PharmD Graduate Program Timeline

Program OVERVIEW
YEARS 1 through 3 of Graduate Study*
Matriculation into the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy begins each fall. During the first three years, students engage in rigorous classroom learning combined with experiential opportunities, designed to build a strong foundation of pharmacy knowledge and practical skills. 3
YEAR 4 of Graduate Study Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs): Applied hands-on learning in real-world settings.
Total Number of Years to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree 6 years

High Point University’s Pre-Pharmacy Track is designed to prepare you for acceptance into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program in the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy (FWSOP). This six-year track prioritizes your success by offering academic and hands-on practice experiences designed to boost your confidence, enhance your knowledge, and develop essential Life Skills, all while strengthening your academic expertise for a degree recognized by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) as a gateway to over 100 career pathways.
An undergraduate degree is not required for acceptance into our Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Pre-Pharmacy TRACK
The pre-pharmacy core curriculum requirements include prerequisite classes in general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, microbiology, physiology and math. Individual pre-pharmacy track course plans may vary slightly based on class options available, choices made with your advisor and any outside course credit earned.

FRED WILSON SCHOOL OF PHARMACY EARLY ASSURANCE ADMISSION :
For top academic students entering the undergraduate Pre-Pharmacy Track and intending to enroll in HPU’s Doctor of Pharmacy program, the School of Pharmacy offers an opportunity for an EARLY ASSURANCE ADMISSIONS pathway.
Eligibility requirements as undergraduate students at HPU:
• Enrollment in the HPU Pre-Pharmacy major as a high school senior.
• Successful completion of the required credit hour course plan during two years of undergraduate studies with guidance from the HPU Pre-Pharmacy major Success Coach and FWSOP Advisor. If college coursework from high school is eligible, then course substitutions may be used with approval.
• Maintenance of a cumulative 3.0 GPA at HPU with no grade below a “C-”.
• Membership in the HPU Pre-Pharmacy Club. Students are strongly encouraged to hold a leadership role.
• Completion of an electronic application using PharmCAS by November 1st of the year prior to beginning the pharmacy program (additional prerequisites may still be in progress).
• Engagement in professional behavior at all times. Any institutional or legal sanction will result in immediate exclusion from the early assurance admission pathway.
SCHOLARSHIPS
HPU Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy Doctor of Program Scholarship Opportunities:
A generous High Point University donor has made it possible for the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy to offer scholarships of up to $15,000 per year (not just your first year) based on academic merit to incoming Doctor of Pharmacy students.
Dean’s Scholarship: $15,000/year
Innovation Scholarship: $5,000/year
Mortar & Pestle Scholarship: $2,500/year
HPU Presidential Scholarships:
Students that intend to major in Pre-Pharmacy and are named an HPU Presidential Scholar will earn select status in our two-year Pre-Pharmacy Track that allows them to earn both preferred early assurance admission and receive continued presidential scholarship funding for the remaining duration of the award following matriculation into the FWSOP Doctor of Pharmacy Program. Additionally, the Presidential Scholars interview with a FWSOP faculty member will serve as their admission interview for the Doctor of Pharmacy Program.
