CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/GENERAL MANAGER
Dear Members,
As we move into the third quarter, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been an outstanding spring season at Glen Kernan Club and share some of the exciting plans ahead for the summer months.
The second quarter was highlighted by successful social and golf events, which brought tremendous energy to the Club. We were thrilled to receive numerous positive comments about the condition of the golf course and the overall member experience. Participation across the Club remained strong throughout the spring, and we continue to see exceptionally high demand for our cottages, food & beverage program, and tennis league play.
We are also pleased to report continued strong demand for golf memberships. Interest in the Club remains at an all-time high, and with only 45 Golf Memberships available, we are excited to welcome new Members while maintaining the exceptional experience our Members expect.
Our Summer Men’s Match Play event is in full swing, and we recently celebrated the successful completion of both our Men’s and Ladies’ Club Championships, as well as our Spring Member-Guest tournaments. These events showcased not only great competition but also the camaraderie and community that make Glen Kernan such a special place.
On the golf course, we have just completed our spring aerification program and appreciate everyone’s patience during this important maintenance process. As always, our team remains committed to continuously improving the course and overall club experience. We will continue making enhancements and adjustments throughout the year while carefully considering the valuable feedback we receive from our Membership.
Beyond the golf course, summer programming is off to a fantastic start. Our youth fitness camps, junior golf camps, and youth tennis camps have all experienced strong participation, and we look forward to welcoming even more Members and families throughout the season. These programs provide wonderful opportunities for skill development, fitness, and fun while fostering connections among our youth in the community.
At our Athletic Club, we have made thoughtful adjustments to our staffed hours for the summer, based on Member feedback, to provide Members with greater access to services and amenities. Additionally, we have recently completed capital improvements at our tennis facility, including installing additional artificial turf around the courts, upgrading lighting, and resurfacing the courts to improve playability for Members and Guests.

Lastly, we are excited to introduce Mark Sullivan, our new Pickleball Professional, who is sure to grow our pickleball program with his fantastic energy and expertise.
The Club’s dining and hospitality offerings will also see several exciting enhancements this summer. We look forward to introducing new lunch, dinner, and cocktail menus designed to elevate the Member dining experience with fresh seasonal selections and creative culinary offerings. At the Café, Members can expect new menu items along with the launch of a new VIP Card Program, providing added convenience and value while enhancing one of our most popular Member amenities. Finally, we are excited to launch “Le Renard,” our curated wine program, which is sure to thrill our wine enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events on the calendar. Our annual Summer Bash in July promises to be a highlight of the season, bringing Members together for a memorable celebration around our nation’s 250th anniversary. Golfers can also enjoy our weekly Wednesday Night Scrambles, which remain a fun and social way to spend an evening on the course. Additionally, our Ladies’ On-Course Clinics held every Thursday at 5PM throughout the summer provide a great opportunity for instruction, practice, and fellowship.
Thank you for your continued support and participation. The enthusiasm and engagement of our Membership continue to drive the success of Glen Kernan Club. We look forward to an exciting summer filled with great golf, exceptional dining, family activities, and memorable experiences for all.
See you around the Club this summer!
Mike Giammaresi, PGA Chief Operating Officer/General Manager

Dear Members,
As we move further into the growing season, I wanted to provide an update on several agronomic initiatives taking place across the golf course. I am pleased to report that we have successfully completed our first aerification of the year. The process went smoothly, and we are already seeing the desired results as the turf continues to recover and strengthen. Aerification remains one of our most important agronomic practices, promoting deeper rooting, improved soil conditions, and long-term turf health.
Throughout the growing season, our team will continue implementing a comprehensive turf management program that includes verticutting, slicing, and topdressing. These practices improve surface smoothness and turf canopy density while supporting the long-term health and resilience of the playing surfaces. While some of these activities may be noticeable at times, they are essential to delivering the high-quality conditions our membership expects year-round.
You may also notice that we have begun selectively mowing specific areas of Bahia grass around the golf course. This initiative is intended to improve overall playability by

