Club Reminders

As we head into a busy and fun-filled summer season, we appreciate your help with a few simple reminders. None of these are new or intended to spoil anyone’s fun—quite the opposite. They help keep Deerwood comfortable, orderly, and enjoyable for everyone.

Guest Registration

Please remember to register all Guests prior to arrival. This allows us to properly prepare, staff accordingly, and avoid any awkward “And who might this be?” moments.

Dress Code and Club Etiquette

As Arnold Palmer once said, “A gentleman removes his hat in the clubhouse.” While times may have changed, a few standards are still worth maintaining. We kindly ask for your cooperation in upholding appropriate dress and conduct throughout the club. Proper attire is expected for all Members and Guests, whether on the course, courts, pool, or in the clubhouse.

1960 and Poolside Areas

1960 is designed to be a more casual, family-friendly dining space given its proximity to the pool, verandah, and snack bar patio. Swimwear is permitted on the pool deck and snack bar patio only. When entering indoor spaces, we ask that proper cover-ups be worn.

Sam’s Place

A friendly reminder that Sam’s Place is reserved for Members and Guests age 21 and older. It is intended to be an adult space where the conversation is mature and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Children at the Snack Bar Window

Summer at Deerwood should absolutely include happy kids and plenty of snack requests. That said, we ask that parents or responsible adults accompany children at all times when visiting the pool or clubhouse, especially when ordering food and beverages at 1960 and the Snack Bar. Having a parent or responsible adult present helps ensure that orders are placed correctly, Member charges are processed correctly, and dietary needs are clearly communicated.

Children in the Hot Tub

The hot tub is reserved for Members and Guests age 17 and older. This is for both safety and to maintain a more relaxed environment in one small corner of the property.

Swim Diapers

For our youngest swimmers, please remember to bring swim diapers when needed. They are also available for purchase at the Fitness Desk. This small step helps keep the pool clean and open for everyone and avoids the kind of pool closure story no one wants to be part of.

Pets at the Club

While we love our pets, only service animals trained to assist people with disabilities are permitted on club property.

The Deerwood Member Mobile App

Our new Mobile App includes a helpful fantastic behind-the-scenes tool called the “Member Name Game,” which is a wonderful instrument to help our Team get to know the Members. To make the most of this feature, please upload a current photo of yourself, and have location services and push notifications enabled! This helps ensure a more personalized experience, from greetings to fantastic service and accurate billing.

Thank you, as always, for your support of these simple but important standards. The Team truly enjoys seeing and serving you at the club and your support helps us avoid putting our Team in the uncomfortable position of having to deliver these reminders in the moment.

Deer Deerwood

Message from General Manager, Thayer Kern

Deer Deerwood,

Welcome to May!

This is one of those wonderful times of year when the club begins to hum a little louder, the days are longer, the pool is calling, and the pace of life starts to feel a bit more like summer.

Before we get too far into the season, I’d like to take a moment to recognize two very special groups in our community.

Happy Mother’s Day

First, happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures in our Deerwood family. Thank you for the love, patience, wisdom, and steady presence you bring to your families and to our club. You do more than anyone probably notices, and certainly more than anyone properly thanks you for, so let me say it here: we are grateful for you. We hope your Mother’s Day is filled with joy, appreciation, and perhaps a few uninterrupted moments of peace and quiet, which I understand may be the greatest gift of all.

Class of 2026

To our Class of 2026 graduates, congratulations! We are proud of you and all you have accomplished. This is an exciting milestone and one that deserves to be celebrated. You are fortunate to be part of a community filled with entrepreneurs, business leaders, professional athletes, and many other accomplished individuals, all of whom are cheering you on and hoping to see you do great things. I encourage you to lean on the wisdom, guidance, and recommendations of your fellow Deerwoodians. There is a great deal of knowledge within this community, and, as you may have already noticed, no shortage of opinions, so you may as well put both to good use.

As Frank Sinatra so wonderfully sang, “The best is yet to come.”

Wishing all of our mothers a very happy Mother’s Day, our graduates heartfelt congratulations, and to everyone a terrific start to the summer season.

Cheers, Thayer

Membership Corner

Message from Director of Sales & Membership, Shannon McQuarry

Spring has arrived, and with summer just around the corner, Deerwood is entering one of the most vibrant and enjoyable times of the year. The club truly shines in the summer months, offering something for everyone—whether you’re looking to stay active, relax with family, or simply spend time with friends.

A Look Around the Club

Our resort-style, zero-entry pool is ready for Members of all ages and is quickly becoming the place to be on warm afternoons. It’s the perfect setting to unwind, cool off, and enjoy everything from casual family time to poolside dining. Inside, the newly renovated Fitness Center is fully complete, including beautiful new spaces for our massage therapists and estheticians, allowing them to continue providing the exceptional services our members love in an even more elevated environment. With over 30 instructor-led fitness classes available, it’s easy to stay active all summer long.

