Message from Deerwood Country Club Board of Governors President, Bill Boutwell Dear Deerwood Members, As we wrap up the summer and prepare for an important period in Deerwood’s history, I am pleased to report that the club continues to perform well. We remain on track with our approved budget, and Membership activity and initiation-fee revenue continue to show positive momentum and confidence in Deerwood’s future. It has been great to see our Golf Members enjoy The Approach. It has been very well received and has significantly enhanced the practice experience for our Golf Members. We are excited to begin the scheduled resurfacing of six tennis courts this month, another project that will directly improve the day-to-day experience for our Tennis Members. It is exciting to see these investments move from plans to improvements our Members can see, use, and enjoy. At the same time, preparations for the golf course renovation are now getting underway. Lake draining and dredging operations are beginning, and equipment will soon be arriving near the golf course maintenance facility. Members and residents should expect increased construction activity and truck traffic as work progresses on the golf course lakes, as well as the community lake located to the left of Hole #1. MacCurrach Golf is scheduled to begin mobilizing heavy equipment during the fourth week of September. The golf course will officially close on October 5, and the renovation will begin. From that point until the project is complete, the golf course will be an active construction site. For everyone’s safety, it will be very important that Members and residents stay off the golf course and respect the no-trespassing requirement throughout construction. There is a lot happening at Deerwood, and it is exciting to see many of the projects we have been planning for quite some time begin to take shape. These investments are about much more than improving our facilities. They are about positioning Deerwood for a strong future while preserving what has made our club and community special for so many years. Message from Director of Sales & Membership, Shannon McQuarry The Future of Golf at Deerwood An exciting new chapter in Deerwood golf is officially underway. As the renovation of our main course begins, we’re building on what already makes Deerwood exceptional while creating an even stronger golf experience for the future. What Sets Deerwood Golf Apart Not all golf courses are built to the same standard. While many local courses were designed primarily as amenities for their surrounding residential communities, Deerwood is a full-length, championship-caliber course with the scale, challenge and design to support tournament-level play. Our history proves it: Deerwood hosted the PGA TOUR’s Greater Jacksonville Open from 1967–1970, the event that ultimately evolved into THE PLAYERS Championship. Just as important is access to that caliber of golf. As you know, Golf Membership is being capped at 300 Memberships, protecting the open tee sheet our Members value—without routinely planning weeks ahead, competing in lotteries for prime times or struggling to play their own course. And now we have The Approach, our new six-hole short course. Designed for everything from a quick round and friendly competition to short-game practice, clinics and social golf, The Approach gives Members an entirely different way to enjoy the game. It’s already been extremely well received and provides a golf experience that further sets Deerwood apart in the Jacksonville market. Taking Deerwood to the Next Level The renovation is officially underway, beginning with the Non-Selective Herbicide Application. But this renovation is about much more than replacing turf. The renovation will modernize and elevate a proven championship course—improving its playability, conditioning and overall golf experience while preserving the character and pedigree that make Deerwood special. When complete, Members will have the combination of a newly renovated championship course, The Approach, outstanding practice and instructional opportunities, and intentionally limited Golf Membership to preserve access. It’s the entire golf experience—not simply a renovated 18 holes—that positions Deerwood to stand apart. Other leading Jacksonville clubs are investing in major course renovations as well, and initiation fees throughout the market continue to rise as clubs invest and demand for private golf grows. With Jacksonville’s continued growth bringing even greater demand for private golf, Deerwood is investing now to ensure we aren’t simply keeping pace—we’re positioning the Club for its strongest golf future yet. Plenty of Golf While We Build What’s Next While the main course is being transformed, Deerwood golfers will have plenty of ways to play, improve and enjoy the game. The Approach will feature expanding weekly and monthly programming, leagues, clinics and events. Members can also use this time to invest in their game through individual lessons or a series of lessons with Mike Broderick, PGA; Mark Tullo, Teaching Professional, Will Rehberg, PGA, and Jordan Sosby, PGA Associate, as well as Travis Fulton and his team. Our Golf Team has secured extensive reciprocal play at private clubs throughout the area, including Amelia National, Atlantic Beach Country Club, Hammock Dunes, Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, Marsh Landing Country Club, San Jose Country Club, Sawgrass Country Club, Timuquana Country Club and many more, along with additional public-access options. Deerwood Travels will take golf even farther, with day trips, weekend trips and domestic and international golf destinations planned. The first trip to Jekyll Island in October already has more than 20 Members committed— combining great golf with travel, friendship and the camaraderie that makes club Membership special.

