Netball Club
Overview:
Hillcrest Christian College is proud to be the first Gold Coast School to enter their teams in to the Saturday Morning Hinterland District Netball Association (HDNA) competition. This Club began in 2016 with 4 teams engaging students from Prep to Year 5, with the program nearly doubling in size in 2017 with 7 teams engaging students from Prep to Year 6. In 2018 the Hillcrest Netball Club will enter the Senior Learning Community and over the next few years, be available to all students from Prep to Year 12.
2018 registrations have to done online through the Mynetball page (except for 7’s) Full payment will only be accepted – No deposits or part payments. Full payment is to be paid at Accounts or online by going to the Parent Lounge or clicking here. U7 – U10 – Teams will be announced at the end of Term 1 once registration and payment is made. U11 – U12, teams will be announced after grading. Students have to be registered and full payment received for them to participate in pre-season squad & grading. We can only place your child in a team once payment has been received. If payment is not made your child will not be allowed to take the court as they will not be insured. ** Late registrations will only be if there is a vacancy in an appropriate team ** Refer to the Code of Conduct below. Print and ensure all parties who are involved with understand their responsibilities.
NetSetGo is the only introductory program for netball at HDNA. It has been developed by Netball Australia to provide children from 5 – 10 yrs with the best possible introduction to the sport of netball. NET – 5 & 6 yrs (born 2012 & 2013) This is run through Sparks and not officially through our Saturday Club. We have found younger players flourish in our afterschool program and find Saturday overwhelming. It also means they don’t need to buy a uniform! Thus, please refer to Sparks information. SET - 7, 8, yrs (born 2010 & 2011) Non-Competitive Children play all positions on a rotational basis. Adjusted rules for 7’s transition to full rules by 9’s apply however there is NO official (or unofficial) scoring and hoops are adjusted height! This is to encourage the children to focus on developing their skills – not winning games. *** If there is not enough 7’s to make a team they will join the NET program after school. GO – 9, 10 yrs (born 2008, 2009) Non-Competitive Children play all positions on a rotational basis moving to coaches playing in most suited positions. Full rules on hard court but NO official (or unofficial) scoring! This is to encourage the children to focus on developing their skills – not winning games.

Juniors Competitive Competition with Full Rules JUNIORS - 11 & 12yrs (born 2006, 2007) Children will be graded to ensure fair, safe and fun netball. All Juniors will be required to attend pre-season squad training and grading sessions where the teams will be determined by independent graders. Timeline:

Duration:
The HDNA competition runs from the middle of Term 1 until September each year. Games do not occur during school holidays and from U11s students have the ability to progress to Finals, which will extend the duration of their season.
Uniforms:
The Club uniform are to be worn to all games when competing as part or representing Hillcrest Netball. Netball uniforms are purchased through our club (not the uniform shop) and order forms are available on the Parent Lounge or by contacting the Sports Department. The registered uniform consists of: • Red Hillcrest Club A-line dress Optional pieces: Red Hillcrest visor, Drink Bottle, Bag It is a HDNA requirement that all players are in correct uniform. The girls will be required to wear plain navy or red bike pants. Failure to wear correct uniform may mean exclusion from a game. Earrings, watches, jewellery and piercings of any kind CANNOT be worn and CANNOT be taped.
Training:
All Club teams train before/after school under the direct guidance of a Volunteer Coach. Teams generally train alongside other teams of similar/same age.

Juniors 11 -12 yrs
$250 (including pre-season and finals)
The fees cover the club costs, HDNA registration and umpire fees. Presentation:
At the conclusion of the season, all teams will have a Presentation event that celebrates the achievements of the year and involvement of each child.

Umpires:
Those aged 13 years and over are also encouraged to undertake the basic umpire training course provided by HDNA. An umpire development pathway is clearly laid out by HDNA and those who are interested can proceed through to a nationally recognised umpiring qualification. The Club is required to provide umpires to HDNA to assist with the running of the competition. The club supports interest from players, siblings, parents or others in becoming umpires. Cheryl Turnbull, qualified umpire, works alongside anyone interested in becoming an umpire. Please contact us if you or your daughter (or sibling or friend) are keen to be involved in umpiring.
Coaches / Managers:
All our coaches and managers are volunteers. We welcome parents to express interest in coaching and will equip coaches with resources, training and support. We understanding it is a huge commitment, but one with great reward of seeing young girls passionate netball, growing in confidence and building friendships.
JNR Coach
Those aged 11 years and over are welcome to assist the team coaches with the NETSETGO teams. This is an excellent pathway to umpiring and coaching in the future. We welcome players to express interest in junior coaching and will equip junior coaches with resources, training and support.
Training
NET-SET-GO Term 1 there is no training but we strongly encourage players to register for Sparks, Flames & FDP as excellent pre-season development. 7’s – Tuesdays 3.15pm-4.00pm (Grass near spider tower) 8’s & 9’s – Thursday 3.15pm-4.15pm (Outdoor courts) 10’s – Tuesdays 3.15pm-4.15pm (Outdoor courts) JUNIORS Squad Training will begin with Term 1, week 3 with grading sessions mid-term. 11’s & 12’s – Tuesdays 4.15pm - 5.15pm (Outdoor courts)

