Distinct Characteristics: Large smooth leaves up to 30cm long, Grayish brown trunk/branches, Red flowers, Green leaves, Greenish-yellow fruit Ecological Importance: The pawpaws fruit is a common segment of many animals diets, as well as having cancer preventing properties and being effective in fighting malaria. It’s large leaves protect insects from predators. Indigenous Perspective: The pawpaws fruit was used for food, it’s bark was used for rope, string, and lacing, it’s wood was used for firestarting, and its leaves were used for medicinal purposes
