二零二六年香港藝術節隆重 舉 行，謹此致賀。
今年藝術節邁進第五十四屆，約 180 場演出涵蓋 音樂、戲曲、歌劇、戲劇、舞蹈、藝術科技及 其他表演藝術創作，精彩多元，引人矚目。
藝術節在二月二十七日以西班牙國家舞劇院著 名舞劇《美麗的奧蒂羅》揭開序幕，在舞台重 現巴黎黃金時代的歌舞昇平，別出心裁。三月 二十七日藝術節閉幕以大型舞劇《牡丹亭》為 壓軸演出，呈獻導演兼編舞黎星對經典愛情劇 目的嶄新演繹。今年的音樂節目陣容強大，匯 聚各傑出鋼琴家獻技，有年輕韓國天才鋼琴家 任奫燦，也有榮獲二零二五年范．克萊本國際 大賽金獎及觀 眾 大獎的本地鋼琴家沈靖韜，實 在不容錯過。
一如既往，藝術節包羅繽紛多彩的外展及教育 活動。今年的「加料節目」着重豐富藝術愛好 者的文化體驗，加深對世界級藝術家的認識， 對於啓發更多人參與藝術活動，以至鞏固香港 作為中外文化藝術交流中心的定位，極為重要。

I am pleased to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the organisation of its 2026 season. This year’s Festival, the 54th edition, features some 180 performances, encompassing music, Chinese and Western opera, theatre, dance, arts technology and a dazzling variety of performing arts productions.
The Festival opens on 27 February with Ballet Nacional de España’s acclaimed operatic ballet La Bella Otero , recreating the glamour of Paris’ golden era on stage. The Festival concludes on 27 March with the large-scale dance theatre production DreaminThePeonyPavilion , directed and choreographed by Li Xing, injecting fresh life into the timeless love classic. This year’s music performances present a number of brilliant pianists, including young Korean piano sensation Yunchan Lim, and Hong Kong-born Aristo Sham, the gold medallist and audience award winner at the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.
As ever, the Festival features a diverse range of outreach and educational activities. This year’s PLUS programme focuses on a wide cultural experience for arts lovers and deeper understanding of world-class artists, contributing to promoting engagement in cultural events and consolidating Hong Kong’s positioning as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.

A warm welcome to the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival. As a leading international performing arts event, the Festival continues to uphold its mission of enriching our city’s cultural life and promoting the best of the performing arts to different sectors of our community. This year, the Festival brings to Hong Kong more than 1,100 distinguished local and international artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines in over 180 performances of more than 45 programmes, as well as about 300 “PLUS”, outreach and education events.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the HKSAR Government, acting through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, for its annual subvention and matching grant. My heartfelt thanks also go out to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, our corporate sponsors, charitable foundations and donors for their generous support. Their invaluable contributions empower us to actively advance the community through the performing arts.
My genuine appreciation goes to all our internationally renowned and most talented artists for their creativity and outstanding performances on stage. 第 54 屆香港藝術節雲集眾多大師級藝術家與傑 出團隊，帶來超過 180 場的音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、 歌劇、戲曲、藝術科技與跨界創作節目，展示藝 術家的精湛造詣。
今年的其中一個主題，是對「勇氣與和平」的探 索。當全球都因為戰亂、流離、經濟下行等苦難 感到焦躁不安，藝術家以獨特的視角與語言，在 舞台上交織出對世界的回應，提醒我們抱持堅毅 與希望。
此外，今屆藝術節部分作品採用了簡約的戲劇手 法，讓我們擺脫地域與資源的限制。我們亦繼續 擁抱藝術科技，利用混合實景技術，開拓新的表 演效果。

The 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival once again brings together great masters and outstanding artists, presenting more than 180 performances across music, dance, theatre, opera, Chinese opera, arts-tech and interdisciplinary creations—showcasing the exceptional craft of leading local and international talent.
One of this year’s themes is an exploration of “Courage and Peace”. At a time when the world is troubled by war, displacement, economic downturns and other hardships, artists respond from their own distinctive perspectives and in their own languages on stage, reminding us of the need to be resilient and hopeful.
Some works in this year’s Festival adopt a minimalistic theatrical approach, enabling us to transcend the constraints of geography and resources. We also continue to embrace arts-tech, using mixed-reality technologies to open up new performance possibilities.
As always, the Festival presents more than 300 outreach and education activities. Our PLUS events feature a curated series of talks, masterclasses, backstage tours and guided cultural walks. Our comprehensive education initiatives tailored for primary, secondary and tertiary students are aimed at enabling students to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the works we present.

, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and in February and March each year.
non-profit organisation. The total income target for FY2025/26 (including the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2026 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$159 million. Current Government annual baseline funding accounts for around 12% of the Festival's total income. Around 24% of the Festival’s income needs to be generated from the box office, and around 44% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 20% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching grant scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations. The HKAF actively collaborates with Hong Kong’s own creative talent and showcases emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 250 local productions across genres including Cantonese opera, theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance, many with successful subsequent runs in Hong Kong and overseas.

The HKAF frequently partners with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional works, such as Der Fensterputzer (The Window Washer) co-produced with GoetheInstitut Hong Kong and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; Richard III and TheTempest produced by The Old Vic, BAM and Neal Street under “The Bridge Project” with the HKAF as a co-commissioning institution; Green Snake co-commissioned with Shanghai International Arts Festival; Dream of the Red Chamber coproduced with San Francisco Opera; Laila , a co-production with Finnish National Opera and Ballet, and 20,000LeaguesUndertheSea , co-produced with The Central Academy of Drama, China, and Compagnie Point Fixe.
The HKAF invests heavily in arts education for young people. Over the past 33 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached around 849,000 local secondary and tertiary school students. A variety of arts education projects serving primary, secondary and tertiary school students have been launched in recent years, featuring activities such as student showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, opportunities to attend Festival performances, as well as in-school workshops and lecture demonstrations led by international and local artists. Donations to the “Student Ticket Scheme” also make available approximately 10,000 halfprice student tickets each year.
The HKAF organises a diverse range of “Festival PLUS” activities in community locations each year to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include films, lecture demonstrations, masterclasses, workshops, symposia, backstage visits, exhibitions, meetthe-artist sessions and guided cultural tours.
The HKAF actively promotes inclusion via the arts to every corner of the community. The “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, was launched in 2019. Through a series of performances and diverse arts experiences for students and the community, “No Limits” strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

特雷弗．平諾克

Trevor Pinnock
Trevor Pinnock is a world-renowned harpsichordist and conductor who helped pioneer the modern revival of Early Music on period instruments. In 1972 he founded the English Concert, whose groundbreaking performances led to a long Deutsche Grammophon contract and international tours. In 2023 DG celebrated the English Concert’s 50th anniversary with a 100disc box set of its complete recordings. Pinnock’s notable solo records include Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Partitas and TheWell-Tempered Clavier
In 2003 Pinnock stepped down from the English Concert’s leadership and has since split his time among conducting, solo and chamber music. He regularly works with the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. He also performs chamber programmes with Emmanuel Pahud and Jonathan Manson in Europe and China, and revisits The English Concert.
Pinnock is Artistic Director of the Anima Mundi Festival in Pisa and Principal Conductor of the Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra, Tokyo, and the Royal Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra, London. He was awarded a CBE in 1992.

艾曼紐．帕胡德
艾曼紐．帕胡德的一生與旅行及其長笛天 賦密不可分，年幼時他隨家人輾轉在多國
逗留，先後於巴格達、巴黎、馬德里和羅 馬生活。他八歲時定居布魯塞爾，在當地 受到莫扎特的第一長笛協奏曲啟發，開始 跟隨弗朗索瓦．比奈等老師學習長笛。

Emmanuel Pahud
Emmanuel Pahud’s life has been defined by travel and prodigious talent on the flute. Born into a migratory family, he lived in Baghdad, Paris, Madrid and Rome before settling in Brussels at eight. There he began flute studies with teachers such as François Binet, inspired by Mozart’s Flute Concerto No 1.
After finishing school in Paris, he attended the Conservatoire de Paris and claimed top prizes at competitions in Duino (1988) and Kobe (1989), and placed second at Scheveningen (1988). He now enjoys an extensive international career as soloist and chamber musician and, aged 22, joined the Berliner Philharmoniker as Principal Flute, a position he still holds today.
He appears regularly in concert series, festivals and with orchestras worldwide, and previously collaborated with conductors such as Pierre Boulez and Sir Simon Rattle. In 1993, he founded the Salon de Provence Festival with Eric Le Sage and Paul Meyer, and has remained committed to expanding the flute repertoire by performing new commissions.
Pahud records exclusively for Warner Classics and has received the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to music, is an honourary member of the Royal Academy of Music, an Ambassador for UNICEF and the recipient of the Léonie Sonning Music Prize for 2024.