Training and Season Commitment
P r o g r a m
Netball is a team sport and each member of the team plays a vital role. It is common courtesy to advise us if you are unable to attend training or a game in advance so that training programs and game plans/court rotation can be adapted. Failure to comply, without reasonable excuse or phone call, may result in loss of court time during the Saturday game. Coaches volunteer their time and resources and deserve full support and respect by all members. Their hard work and dedication should be appreciated. Parents/guardians – by authorising and agreeing to your child’s membership and participation you have also made a season-long commitment to a team.
Concerns Please communicate all concerns and issues with the Netball Coordinator or administrator as and Complaints soon as they arise. Please do not discuss any issues with your child’s coach. Wet Weather
Saturday games are occasionally cancelled due to wet weather. HDNA will notify each club once a decision is made. However, just because once we are notified of any cancellations we will contact your coaches and managers. Please do NOT contact HDNA. Supporter’s Club
In 2018, Hillcrest Netball will be complimented by a Netball Supporter’s Club, which is a group of parents, coaches and staff who act to reflect the ethos of Hillcrest Christian College in the culture of the Netball Club. The Supporter’s Club have a specific scope of activity and covers both Club and Representative Teams (Samsung Cup and Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup). The scope of the Supporter’s Club is to: Actively fundraise within the local community. Organise and coordinate social events, including the Presentation Day for each team. Design, order and distribute yearly Supporter’s Club Shirts + Touring Polos. Carnivals – Tent & hospitality

Representative Netball: Samsung Cup and Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup
Overview:
The Samsung Cup and Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup are the major representative tournaments for all students in the Junior and Senior Learning Communities. Both Tournaments are the School’s State Championships and are divided in to Primary School Division (Samsung Cup), Years 7-9 (Vicki Wilson Shield) and Years 10-12 (Vicki Wilson Cup). Hillcrest Christian College has entered representative teams in to these tournaments since 2015 and are a core part of the College calendar.
Timing:
The Samsung Cup is generally held during the September holidays and the Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup is held throughout Term 3, with preliminary rounds and finals scattered throughout the Term.
Selection:
To be considered for the school representative teams students are asked to participate in the SLC Netball Sport or JLC Interschool Sport programs. Squad teams will be selected from these programs.
Trials:
Will occur as part of the SLC Netball and JLC Interschool Sport training sessions.
Fees:
As the tournament location for the Samsung Cup changes annually or biannually, fees change to reflect the location. Students selected for the Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup teams are levied $100 on their Term 3 fees (2018).
Accommodation: Students in the Samsung Cup are expected to travel and stay with their parents if the tournament is outside the Gold Coast metropolitan area. As the Vicki Wilson Shield/Cup is mostly located on the Gold Coast and the southern side of Brisbane, accommodation is not needed to be organised. Uniform:
Hillcrest Christian College’s representative teams have a separate uniform to the Club teams and are provided to the girls at the commencement of the competition. These representative teams are proudly sponsored by Clear Smiles Orthodontics.

Players Code of Conduct
1. Play by the rules at all times. 2. Never argue with an official. If you disagree or are unclear on a decision, have your captain, coach or manager approach the official during a break of after the game to seek clarification. 3. Control your temper, Verbal abuse of officials and sledging of other players, deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport. 4. Work equally hard for yourself and /or your team. Your team’s performance will benefit and so will you. 5. Be a good sport at all times. Applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition. 6. Treat all participants in your sport as you would like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of another competitor. 7. Cooperate with your coach, manager, team mates, opponents and umpires. 8. Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit, not just to please parents and coaches. 9. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion. I have read the Player’s Code of Conduct and understand that any breech of the code may result in: A) A written warning, or B) Dismissal from the club I will make every effort to attend every training session and every game. If I cannot make training or the game I will notify my coach.

Parents Players and Spectators Code of Conduct Code of Conduct
1. Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment. 2. Encourage children to participate – do not force them. 3. Applaud good performances and efforts from all individuals and teams. Congratulate all participants on their performance regardless of the games outcome. 4. Respect the decisions of officials and coaches and teach children to do likewise. 5. Support all efforts to remove to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities. 6. Do not use foul language, sledge or harass players, coaches or officials. 7. Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake. Positive comments are motivational. 8. Respect the rights, dignity and worth or every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion. 9. Do not interfere with the progress and/or conduct of the game. I have read the Parents and Spectators Code of Conduct and understand that any breech of the code may result in : A) A written warning B) A ban on my attendance at training sessions and/or games. Or C) My child being dismissed from the club I will make every effort to get my daughter to every training session and every game. If I cannot get my daughter to one of the above I will notify the coach or team manager as early as possible. Any such action will be at the discretion of school and in the event of dismissal there will be no reimbursement of membership fees.

