的指揮家和音樂教育 家,現任深圳交響樂團音樂總監兼首席指
揮、無錫交響樂團藝術總監兼首席指揮以 及中國國家交響樂團特邀指揮,更同時任 職上海音樂學院作曲指揮系教授和香港中 文大學(深圳)音樂學院客座教授。2023
年,林大葉獲任命為深圳市青年音樂家協 會的首位主席,並獲選為「深圳十大傑出 青年」之一。
林大葉曾分別榮獲賀綠汀藝術成果獎,以 及第六屆蘇提爵士國際指揮大賽首獎,成 為歷史上首位問鼎該賽事的中國指揮家。
他早年曾分別在中國和德國學習,並於 2009年獲任命為杭州愛樂樂團駐團指揮, 其後又於2010年擔任廣州交響樂團常任指 揮。林大葉曾帶領深圳交響樂團在歐洲和 北美進行了多次巡迴演出,並獲得國際樂 評界的高度讚賞。

Lin Daye
Lin Daye is a prominent conductor and music educator, serving as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, and a Guest Conductor for the China National Symphony Orchestra. He is a Professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Chinese University of Hong KongShenzhen Conservatory of Music. In 2023, he was appointed as the first Chairman of the Shenzhen Young Musicians Association and recognised as one of Shenzhen’s Top Ten Outstanding Youth.
Lin’s accolades include the He Lüting Art Achievement Award and the first prize at the sixth Sir Georg Solti International Conductors’ Competition in 2012—the first Chinese to win the accolade. His early training involved studying in China and Germany, leading to his role as Resident Conductor of the Hangzhou Philharmonic in 2009 and Permanent Conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra in 2010. His leadership of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra gained international recognition through European and North American tours.
His 2024 UK tour received acclaim for its diverse repertoire. Committed to fostering new talent and expanding audiences, Lin blends traditional and contemporary works and supports new compositions, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Wang Danhong
Wang Danhong, a Professor of Composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and holder of a doctoral degree, is among China’s most accomplished young composers. She has won the Wenhua Award, the Gold Prize at the Huayue Forum and the Best Original Work Award at the CCTV Traditional Instrument Contest. In 2021, she was selected for the National Young Top-Notch Talent Support Programme, with her works designated for national initiatives such as SymphonyoftheTimes and 100Works for100Years. Her compositions, known for their emotional depth, lyrical melodies and majestic style, span traditional Chinese music, symphonies, ballets and film scores.

這首交響樂作品的音樂語言靈動輕盈,節奏明 快而詼諧,既有粵曲的婉轉悠揚,又透出現代 交響的生動磅礴。作品猶如一張徐徐展開的繪 卷,勾勒出鮮活的南國市井生活圖景——茶 樓的熱鬧、街巷的煙火、水鄉的清雅,皆躍然 耳畔。它既是對傳統廣府音樂的致敬,也是一 次中西交融、雅俗共賞的音樂嘗試,恍若一幅 色彩明麗、聲情並茂的嶺南民俗風情畫。

Rooted in rich melancholic Lingnan aesthetics, the symphonic work SouthernRadiance ingeniously incorporates musical elements from ThunderinaDrought and AutumnMoonOver aPlacidLake, among other classic Cantonese pieces, putting an inventive twist on the layered tapestry of harmonious orchestral playing.
The music is fleetingly nimble and light, and the rhythm is lively and witty, allowing a subtle taste of Cantonese operatic music to shine through without compromising the vibrant grandiosity of the modern orchestral music. The work paints a vivid portrait of the Southern way of life: the bustling teahouse, the busy alleyway, the tranquillity and poignance of villages all come to life through these “scrolls” of music. Paying homage to traditional Cantonese music, it’s a daring musical achievement that combines East and West to synthesise a refined but grounded piece. Enjoy this radiant and dynamic work of art that showcases the beauty of Lingnan folk culture.