As always, I appreciate your continued support and understanding as we perform these important agronomic practices. Our goal remains to provide exceptional playing conditions while ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of the golf course.
Our team takes great pride in maintaining the golf course at the highest level, and we appreciate your continued support as we invest in both the immediate quality and long-term success of our playing surfaces.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you on the course.
Sincerely,
Joe Williams Director of Agronomy

GOLF COURSE CARE: SMALL ACTIONS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
Dear Members,
As we continue to enjoy the golf season, we’d like to remind everyone that proper course care is one of the most important responsibilities of every golfer. The condition of our course depends on the collective efforts of all members.
Fill Your Divots
Whenever you take a divot in the fairway, please take a moment to fill it with the sand/seed mixture provided on your golf cart. Properly filled divots recover much faster, helping maintain healthy turf and providing better playing conditions for everyone. A few seconds of effort can save weeks of recovery time.
Repair Ball Marks
A single unrepaired ball mark can take weeks to heal and creates an uneven putting surface. When you reach the green, repair your own ball mark and, if possible, one additional mark. Insert your repair tool around the edges of the mark and gently push the turf toward the center before smoothing the area with your putter. Proper repair helps keep our greens smooth, healthy, and enjoyable for all players.
Practice Smart Golf Cart Placement
Golf carts can have a significant impact on turf health when used improperly. Please observe all cart directional signs and avoid driving close to greens, tees, and wet or damaged areas. Whenever possible, use the 90-degree rule and keep carts on designated paths around greens and tees. Spreading cart traffic over different areas of the course also helps reduce wear and compaction.
Everyone Benefits
The quality of our golf course is a direct reflection of the care shown by its members. By filling divots, repairing ball marks, and using thoughtful golf cart placement, we can all help preserve excellent playing conditions throughout the season.
Thank you for your commitment to maintaining our course and helping provide the best possible experience for all golfers.
Play Well, Respect the Course, and Leave It Better Than You Found It.
Johnny Randolph PGA Head Golf Professional

The golf course and practice facilities will be closed Tuesday, August 4 through Tuesday, August 11 for scheduled aerification and maintenance — an investment in the exceptional playing conditions our Members deserve. The course will reopen Wednesday, August 12.

Four-Day Signature Racquets Event of the Fall Season.
Glen Kernan’s Member-Guest Tournament is four days of competitive match play, themed social events, and evening gatherings — all designed to celebrate our racquets community and welcome the Guests who make it even better.

Dear Members,
Summer is officially here, and while the temperatures continue to climb, so does the activity on our courts. It has been exciting to see such strong participation across all of our racquet sports programs.
Summer camp wrapped up, and it delivered everything we hoped for — and then some. The kids ran, they competed, they laughed, and more than a few of them found a forehand they didn’t know they had. Watching that moment click is one of the great rewards of this work, and this summer had plenty of them. I’m already looking forward to next year.
Our USTA teams continue to compete through the summer months, and the Thursday afternoon Junior Clinic remains one of the most popular programs of the week. The energy is fantastic, the improvement is real, and spots are still open. If your child isn’t in it yet, I’d love for you to come take a look.
Cardio Tennis continues to be a Member favorite as well. Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, sharpen your game, or simply enjoy a fun and energetic workout, it’s a great way to stay active while spending time on the courts.
Welcome Pickleball Professional, Mark Sullivan
We are excited to welcome Mark Sullivan to our Racquet Sports Team beginning in July, as our Pickleball Professional. Mark will be offering instruction for players of all skill levels and is passionate about creating an engaging, welcoming

environment for everyone. Whether you’re an experienced player or picking up a paddle for the first time, there will be opportunities to learn, improve, and have fun. Be sure to check the club app for upcoming clinics and program schedules.
We’re also hosting a Wimbledon Final Watch Party in July — come cheer a little too loud and enjoy the company of fellow Members who love this game as much as you do. And be sure to save the date for our biggest racquet sports event of the year—the Member-Guest Tournament, taking place October 8–12. This annual tradition is always one of the highlights of the season, and we look forward to sharing additional details and registration information soon.
Stay hydrated, and I look forward to seeing you on the court soon!
Warm regards,
Aline Berkenbrock Director of Racquet Sports