Message from Director of Sales & Membership, Shannon McQuarry More Ways to Enjoy Your Club This is also a great time to dive into another side of Deerwood. If you’ve ever thought about trying tennis or pickleball, this is a great time to start. Deerwood’s beginner clinics are designed to take someone with little or no experience, teach the fundamentals, and gradually build the skills and confidence to participate in regular play. From there, Members can progress into drop-in clinics, social play and eventually leagues—turning a first lesson into a fun form of exercise, a new social circle, and potentially a lifelong sport and hobby. You can also try one of the many weekly group fitness classes, with options ranging from yoga and Pilates to HIIT, Total Body, Boot Camp, Spin and Zumba. There are plenty of ways to find something you enjoy while staying active and connected at the club. For something completely different, join the Deerwood Book Club. This member-led group meets monthly and chooses its books together, exploring everything from fiction and mystery to biographies, suspense and nonfiction. It’s as much about the conversation and connection as it is the book—and you don’t even have to finish the book to join in. Special meetings can also bring the stories to life through guest speakers and Q&A opportunities, as Members recently experienced with Deerwood resident and author Dr. Douglas W. Johnson. Or become part of Whine Not Wine Club and turn an interest in wine into a true Deerwood social experience. Wine Club brings Members together to taste, discover and learn while enjoying great food and lively conversation. Experiences such as the Spring Wine Fair feature curated wines, tasting stations, chef-prepared pairings and opportunities to discover new favorites—all in a relaxed, social setting with fellow Members. The course may be under renovation, but club life certainly isn’t. This is a great year to try something you’ve never done before, discover a new lifelong interest, meet Members you may not otherwise have met, and experience more of everything that makes Deerwood a community—not simply a golf club. Deerwood already offers championship golf, exceptional access, The Approach, outstanding instruction and a strong golf community. We’re taking everything that already makes golf here special and making it even better. Thank you for your Membership and continued support of Deerwood. Message from Director of Golf, Mike Broderick Golf Course Renovations September is the final month of golf as we have known the course for the last 20 years. Course renovations begin October 5, 2026. During the renovation, the practice tee and The Approach remain open. We’ll continue to enhance our programming at The Approach during the renovation to include weekly games, monthly social activities, and plenty of instructional opportunities to keep you engaged and improving your game. Available Member Play Facilities With the pending renovation, we have secured access for our Member play at the following area clubs. Members must contact the Deerwood Golf Shop to book a tee time at these facilities. Typically, each club would prefer 2-5 days in advance of your requested day. Fall Pickleball League Our Fall Pickleball League is underway, and it has been great to see so many Members back out on the courts competing and having fun. Tennis 101 & Getting Started We recently wrapped up a great Tennis 101 series, with lots of new faces joining us on the courts. We hope everyone enjoyed learning the game as much as we enjoyed teaching it! For anyone who has been thinking about trying tennis, we will now offer an ongoing Tennis 101 session on Tuesday evenings. We will also offer another Tennis and Pickleball 101 series in November. With the golf course renovation coming up, this is a great time to give Racquets a try. Whether you’re completely new to the game or simply looking for something new to do, we have welcoming programs, great instructors, and a fantastic community waiting for you. Junior Tennis Programs Our junior program is off to a fantastic start, with players of all ages and ability levels filling the courts. We work with juniors from ages 4–18, from complete beginners to competitive players with college tennis aspirations. Our goal is to create the right environment for each player to learn, improve, have fun, and reach their individual goals. If your child would like to give tennis a try, please check out the attached flyer or reach out to me directly. We would love to have them join us!

Join us for a fun triples tournament followed by tacos, drinks, music, and a great evening on the Tennis Deck. All levels are welcome, and this is always a great night of pickleball, tennis, food, and fun.

