MESSAGE FROM MIKE GIAMMARESI

Dear Members,

As we move into the second quarter of the year, I’m pleased to reflect on what has already been a very successful start to 2026 at Glen Kernan Club. The energy around the Club has been tremendous, and it is exciting to see the continued momentum building across all aspects of the Membership experience.

Membership interest has remained strong, and we have welcomed several new members into the Glen Kernan community. It is incredibly rewarding to see our Membership grow with individuals and families who share a passion for the Club and the lifestyle it provides. Just as encouraging has been the outstanding participation in our social events so far this year. From Member gatherings to themed dinners and Club mix & mingles, it has been wonderful to see Members connect, enjoy the Club, and help create such a vibrant atmosphere.

Looking ahead, the spring calendar is packed with exciting events and programming for Members and their families. Our Team has worked hard to create engaging opportunities for everyone to enjoy the Club throughout the season. As we begin planning for the warmer months, please also be on the lookout for details regarding our Summer Junior Programs, including fitness, tennis, pickleball, and golf opportunities designed to keep our younger Members active and engaged all summer long.

On the culinary side, we are grateful for the thoughtful feedback many of you have shared regarding our lunch and dinner menus. Your input has energized Chef and his Team, and we look forward to continuing to introduce new dishes and creative culinary experiences while maintaining the approachable favorites our Members enjoy.

Out on the golf course, the transition from winter has gone very well, and the course is beginning to come to life as we move into the heart of the spring season. During the offseason, our Agronomy Team completed several important capital improvement projects that will enhance course conditions and set the stage for a fantastic golf season ahead. We appreciate the team’s dedication and the patience of our Members as this work was completed.

As always, thank you for your continued support of the Glen Kernan Club. We look forward to an action-packed spring and to seeing you around the Club often in the months ahead.

Warmly,

FROM THE GREENS WITH JOE WILLIAMS

DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY

Dear Members,

As we move into spring, I would like to share a brief update on the golf course’s condition and the work our Agronomy Team has accomplished over the past quarter.

This winter proved to be one of the coldest in recent memory. Despite the extended periods of cooler temperatures, the golf course has weathered the season well, and we are beginning to see a strong transition as turf activity resumes with warmer weather.

Throughout the winter months, our team completed the majority of our planned improvement projects. These efforts included expanding screening areas to alleviate traffic pinch points and better distribute play across the course. Additional Bahia grass was introduced in select areas to clean up the visual lines of the golf course while improving durability in outlying turf areas. We also removed several trees to address shade limitations, improving both sunlight exposure and air movement in locations that historically struggled with turf performance.

With these projects largely complete, our focus now turns to the spring agronomic program. This program is designed to promote healthy turf growth while maintaining the consistent playing conditions expected by the Membership.

Over the coming weeks, we will implement solid tine aerification to improve air and water movement within the soil profile and relieve surface compaction. Verticutting will stimulate additional growing points within the turf canopy, encouraging greater density and overall turf quality. These practices will be paired with light and frequent top-dressing applications to smooth the playing surfaces and fill minor gaps as the turf continues to grow in.

Particular attention will also be directed toward high-traffic areas where compaction has developed over the winter months. Addressing these areas early in the season helps ensure stronger turf performance as we move into the heavier play of spring and summer.

I appreciate the continued support of the Membership and the recognition of the work our Agronomy Team performs daily. We remain committed to delivering the best possible playing conditions while protecting the long-term health and sustainability of the golf course.

Sincerely,

GOLF TIPS FROM JOHNNY RANDOLPH

PGA HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Tips From The Tee: Bunker Play

1. Set Up for Success

Start with a slightly open stance and aim your body left of the target (for right-handed players). Open the clubface before gripping the club—this adds loft and helps the club glide through the sand. Keep your hands over or slightly behind the ball. Position the ball just forward of center and dig your feet into the sand for stability. I like to feel a little wider stance.

2. Focus on the Sand, Not the Ball

The key to a good bunker shot is striking the sand, not the ball. Picture a spot about 1–2 inches behind the ball. Your goal is to splash the sand onto the green, carrying the ball with it.

3. Make a Committed Swing

Accelerate through the shot with confidence. A common mistake is decelerating—trust the loft of the club and follow through to a high finish. The sand will do the work.

4. Keep It Simple

Think “splash,” not “hit.” A relaxed grip and smooth tempo will produce far better results than trying to force the ball out.

