In my opinion one of the most important treasures on this earth is a happy, healthy family. From the time our boys were young we taught them to appreciate and value their family. We also made sure they knew that when they left our home they represented our family, including parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Here are a few lessons that I hope they will never forget: 1. Love the Lord with all of your heart, mind and soul. 2. Mom and Dad love them unconditionally. 3. Prayer is important and it changes things, so pray daily. 4. There is no shame in trying, only in failing to try. 5. No matter how old they are they have a safe place to land at home. Toothache

Rinse the mouth with warm salt water or use dental floss to flush out any debris trapped between teeth. If face is swollen, apply a cold compress. Take acetaminophen as directed for pain and call a dentist as soon as possible if the pain persists.

Tongue, Lip or Cheek Bite

Apply firm but gentle pressure with a clean gauze or cloth to area to control bleeding. An ice compress can be used for any swelling. If bleeding cannot be controlled with simple pressure, call the dentist or oral surgeon for treatment

Permanent Tooth Knocked Out

Clean the injured area and apply ice. Find the tooth and rinse gently but handle as little as possible! Call the dentist immediately - time is critical! If you are able, place the tooth back in itâ€™s socket and hold in place while traveling to the dentistâ€™s office, otherwise transport the tooth in cup of water.

Cold or Canker Sores

A frequent occurrence in many children can often be treated using overthe-counter medications for relief. If the sores persist, it is important to have a dental evaluation to rule out any other infection.

Broken Tooth

Clean injured area gently. Place ice comp less over the face in the injured area. Call the dentist as soon as possible.

Broken Space Maintainers, Braces or Wires

If the broken appliance can be removed, do so. If it cannot be removed, try to cover the wires or bands which are causing irritation with gauze, wax, cotton ball or chewing gum (in a pinch). Loose or broken appliances that do not bother the child do not normally require immediate attention but do call soon to get the appliance repaired and continue successful treatment.

Fractured Jaw

Severe traumatic injuries in which there is swelling and difficulty in moving the jaws should be seen by an oral surgeon or emergency room immediately. Prevent excessive movement in the jaws.