The tournament includes three guaranteed matches, six meals provided by the club, a Saturday player party, an open division with pro and college level players and a player gift for every participant. Message from Director of Food & Beverage, Joseph Bragg As summer begins to wind down, September gives us plenty of reasons to keep the fun going at Deerwood! We have a busy month ahead with Labor Day festivities, a brand-new Tuesday night dining experience, and some very exciting wine events on the calendar. Beginning Tuesday, September 1, we’ll be saying goodbye to Taco Tuesday and welcoming our newest weekly dining experience: Pasta & Pour! Join us Tuesdays from 4:30–7:30PM for classic Italian specialties designed for a fun, fast-paced evening, paired with new and exciting rotating wine selections. I’m looking forward to having some fun with the “Pour” portion each week and introducing you to bottles that pair perfectly with Chef’s menu. Don’t miss our Labor Day Pool Party on Sunday, September 6 and Monday, September 7. Join us poolside for inflatable slides, a DJ, and Chef ’s festive cookout menu featuring some Deerwood favorites—including his famous brisket and pulled pork. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the holiday weekend and close out another great summer at the club. September is shaping up to be a particularly exciting month for our wine lovers. We are thrilled to welcome Château Montelena to Deerwood for a very special pop-up wine dinner on September 10. Château Montelena holds an extraordinary place in American wine history, famously winning the Chardonnay category at the 1976 Judgment of Paris—a landmark tasting that helped establish California as one of the world’s great wine regions. This will be an elevated, limited-availability experience featuring exceptional wines and a menu created specifically for the evening. Due to the exclusive nature of this event, this special pop-up will be separately ticketed and is not included among Wine Not! Wine Club dinner benefits. Keep an eye out for additional details and registration information. On Friday, September 25, Wine Not! Members can join us for our next Wine Not! Wine Club Dinner, led by our partners at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. Be sure to sign up early! Something New for Our Wine Club? As we continue looking at ways to grow and improve the Wine Not Wine Club, I’d love your feedback on another idea we are exploring: private climate-controlled wine storage at the club. We are considering offering Wine Club Members the opportunity to rent a dedicated shelf for the year, providing space to keep whites, sparkling wines, and chillable reds stored at the proper temperature and ready to enjoy whenever you visit Deerwood. If this is something you would be interested in, or if you have thoughts about what you’d like to see from the program, please reach out to me directly. Member feedback will help us determine the level of interest as we continue developing the idea. Did You Know? Wine and Alcohol Purchases Through Deerwood Count Toward Your Food & Beverage Minimum! As we head toward the holiday season, this is a great opportunity to make the most of your minimum while stocking up on favorite wines and spirits. Message from Director of Kids Club, Frank Favale Hello Deerwood Families! September is here, and with school back in session, Kids Club is ready to keep the fun going! While everyone settles into new school-year routines, we want to remind families that our Kids Club hours will remain the same. We know that after a long day of learning, kids still need a place to get out some energy, use their imaginations, and most importantly, spend time socializing and having fun with their friends. We encourage families to use the Deerwood App to make Kids Club reservations in advance. Reserving in advance helps our team prepare for each day and ensures we can provide the best possible experience for every child joining us.

The stage is set, the red carpet is rolled out, and it’s time for our Deerwood stars to shine! We are finally bringing back our beloved Deerwood’s Got Talent! We’ll transform Kids Club into our very own talent showcase, complete with a stage-worthy atmosphere, popcorn, cotton candy, and plenty of cheering. The children provide the most important part, the talent! Whether they want to sing, dance, tell jokes, perform a magic trick, or show off a special skill, every child will have their own moment in the spotlight. We can’t wait to spend the evening celebrating what makes each of our Kids Club kids uniquely talented!

This month’s Storytime selection is the childhood favorite We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Our monthly Storytime is a wonderful opportunity for our younger Deerwood Members to enjoy reading, imagination, and time together at Kids Club.

Our Under the Sea Party will be filled with ocean-inspired crafts, games, and activities. Club Reminders As we head into a busy and fun-filled summer season, we appreciate your help with a few simple reminders. None of these are new or intended to spoil anyone’s fun—quite the opposite. They help keep Deerwood comfortable, orderly, and enjoyable for everyone. Guest Registration Please remember to register all Guests prior to arrival. This allows us to properly prepare, staff accordingly, and avoid any awkward “And who might this be?” moments. Dress Code and Club Etiquette As Arnold Palmer once said, “A gentleman removes his hat in the clubhouse.” While times may have changed, a few standards are still worth maintaining. We kindly ask for your cooperation in upholding appropriate dress and conduct throughout the club. Proper attire is expected for all Members and Guests, whether on the course, courts, pool, or in the clubhouse. 1960 and Poolside Areas 1960 is designed to be a more casual, family-friendly dining space given its proximity to the pool, verandah, and snack bar patio. Swimwear is permitted on the pool deck and snack bar patio only. When entering indoor spaces, we ask that proper cover-ups be worn. Sam’s Place A friendly reminder that Sam’s Place is reserved for Members and Guests age 21 and older. It is intended to be an adult space where the conversation is mature and the atmosphere is relaxed. Children at the Snack Bar Window Summer at Deerwood should absolutely include happy kids and plenty of snack requests. That said, we ask that parents or responsible adults accompany children at all times when visiting the pool or clubhouse, especially when ordering food and beverages at 1960 and the Snack Bar. Having a parent or responsible adult present helps ensure that orders are placed correctly, Member charges are processed correctly, and dietary needs are clearly communicated. Children in the Hot Tub The hot tub is reserved for Members and Guests age 17 and older. This is for both safety and to maintain a more relaxed environment in one small corner of the property. Swim Diapers For our youngest swimmers, please remember to bring swim diapers when needed. They are also available for purchase at the Fitness Desk. This small step helps keep the pool clean and open for everyone and avoids the kind of pool closure story no one wants to be part of. The Deerwood Member Mobile App Our new Mobile App includes a helpful fantastic behind-the-scenes tool called the “Member Name Game,” which is a wonderful instrument to help our Team get to know the Members. To make the most of this feature, please upload a current photo of yourself, and have location services and push notifications enabled! This helps ensure a more personalized experience, from greetings to fantastic service and accurate billing.
