Junior School Collaborative Working Zone Opens An area within our Junior School has been transformed into a dynamic Collaborative Working Zone, in memory of Mrs Elaine Adair. Senior Drama Production Lots of h-arrrrr-d work paid off for our Senior School pupils as they performed a memorable three-night run of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, ‘Treasure Island’. This madcap, laugh-a-minute, nautical adventure entertained audiences from start to finish - a perfect, piratical pantomime in the run-up to Christmas!

Pipe Dreams Three HSOG pipers were selected for the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland Programme in early October. Sasha (S5) was offered a place in the NYPBS Development Band, the highest level that a school-age piper can perform at, with Rory (S5) and Robbie (S3) both being offered places in the Junior Band. Congratulations to Sasha, Rory and Robbie - we wish them the best of luck.

Physics Prize Rory of Fifth Year achieved the joint highest mark in the country for his National 5 Physics exam earlier this year. Alongside his parents and Head of Physics, Dr Went, he was invited to attend the Science and the Parliament event at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, where he was presented with the Institute of Physics award by Professor Julie Fitzpatrick OBE, the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Scottish Government. What an unforgettable day!

Remembering the Fallen High School life paused in November as the School community took the time to remember the nearly 700 former pupils killed during World War I and World War II. The School community paid its respects during a moving service on Friday 10th November, with David and Sophie of Sixth Year helping tell the story of former pupil, Thomas Havre, who was killed in the Battle of Loos aged just 24. High School wreaths were laid not only at our War Memorial within the Senior School, but also at the Cenotaph in London, as four S6 pupils, including our School Captains, represented the School at the Western Front Association Commemoration Event on Saturday 11th November.

Bannerman Fundraising Week A memorable week of events helped to raise £3,613 for Scottish Cystic Fibrosis charity, Butterfly Trust. Bannerman Captains, Emma and Paddy, organised an outstanding week of fun events including a charity cake and candy sale, the chance to soak a teacher and a day of fancy dress for Sixth Year pupils, all culminating in the Bannerman House Show, ‘Bannerman’s Got Talent’. Senior pupils enjoyed memorable trips during the October break, with a sun-kissed Classics Department excursion to Greece and an unforgettable senior hockey tour to Amsterdam.

BookFest ‘23 A fun-filled week for all of our young bookworms! Organised through the combined efforts of the English Department and the Senior School Library, BookFest 2023 saw pupils enjoy workshops, hear from a number of renowned authors and participate in enriching bookthemed activities throughout. Junior School - ‘Sharing the Learning’ Junior 6 got our series of ‘Sharing the Learning’ events off to a flying start this session with their ambitious World War II Museum in early November. Our pupils showed off all they had learned by guiding visiting parents and guests through a series of informative workshops. There were a number of highlights, but a favourite for many was J6’s World War II news reel, compiled and filmed during Drama lessons. Every aspect of the morning was led by our children, marking a very confident start to their final year at Ledcameroch Road!

Family members attended a Junior 3 Sharing the Learning event on the rainforest. Children led their parents on a journey through the curriculum, displaying their maths skills by reading rainfall data and creating bar graphs, showing how they have ‘stretched their sentences’ by adding adjectives, adverbs and verbs, and sharing their learning in social studies by comparing life in the rainforest to their own. Their Fairtrade Café served treats baked by pupils and parents enjoyed a performance of ‘Rainforest Goodbye’, a drama production featuring uplifting and thought provoking songs. Junior 5 hosted a Sharing the Learning event relating to refugees and the impact of water scarcity and flooding. This was the first time the children had taken the lead in exploring such mature and challenging issues. They had been reading Onjali Q Rauf’s novel, ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’, which draws on the theme of conflict refugees. J5 also visited Refuweegee earlier in the term to meet staff and find out more about the people they support. Following on from this, they decided to host a ‘Donation Station’ as part of their event, the response to which from the School community was hugely generous.
