01 MARCH 2025

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: FAITH ANNE YELEY

Welcome to the the Sport Management Newsletter! February was a dynamic month for HPU’s Sport Management program, marked by hands-on learning experiences, student achievements, faculty contributions, and the continued impact of our alumni. From high-profile externships to competitive success, our students and faculty demonstrated their commitment to excellence in the sport industry.

Dr. Tim Koba and Dr. Amy Rundio were recognized for their research on financial literacy in sport management, helping students navigate industry challenges and develop essential skills. We also celebrated alumni making an impact and highlighted junior Sophie Pekarek for her leadership, marketing internship, and experience with the Minnesota Lynx.

Students participated in an externship with the Dallas Mavericks, gaining experience in marketing, operations, and fan engagement. They learned from industry professionals and saw the inner workings of an NBA franchise. At the ASMA Conference, our case study teams showcased their skills, with one incredible team securing second place. It highlighted how the competition strengthened their teamwork and industry connections, preparing them for future roles in sports.

Looking ahead, we’re excited for hands-on experiences, networking events, and industry collaborations. Upcoming competitions, internships, and guest speakers will provide valuable opportunities for growth.