Jonathan Manson
Jonathan Manson is a busy performer on cello and viola da gamba. Born in Edinburgh to a musical family, he trained at the International Cello Centre with Jane Cowan, then at the Eastman School of Music with Steven Doane and Christel Thielmann. A passion for early music drew him to Holland to study viola da gamba with Wieland Kuijken at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.
For 10 years he was Principal Cello with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, performing and recording extensively, including Bach cantatas and Vivaldi’s double cello concerto with Yo-Yo Ma. Today he concentrates on chamber music, spanning the Renaissance to Romantic repertoire. He is a founding member of the viol consort Phantasm, which has earned Gramophone awards in 1997, 2004 and 2017. He also plays cello with the London Haydn Quartet. Tours in recent seasons have covered Australia, Japan, Canada and the USA.
His long-standing collaboration with Trevor Pinnock has yielded acclaimed Bach sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord, and, with Rachel Podger, Rameau’s Pièces de clavecin en concert. He teaches Baroque cello and viola da gamba at the Royal Academy of Music in London and regularly guest lectures at Guildhall School of Music, the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban in London, and other institutions.

Flute Sonata in E minor, BWV1034
1723 年，巴赫開始在萊比錫工作，直至 1750 年與世長辭為止。他的許多室樂作品 都在這段日子寫成；雖然當中大部分很可 能已經散佚，但流傳下來的，也一如巴赫 其他作品，每首都是珠玉之作。
E 小調奏鳴曲採用通奏低音，在巴赫的時 代通常會使用古鍵琴與古提琴（現今用大 提琴）為獨奏長笛伴奏。古鍵琴低音聲部 與提琴重疊，而且樂譜上附有「數字低 音」，也就是樂譜的低音聲部下方，註有 代表所用和弦的記號。古鍵琴手會跟隨這 些標示，在彈奏時自行酌情補足其他聲 部。此外，數字低音的使用也反映出樂曲 的織體特色是以最高和最低聲部為主。

Bach worked in Leipzig from 1723 until his death in 1750 and much of his chamber music comes from this time. It is likely that a great deal of this sort of music has been lost, but what remains is of the usual magnificent quality.
The Sonata in E minor is one with continuo, that is, flute with accompaniment from harpsichord and viola da gamba (or cello in modern days). The bass part, doubled by the viola da gamba/cello, is figured, which means that the harpsichordist, following the notations under the bass notes indicating the harmonies required, is free to flesh the part out as they see fit. It also means that at all times the important lines are the top and the bottom.
The sonata opens with expressive lines from the flute over a mainly slow-marching bass, and the second movement is a high-stepping dance. The Andante is in G Major with a melody over a repeated eight-bar bass, which becomes free in the middle in E minor and B minor before returning to the opening G Major. The final 3/4 Allegro plays around with the basic motifs for a lively finish.

Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in D minor, BWV903
Written during Bach’s time at Köthen, from 1717–23, Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue in D minor is unique in the composer’s oeuvre. There are many fugues preceded by formal structures, but while there are what sound like improvisatory moments in some of his keyboard works, nowhere else can such a movement as this Fantasia be found. It is a wonderful exploration of the keyboard and of how far the modulations can travel from the starting point.
Beginning in the manner of a toccata, it moves into a series of chromatically modulating arpeggiated chords before a recitative, again involving much chromatic movement. Finally a pedal-point D draws the movement to an end.
The Fugue subject is also chromatic in its first four bars, and then firmly in D minor. The Fugue is yet another magnificent example of the genre by Bach, possibly the greatest master of this art, and provides a fine sense of stability after the harmonic and other wildness of the Fantasia.