5. Line Drill

Draw a line in the sand and practice making contact on the line. If you are struggling to hit the line, check your ball position and alignment.

See you on the course!

Spring is here, and so is your game. Exclusively for Golf Members, we’re thrilled to have you out practicing and preparing for the season ahead. As the turf wakes up, your divot habits matter more than ever: please use vertical line patterns rather than scattered or block patterns to support healthy recovery. This small habit makes a big difference and keeps conditions excellent for every Member. Wishing you a spectacular season ahead!

The goal is to create a relaxed event that celebrates the season and fosters camaraderie among the teams.

From the Courts

MESSAGE FROM ALINE BERKENBROCK

DIRECTOR OF RACQUET SPORTS

Spring Momentum Ahead

The racquet sports program at Glen Kernan continues to grow, bringing together players across all levels for competition, development, and community. This spring season has been especially exciting as we finish the interclub leagues strong. Our A3 team is currently on track to win the city interclub season this year. We have also seen strong performances from our other teams, including B1, B2, and C2.

These matches provide competitive play but also create opportunities for Members to connect with teammates and enjoy the social side of tennis. One of the most rewarding aspects of the season is seeing players of different levels supporting each other and building friendships through the game. I am very proud of the hard work and dedication our teams have shown throughout the season.

Pickleball also continues to gain momentum at Glen Kernan. With its fast-paced and social style of play, it has become a great way for Members to stay active while meeting others in the community. As interest grows, we are continuing to explore opportunities to expand programming and create new ways for Members to participate.

Looking ahead, the racquets calendar will include several fun events designed to bring Members together on and off the courts. Social play, themed events, and our upcoming Member-Guest Tournament in the fall will provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Glen Kernan racquet sports community.

If you have ever thought about trying tennis, this is a great time to get involved. We are currently looking for new players interested in learning the game and helping us form a beginner D-level team. These teams are designed for players who are developing their skills and want a supportive and fun environment to grow their game.

We are also beginning to organize Members interested in building a Glen Kernan Club pickleball program. If you are interested in starting tennis, joining a D team, or participating in the club’s pickleball program, please reach out.

We look forward to seeing you on the courts.

Kindly,

MOVE. PLAY. EXPLORE.

DIRECTOR OF FITNESS

Fitness Challenge: The Bird Dog Row

Exercise Benefits

A core strength and stability exercise that combines a traditional bird dog with a row. It’s great for building core and back strength while increasing balance.

Excercise Steps

1. Get into a tabletop position on all fours — wrists under shoulders, knees under hips, back flat, core engaged.

2. Extend the opposite leg straight back while simultaneously rowing the dumbbell up toward your hip, keeping your elbow close to your body.

3. Hold for a brief pause at the top — hips square, back flat, no rotation.

4. Lower the dumbbell and bring the leg back to the starting position with control.

5. Complete your reps on one side before switching, or alternate sides.

Coaching Tips

• Keep your hips level throughout — resist the urge to rotate or shift weight.

• Move slowly and with intention; this is a stability and control exercise as much as a strength one.

• Brace your core the entire time as if bracing for a light punch.

• Keep your neck and spine neutral — eyes toward the floor, not forward.

WINE PAIRING FROM DAVID BACON

DIRECTOR OF FOOD & BEVERAGE

2022 Quintessa – Rutherford Estate Red Blend

Some wines describe a place. Quintessa is the place. Grown biodynamically on one of Napa’s most storied estates, the 2022 vintage is a Bordeaux-style blend that arrives with quiet confidence — opening to intense aromas of black cherry and cassis, layered with tobacco, bay laurel, cedar, and a whisper of dark chocolate.

On the palate, it’s plush and immediately inviting, with dark fruits giving way to something more elemental: crushed stone, tar, graphite — the unmistakable voice of the land itself. The finish is long and assured, defined by Quintessa’s signature fine-grained tannins and a voluminous, fruitfilled texture that lingers well after the glass is set down. Complex, harmonious, and deeply expressive — this is Napa at its most cerebral and its most beautiful.

GLEN KERNAN MIX & MINGLE

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29 | 5PM - 7PM

Good company, great wine, and the perfect midweek reset. In April, we have a special Mix & Mingle + Cottages Open House! This is the perfect opportunity to come see one of our beautiful cottages up close, mingle with fellow Members, and enjoy a fun, relaxed evening at the Club.
