New Year—New Opportunities New Active Adult programs and activities await you in 2022. Being active doesn’t always mean training for marathons or working out at the gym every day. Living an active lifestyle might include outdoor walks, gardening, meeting for a picnic or meal out, attending concerts, taking a cooking class, volunteering, joining a new club, taking grandchildren to the park and so much more. AAPS provides a variety of indoor and outdoor activities that encourage continued learning, physical movement and connection to others. Learn more at highlandsranch.org/aaps. For availability and to register, please visit highlandsranch.org/signmeup. For information and updates regarding the Highlands Ranch Senior Center project, please visit highlandsranch.org/seniorcenter or contact Mike Renshaw at 720-240-4910 or mrenshaw@highlandsranch.org.

FITNESS, WELLNESS AND RECREATION
Outdoor activities will resume as the weather warms and conditions are safe. Stay tuned for information about local trail walks, picnics, games in the park and more.
In the meantime…move your way Physical activity can make daily life better. • Home and garden chores, grocery shopping, travel and keeping up with and enjoying your grandchildren are all great reasons to keep moving. • You will live independently longer and healthier, have less pain, a better outlook and mood and even lower your risk of many chronic conditions. • Seek out opportunities to get your heart rate up and participate in activities that strengthen your muscles (muscles support our joints). Walking, gardening, biking, dancing, joining a fitness, yoga or tai chi class are just some of the ways to stay heart and brain-healthy, strong and flexible.

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU: FAQs Q: I am new to Highlands Ranch and would like to meet new people, find activities and take classes. What is available to me and where do I find information? A: The Metro District’s Active Adult Program & Services (AAPS) provides recreational, lifelong learning and social opportunities to help you meet new people and feel connected. Visit highlandsranch.org/aaps to learn more or to register: highlandsranch.org/signmeup and click on the Active Adults (Seniors) box. Q: My parents need help to remain at home. Are services available that could step in when I cannot be there, or to give me an occasional break? A: Yes. A licensed non-medical in-home care agency can provide companionship, light housekeeping, meal prep, transportation and more. Agencies are bonded and insured. There are also county-directed services and benefits that provide these services, giving you the support and break you need so you can continue to be a healthy and involved care provider. Q: I sometimes need a ride to the doctor, grocery store or other places around town. Is there transportation available to me? A: Yes. There are several private and county-directed services that can help you with transportation needs. Contact Jodie McCann at jmccann@highlandsranch.org or 720-240-4922. For more information about activities and help locating services, contact Jodie McCann at jmccann@highlandsranch.org or 720-240-4922.