Telemann was an extraordinary musician and the most prolific composer of his time, producing more than 3,000 works during his life. At the age of 10 he studied singing and had lessons on the keyboard for two weeks with an organist, and taught himself the recorder, violin and zither. He began to transcribe various musical works and by these means learned the art of composition. He began with arias and motets, and by the age of 12 had written an opera. It was at this time that his mother, who did not wish him to become a professional musician, confiscated his musical instruments and forbade him to have any further part in musical life. Undaunted, the young man borrowed instruments and practised secretly, and of course continued to compose. His outstanding talent was quickly noticed by various teachers and he soon became a professional musician. Among his long list of compositions are the 12 Fantasias for unaccompanied flute, which were published in Hamburg in 1732–33. Other pieces with the same title include 36 for the harpsichord, 12 for unaccompanied violin and 12 for the unaccompanied viola da gamba.
The Fantasia No 10 in F-sharp minor is a relatively short work in which the first movement produces long lines that incorporate both expressive melody and supporting harmonies in subtle ways. The Presto is a fun movement, skipping merrily along, while the final one presents a slowish and somewhat solemn dance. In common with all of Telemann’s output, it is filled with invention and individuality.

Johann Sebastian Bach Flute Sonata in B minor, BWV1030
Flute Sonata in B minor is a work in which the instruments are equal partners. The harpsichord part is fully written out for both hands, and figured bass is dispensed with as obviously not needed. It was written around 1736. The Andante is a substantial, aria-like movement, with the instruments sharing all the material and making a wonderful conversation out of it. In the second movement the highly decorated flute part is supported by full chords from the keyboard. There’s lots of energy and fun in the alla breve Presto and it leads into the final splendid dance in 12/16, joyful although in the minor key.

緩慢莊重，旋律線帶有典型的華麗裝飾； 〈庫朗特舞曲〉則生氣勃勃；舒緩的〈薩拉 班德舞曲〉宛如沉思，數個多弦音運用得 十分巧妙；兩首〈小步舞曲〉再度起舞， 樂曲旋律性較強，第二首以小調調性寫 成，略顯哀傷；最後的〈吉格舞曲〉活潑 燦爛，彷彿憑空召喚出一群活力充沛的舞 者。
Johann Sebastian Bach Cello Suite No 1 in G Major, BWV1007
Written at Köthen, the six suites for unaccompanied cello, along with the partitas and sonatas for the unaccompanied violin, are astounding examples of what a master can do with limited resources. With only the four strings of the instruments and the four fingers on the strings and bow of the player, Bach creates an extraordinary world of emotion and colour.
Cello Suite No 1 in G Major is generally sunny and bright, but of course has its moments when the light dims and more sombre thoughts appear. Naturally, the sun wins the day. Arpeggiated chords and expressive scales form the basis of the Prelude, in some ways reminiscent of the first prelude of the 48 Preludes and Fugues. There follow a series of dances. The Allemande is slow and stately, with a typically highly decorated melodic line and the Courante dances along in a lively manner. The Sarabande, slow and thoughtful, makes fine use of multiple stoppings and the following Menuets dance again. Both Menuets present mainly a melodic line, the second one a bit plaintive in the minor. The final Gigue is splendidly vigorous, conjuring up a crowd of energetic dancers.
巴赫 E大調長笛奏鳴曲，BWV1035

Johann Sebastian Bach Flute Sonata in E Major, BWV1035
Bach’s son Carl Philipp Emanuel was appointed harpsichordist to King Frederick the Great in 1740 and Bach visited him that same year. King Frederick was a keen flute player, and J.S. wrote this E Major Sonata while on his visit, but it is dedicated to Michael Gabriel Fredersdorf, who was the King’s valet and personal assistant, and also a flute player.
This sonata, like the E minor, BWV1034 one, is for flute with continuo. The flute has a highly decorated melodic part in the opening Adagio ma non tanto and the following Allegro with its very distinctive beginning dances along somewhat like a Rigaudon. The Siciliana in a gently swaying 6/8 is in C-sharp minor, with plenty of imitation between the flute and the bass. The last movement again dances, a bit like a Polonaise, and contains many fun rhythmic moments, to make for a happy conclusion.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a non-profit organisation. Income from ticket sales and government baseline funding can only partially cover the Festival’s costs for presenting and promoting the best performing arts from around the world. The Festival can only continue its work thanks to the generous support of its donors. Please support the Festival Donation Scheme so we can continue to present world-class international and local artists as well as offering diverse outreach and education activities.
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is a recipient of the HKSAR Government’s Art Development Matching Grants Scheme. Part of the Festival’s sponsorship and donation income will benefit from a dollar-for-dollar match by the Government.* Donations of any amount will make a difference, and are greatly appreciated!
