At VM Carpet, we make rugs and carpets straight from the heart. An expertly designed and beautifully finished product and a satisfied customer are a matter of honour to us. We weave authenticity, humanity and Finnish nature into each rug we make. Our rugs and carpets are the result of excellent cooperation, with every step as important as the next and every employee playing a crucial role. Our rugs are made to withstand real life!

Viita-ahon mattokutomon perustivat Arto ja Aila Viita-aho vuonna 1973 Lappajärven rannalle, Karvalan kylään. Heti alusta lähtien kutomossa tehtiin mm. räsymattoja, myöhemmin materiaaleina alettiin käyttää puuvillan lisäksi myös villaa, paperinarua ja sisalia. VM Carpet on panostanut hyvään suunnitteluun alusta lähtien, Suomen eturivin suunnittelijoiden kanssa kutomo on tehnyt yhteistyötä jo yli 30 vuotta.

Tänä päivänä Viita-ahon perheen viidestä lapsesta kolme on mukana toiminnassa. Perustaja Arto Viita-aholle mattokutomo oli paikka, jossa toteuttaa innovaatioita ja uusia ideoita. Elämän perusarvot ovat vakaasti lomittuneet tapaan toimia ja tehdä. Inhimillisyys ja kekseliäisyys sekä rehellinen ja ystävällinen pohjalainen asenne ovat olleet tärkeä osa kutomon toimintaa alusta asti. Viita-ahon mattokutomon työntekijät ovat osa perhettä, vanhimmat työntekijät ovat olleet mukana yli 30 vuotta.

The Viita-aho rug factory was founded by Arto and Aila Viita-aho in 1973 by the shore of Lake Lappajärvi, in the village of Karvala. From the very beginning, the rug factory produced rag rugs, with woollen rugs, paper yarn and sisal coming along later. VM Carpet has invested in good design from the beginning. We have partnered with the leading designers in Finland more than 30 years.

Today, three of the five children in the Viita-aho family participate in the operations. For the founder, Arto Viita-aho, the rug factory was a place for innovation and new ideas. The basic values of life are solidly intertwined with the way of working and doing things. Humane values, innovation, honesty and the friendly Ostrobothnian attitude have been an important part of the factory’s activities from the first steps. The employees of the Viita-aho rug factory are part of the family. The senior employees have been with us for more than 30 years.

The VM Carpet’s cut opens up completely new possibilities for interior design. The shape of the rug does not have to be a conventional rectangle or circle any longer - now almost any shape is feasible.

The rug’s shape can reflect the form of the room, the placement of furniture or, for instance, your own hobby or other interest. Children will certainly take to different animal and cartoon characters. It is also possible to make the shape of the rug in the living room or the bedroom reflect the room’s style or atmosphere.

The material best suited for the shapeable rugs are thick shaggy rugs, such as Kide, Hattara and Puuteri. It is also possible to cut special shapes from flat-woven rugs though the border can limit the size of the angle, for instance.

You can choose one of our standard shapes or create your own shape. Your imagination is the only limit.

How to choose a rug with custom dimensions?

The look and functionality of a space truly come together when the rug is the right size. A sufficiently large rug brings the furniture together and makes the space feel inviting. A custom-made rug serves both the room and the eye in the best possible way.

At our factory, rugs are produced in rolls four meters wide and 30–40 meters long. They can be cut and finished to almost any size and shape. Don’t hesitate to choose a rug that is generously sized for your space!

Mikään ei korvaa todellista materiaalinäytettä. Ilmainen mattonäyte tuo varmuutta, vähentää virheostoja ja auttaa löytämään juuri omaan kotiin ja elämäntapaan sopivan maton. Saat tehdä valinnan rauhassa ja omassa ympäristössä.

Näytöllä tai painetussa kuvassa maton sävy voi näyttää erilaiselta kuin todellisuudessa. Kotona näet, miltä väri näyttää omassa valaistuksessa (päivänvalo, iltavalo, keinovalo) ja miten sävy toimii yhdessä seinien, lattian ja kalusteiden kanssa.

Näytteen avulla voit tunnustella materiaalin pehmeyttä, karheutta ja laatua sekä testata, miltä matto tuntuu paljain jaloin. Pystyt arvioimaan, onko materiaali miellyttävä juuri omaan käyttöön, tuleepa matto sitten olohuoneeseen, makuuhuoneeseen tai eteiseen.

Valmistamme materiaalinäytteet tuotannossamme syntyvistä ylijäämäpaloista, joita syntyy mattojen viimeistelyssä eri kokoihin ja muotoihin. Näin hyödynnämme materiaalin mahdollisimman tarkasti ja vähennämme hukkaa.

Nothing compares to a real material sample. A free rug sample provides confidence, reduces the risk of a wrong purchase, and helps you find the rug that perfectly fits your home and lifestyle. You can make your choice calmly, in your own environment.

On a screen or in a printed image, a rug’s colour can appear different from reality. At home, you can see how the colour looks in your own lighting (daylight, evening light, artificial light) and how it works with your walls, flooring, and furniture.

With the sample, you can feel the material’s softness, texture, and quality, and test how the rug feels under bare feet. You can evaluate whether the material is comfortable and suitable for its intended use, whether it will be in the living room, bedroom, or hallway.

We make our material samples from surplus pieces produced during rug finishing, when rugs are cut into different sizes and shapes. This allows us to use the material as efficiently as possible and reduce waste.

We deliver the sample of your choice to your home free of charge. Samples don’t require a purchase.
