General announcements: The dining and events for December were a success and enabled us to upgrade carpeting as well as other items in the main building during 2024. We've additionally started receiving signed contracts for large monthly association luncheons and evening meetings but appreciate any affiliated groups that members belong to being referred to Chance and Abe for continued sales growth in our F & B area of the club As recent as December there was an article about the quality of the food upgrades and facilities in the Avalanche Journal. Affirmation for Chef Abe and his staff as we look forward to even more accolades in 2025, and upgrades to our dining furnishings and flatware and serving accessories.
We will continue our 1/2 off initiation fees for new members that may want to join between January and February. If you have friends or families or corporate businesses that are considering moving to our golf course, please let them know this is a limited offer on initiation fees. The weather can be unpredictable in these months but the ability to join in these months could be a great deal if we have the sort of warm playing days we've had in December this year.
Golf course improvements are moving ahead. Hopefully many have seen Bubba Atchley in the excavator helping us tear down the old hills on the west side of #6 and by the lake. The hills were pretty much of little value ( blocking the view from the top of #7 tee box-of the lake) and we additionally had lots of worn places that the dirt could be used to cover roots, rocks, and low spots all over the golf course. Don't worry-some have expressed anxiety about the white caliche in areas we will cover those with top soil by the end of January and we are preparing to order the hydro mulch materials and seed to attempt to grow grass in these areas that have not seen grass for probably 10 years-or ever.
Sand traps and low pockets in some of the fairways as well will be tackled during these cold months so we are prepared to either sod those areas or growth grass with the hydra seeding process as well. I believe there will be a day in the next year where the fairways will be even and lush in the middle of some of those such as #4, #6, and others that have needed these dealt with for a long time.
Great Golf, Great food, Great People- we need to talk about this in Lubbock and get this club to the level that it has always had the "ability-good bones" to achieve. A sincere thanks to everyone that has already paid your annual dues for 2025, it not only saves money on your dues for the year but it also allows us to purchase many things ahead of the busy season.

DIRECTOR OF GOLF
With New Products coming out in March, just remember we have demos in most new products. If you would like to hit the new clubs, get with myself or Stephen for a fitting at the JD Dickerson Learning Center. (fittings are free if clubs are purchased through HCC). Please feel free to give us a call.
Just a reminder.
Tee times will begin, and the Pro Shop will be opening at 9:00 AM and closing at 6:00 PM until daylight savings time begins. We would also like to remind you on Saturdays and Sundays, due to shorter days and freezing temperatures, we may be using split tee or shotgun starts in order to get more players on the golf course.
Stephen Gage
We hope everyone here at Hillcrest had a great year. As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the golf shop. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2025! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

MAINTENCE/SUPERINTENDENTLETTER
As we head into the New Year, I would like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome as Superintendent. 2024 was a tough year but I feel we are heading into the new year in a good place. We have begun work on bunkers and moving lots of dirt around the course. Please try to avoid areas where we have moved dirt, especially around greens so we do not get mud tracked all over the greens. There will be new areas with rope put up, please stay out of these areas. Why is there rope around 5 and 15 greens? The geese were tearing up the greens and the rope has kept them off the greens, they will probably be up through February.
Despite the warmer temperatures we are still in the middle of winter and will continue to have delays in opening due to cold weather. I will always get the course opened as quickly as possible but not until the greens are completely ready for play. I stay in touch with the Pro Shop so they will know when the course is expected to be open.
I have been asked about cups and tees not being changed as often, depending on the amount of play they may stay the same for a couple of days. This is to save as much turf as possible with the grass not recovering this time of year. The same for mowing and rolling, we mow once a week and try to roll at least twice. Hillcrest is moving in a great direction in all areas so please come out and enjoy all aspects of the club.