A core strength and stability exercise that combines a traditional bird dog with a row. It’s great for building core and back strength while increasing balance.
Zone 2 is a low-to-moderate-intensity effort where your heart rate is 60–70% of your maximum. To find your target range, use this formula:
(220 − Age) × 0.60 and (220 − Age) × 0.70
For example, a 45-year-old would target roughly 105–122 BPM. You should be able to hold a conversation, but feel like you’re genuinely working.
Zone 2 training builds your aerobic engine — the foundation of endurance, sustained energy, and faster recovery. At this intensity, your body burns fat as fuel rather than carbohydrates, which, over time, improves metabolic efficiency and body composition. It’s also low enough in impact that your body can handle it frequently without excessive fatigue.

Challenge Treadmill Incline Walk
Frequency: 1-3 times per week
Duration: 30 minutes
Incline: 12%
Speed: 3.0 mph
Keep it simple: set it and go. The elevated incline at a moderate pace is what drives your heart rate into Zone 2 without requiring a run — making this accessible for all fitness levels while delivering serious aerobic benefits.
• Don’t hold the handrails — it significantly reduces the workout’s effectiveness
• Use a fitness tracker or chest strap to confirm you’re in your target heart rate zone
• Consistency over intensity — three steady sessions per week will outperform one hard effort
• Pair with a podcast or playlist to make the 30 minutes fly
Dustin Swinney Director of Fitness

Some salads are built for the table — this one’s built for the season. Charred zucchini and blistered corn bring a smoky depth that makes every bite feel like the best part of summer, balanced by creamy avocado, bright lime, and the salty bite of feta. Fresh cilantro and mint keep it lively, and the whole thing comes together with barely any effort. Clean, colorful, and completely satisfying — this is warm-weather cooking at its best.
Charred Zucchini & Corn Salad with Avocado, Lime, and Feta (Clean, seasonal, vegetarian, gluten-free)

• 2ea. zucchini, sliced into thin rounds
• 2ea. fresh corn, kernels cut off

• Juice of 1 lime
• 2 tbl olive oil
• 1 tbl chopped fresh cilantro
• 1 tbl chopped fresh mint
• Salt and cracked pepper- to taste

2. Assemble the Salad: In a large bowl, combine zucchini, corn, and avocado.
3. Dress It: Drizzle with olive oil and lime juice. Toss gently.
4. Finish: Top with crumbled feta and fresh herbs. Season with salt and pepper. Serve at room temperature.

An elegant expression of Russian River terroir, this Pinot Noir from the incomparable Merry Edwards showcases vibrant red cherry and pomegranate notes layered with hints of baking spice and a whisper of dried rose petal. On the palate, its silky texture and refined balance give way to a long, graceful finish — the hallmark of fruit sourced from one of California’s most celebrated appellations.
Merry Edwards has spent decades as a pioneering force in Sonoma winemaking, earning a reputation for Pinot Noirs of exceptional precision and place. Her Russian River vineyards, farmed with meticulous care, yield wines that speak unmistakably of their origin — cool maritime influence, well-drained soils, and a growing season that coaxes complexity without sacrificing elegance.
This bottle serves as a perfect introduction to our curated wine series: approachable enough for the curious newcomer, yet layered enough to reward the seasoned collector. A quintessential Sonoma Pinot from a true legend of the craft.
Pairs beautifully with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, or aged sheep’s milk cheese.
David Bacon Director of Food & Beverage
