August 18-October 30, 2026
Reception: August 27th | 4-6 PM Film Screening: Portfolios: Lloyd Menard September 17 | 4pm Presented in conjunction with a screening of the documentary, “Portfolios: Lloyd Menard”, Ink Networks focuses on the work and legacy of Lloyd Menard, a prolific printermaker who founded the University of South Dakota-Vermillion Printmaking Department in 1972 and later Frogman’s Print Workshop in 1979, one of the United States most well-known printmaking workshops. In Ink Networks, several works by Menard are on view alongside work by Mauricio Lasansky, and Warrington Colescott, artists who played a key role in re-establishing printmaking as a vital artistic practice in the Midwest. These are paired with works by Menard’s contemporaries and the younger generations of artists he has inspired and taught, resulting in an exhibition that celebrates the significant role printmaking has played in the midwest since 1945, and the artists who continue to shape its trajectory.
Mapping the City | Gallery X
September 24 – October 30, 2026
Reception: Thursday September 24 | 4-6 pm In May, 17 students from Hite traveled to Venice, Italy, for a two-week intensive study abroad program. While abroad, students participated in several workshops utilizing old and new artistic methods to create a series of monotypes, stereoscopic images, time lapse videos, and photographs created from camera obscuras. Largely collaborative, the work on display in “Mapping the City” represents the student’s shared study abroad experience documenting how they created and explored in a foreign space. This exhibition showcases how artists create new work in an unfamiliar environment that represents how a new place can be traversed and understood.

Over Yonder: Queer Rural Utopias
Cressman Center
July 10-August 29, 2026
Poetry Reading and Closing Reception: Friday August 28, 2026 | time TBA Placing Appalachia center stage, Over Yonder: Queer Rural Utopias brings together contemporary artists and poets, alongside archival ephemera from the Faulkner-Morgan Archive, who lean into the inherent queerness of rural spaces. A multi-media show, this exhibition highlights moments of queer potentiality past and present, exploring the ways queer folks are finding joy in spaces commonly seen through a one-sided view of hostility. From handwritten poems and 1990’s archival photography, to abstract pastel drawings and quilted wall hangings, the work presented in Over Yonder give viewers glimpses of personal utopias found in small towns and hollers, showing that the grass is not always greener on the other side, but instead can be found in one’s own backyard. Curated by Gray Koesters (Hite MA 2026)
Labyrinths: David Helm Sept. 11 – October 31, 2026
Reception: Friday Sept. 11 | 5-7pm Artist Talk: Saturday Sept. 12 | 3pm
In Labyrinths, a series of photographs document temporary large-scale drawings of the Chartres labyrinth, drawn on beaches between high and low tides using simple handmade tools. Begun during a difficult period in the artists life, the practice has become an ongoing encounter with care and loss. David Helm is a fifth-generation Louisvillian, a graduate of the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, and director of Studio Jelly in Portland, Oregon.