李察.史特勞斯自幼在父親法蘭茲.史特 勞斯的薰陶下成長。身為慕尼黑宮廷樂團 首席圓號手的法蘭茲培育了兒子早期的創 作熱情,而李察一系列早期作品,很快便 引起指揮家畢羅的注意。雖然畢羅起初也 對他的才華滿有懷疑,但很快就被這位少 年為十三支木管而作的小夜曲俘虜,更稱 之為布拉姆斯的有力繼承人。
1885年,畢羅邀請李察擔任邁寧根樂團的 助理指揮。這支樂團水準極高,甚至引來 布拉姆斯本人親臨排練,並指導樂團首演 其第四交響曲。這段學徒生涯,也令史特 勞斯脫胎換骨,成為同輩當中最傑出的指 揮家之一。
Richard Strauss grew up under the imposing influence of his father, Franz Strauss, the celebrated principal horn of Munich’s Court Orchestra. Franz fostered his son’s early compositional ambitions, which soon drew the attention of conductor Hans von Bülow. Initially sceptical, Bülow was won over by the teenager’s Serenade for 13 Wind Instruments and declared Strauss a worthy successor to Brahms.
In 1885, Bülow invited him to serve as Assistant Conductor with his superb Meiningen Orchestra—an ensemble so refined that Brahms himself appeared to rehearse its premiere of his Fourth Symphony. The apprenticeship transformed Strauss into one of the finest conductors of his generation.
Bülow, also a virtuoso pianist, had premièred Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto in 1875. Strauss conceived what became Burleske as a lively, single-movement work in the spirit of a scherzo—a fast, playful form often used in symphonies—intended to display the pianist’s brilliance and humour as a tribute to his mentor. But the piece’s extravagant technical hurdles— especially its massive chordal stretches— irritated Bülow, who dismissed it as “too bombastic and Lisztian”. Burleske demanded more virtuosity than Strauss could supply himself, and the manuscript from 1885-86 was shelved until the Liszt pupil Eugen d’Albert offered to perform it several years later, in 1890. For that occasion, Strauss revised and retitled the score Burleske—from the Italian burlesco, meaning a parody or farce.

Opening with a striking dialogue between piano and timpani, the Burleske soon reveals a teasingly mercurial spirit. Its darting chromatic runs and supple three-note motif trace a kaleidoscope of moods: the soloist veers from impish bravura to lyrical introspection. Rich orchestration frames a single-movement concerto whose high drama and witty final duel between piano and timpani show Strauss paying affectionate, irreverent tribute to the Brahmsian world he was already outgrowing.

If Strauss’ Burleske reflects the piano’s 19th-century prominence—at once the centrepiece of music-making in the domestic sphere and a brilliant vehicle for solo display within the symphony orchestra’s public realm— Joseph Jongen’s Symphonie Concertante reminds us that the organ, its monumental elder sibling with a formidable heritage of its own, offered a different but equally commanding arena for virtuosity and grandeur.
Together, these two works illustrate strikingly different conceptions of the Western concerto tradition: Strauss sets the piano in quick, witty dialogue with the orchestra in a compact, scherzo-like design, while Jongen expands the idea into a vast symphonic structure in which the organ rivals the orchestra in colour and power.
Jongen was a Belgian composer, organist and pedagogue who combined the solid contrapuntal discipline perfected by compatriot César Franck with an ear for French colour. In 1897, he travelled through Germany, Italy and France, encountering Strauss and absorbing new stylistic currents— from Brahms and the German tradition to French Impressionism.
The Symphonie Concertante was composed in 1926 for the vast Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia—an instrument originally built in 1904 and recently enlarged into the world’s largest playable pipe organ at the time, with more than 28,000 pipes.
Jongen’s score was commissioned to inaugurate the organ in its restored splendour, with Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra, but the plan was delayed by several unforeseen circumstances, and the premiere took place instead in Brussels in 1928, with Jongen himself conducting and Charles Courboin as the organ soloist. The long-intended performance on the Wanamaker Organ for which the piece had been envisioned finally took place in 2008.

樂章則是一首俏皮的嬉遊曲,縱然身處宏 大的編制當中,依然不失輕快靈動。
接下來的樂章(極緩板。神祕的緩板)滲透
出德布西的音樂色彩:不論是印象派的和 聲,抑或是明麗的管弦織體,都彷彿把時間 凝固,並營造出一種延綿不息的旖旎詩意。
容根選擇將最激揚的一些樂思留給了結尾 的恆動曲。作曲家以觸技曲開局,透過這 個管風琴傳統中的招牌炫技曲式,釋放流 淌不止的律動與能量。管弦樂團亦隨之加 入,將《交響協奏曲》推向燦爛的尾聲。
是次演出使用的香港文化中心音樂廳管風 琴,它將成為這次音樂會的「第二樂團」,
在豐沛的管弦樂對話之中,讚頌「樂器之 王」的力量、詩意與音域。

SymphonieConcertante was composed for the Wanamaker organ, which debuted in the 1904 St Louis World’s Fair
This four-movement score stands as a towering 20th-century landmark for organ and orchestra. The organ’s outsize presence in the Symphonie Concertante was likened to a “second orchestra” by the famed violinist Eugène Ysaÿe, a fellow Belgian. The organist acts as both soloist and equal partner, participating in a dialogue with the orchestra that conjures a world of imposing scale yet unexpected delicacy. The first movement (Allegro, molto moderato) opens, unusually, with a fugal exposition—a nod to Franck’s contrapuntal rigour, while a playful Divertimento follows, light on its feet despite the forces involved.
The long slow movement (Molto lento. Lento misterioso) shimmers with Debussyan colour: Impressionist harmonies and luminous orchestral textures create an aura of suspended time and blissfully sustained lyricism.
Jongen reserves some of his most electrifying writing for the perpetual-motion finale. It bursts from the gate with a Toccata—a virtuosic showpiece in the organ tradition, all ceaseless motion and cascading energy. The orchestra joins in exuberant partnership, driving the Symphonie Concertante to a resplendent close.
In this performance, the majestic organ of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall serves as Jongen’s mighty “second orchestra”, completing a programme that celebrates the power, poetry and range of the keyboard in full orchestral dialogue.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is regarded as one of the leading orchestras in Asia. Collaborating with internationally renowned conductors and soloists, the orchestra presents more than 150 concerts annually, attracting more than 200,000 music lovers. The HK Phil promotes the work of composers from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the world, commissions new works, nurtures local talent, and runs extensive education and community programmes. Tarmo Peltokoski is the HK Phil’s Music Director Designate in 2025/26 and will become Music Director in the 2026/27 season. Currently, Long Yu serves as Principal Guest Conductor and Lio Kuokman is Resident Conductor. Esa-Pekka Salonen is Composer-in-Residence.
The HK Phil has flourished during the past two decades under Jaap van Zweden (Music Director, 2012–24) and Edo de Waart (Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, 2004–12). In 2019, the HK Phil won the prestigious Gramophone Orchestra of the Year Award—the first orchestra in Asia to receive the prestigious accolade from the UK classical music magazine. Its notable recent recording projects include Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle, Mahler’s Symphony No 10, Shostakovich’s Symphony No 10, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 6 and Piano Concerto No 1.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a non-profit organisation. Income from ticket sales and government baseline funding can only partially cover the Festival’s costs for presenting and promoting the best performing arts from around the world. The Festival can only continue its work thanks to the generous support of its donors. Please support the Festival Donation Scheme so we can continue to present world-class international and local artists as well as offering diverse outreach and education activities.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Art Development Matching Grants Scheme. Part of the Festival’s sponsorship and donation income will benefit from a dollar-for-dollar match by the Government.* Donations of any amount will make a difference, and are greatly appreciated!