Courtside

Out on the courts, tennis and pickleball continue to be hubs of activity, with lessons, leagues, clinics, and monthly socials bringing Members together in a fun and engaging way. And when the temperatures rise, our courts are lit until 10PM, making evening play a perfect way to stay active while beating the heat.

Golf

Golf remains just as active this season, with our ladies’ clinics in full swing and a full calendar of events designed to keep players engaged and competitive throughout the summer, including favorites like the Men’s Senior MemberGuest, our Father’s Day Generations Tournament, the Firecracker Open, and the Deerwood Cup. Looking ahead, we are especially excited about the addition of our new 6-hole short course, The Approach, set to open ahead of the full golf course renovation. Designed as a fun, fast-paced par-3 experience, it will offer Members the opportunity to enjoy a few quick swings when time is limited, while also creating an inviting and accessible environment for golfers of all ages and skill levels. As one of only a handful of courses like it in the region, it will be a fantastic addition to Deerwood’s year-round golf experience.

Youth Programs

Summer at Deerwood is also all about family, and we are excited for another incredible season of youth programming. Our Junior Racquets Summer Camps will offer full- and half-day options for ages 4–18, with tennis instruction, games, themed weeks, and poolside lunches, creating a fun and engaging experience for all levels. In addition, our Summer Camp will run from June 8 - July 30, offering eight full weeks of unique themes, creative activities, and outdoor fun, one more week than last year. Early registration is encouraged as these programs fill quickly every season. And of course, the Torpedoes Swim Team is ready to dive into another exciting and competitive summer.

Social

The social side of the club is just as strong this time of year. From Book Club and Chef Hacks to game nights and live music at Sam’s, there are countless ways to stay connected and enjoy the Deerwood community. Both Sam’s and 1960 are now open on Saturday evenings, making it even easier to gather with friends and family and enjoy a great night at the club.

Our Culinary Team is introducing fresh, seasonal features that highlight bright spring flavors, perfect for relaxed lunches or evenings spent with friends and family. Be sure to keep an eye out for new menu additions and chef-inspired specials throughout the month.

We look forward to seeing you around the club!

With Gratitude,

Food & Beverage

Message from Director of Food & Beverage, Joseph

Dear Members,

As we welcome the heart of spring here at the club, it’s an exciting time for Food & Beverage. With longer days, beautiful weather, and a renewed energy around the property, our Team has been hard at work creating experiences that bring everyone together.

We are thrilled to share the return of Saturday Evening Dining, offering another opportunity to gather, unwind, and enjoy a great meal with friends and family. Additionally, we’re excited to bring back a member favorite—Taco Tuesdays—kicking off this month on Cinco de Mayo. It’s the perfect way to add a little fun and flavor to your week!

Cinco de Mayo Tequila Tasting

To celebrate, we’ll be hosting a Cinco de Mayo Tequila Tasting on the Patio, creating a lively atmosphere to enjoy great spirits and even better company.

Looking Ahead

We invite you to join us for our Old World Wine Tasting on Thursday, May 21, as well as our always-anticipated Memorial Day BBQ, a staple event that brings the club together to kick off summer in style.

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been focused on enhancing your everyday dining experience. With the rollout of our new menus, you’ll notice fresh flavors, exciting dishes, and a renewed culinary direction. We’ve taken your feedback from the recent F&B Survey to heart, and are proud to continue shaping our offerings around what matters most—you, our Members.

Spring is truly one of the most enjoyable times of year at the club, and we look forward to sharing it with you through great food, engaging events, and memorable experiences. We’ll see you around the club!

Warm regards,

Golf News

Following a very successful spring, we look forward to an exciting summer of programming, with a strong focus on junior golf, social golf, and, of course, dodging the occasional lightning delay. The golf course will remain open through Monday, October 5, 2026 , and we have adjusted our traditional schedule to accommodate all major tournaments.

Men’s & Women’s Club Championships | Friday, May 8 - Saturday, May 9

With all competitions taking place over the same weekend, men competing for the Club Champion title will play 18 holes on Friday, alongside all other championships, followed by 36 holes on Saturday. All other participants will complete their championships with morning tee times on Saturday.

Mark Your Calendars

The 3rd Annual Men’s Senior Member-Guest, The Stag, will take place in June and registration is now open! The Deerwood Cup, our Ryder Cup-style event, will be held in July. We hope you have this popular event marked on your calendar. Additionally, as we are not planning a full course closure for aerification this year due to the renovation, Members can continue to enjoy quality play throughout the summer.

Mixed Twilight Golf | Thursdays | 5:30PM

This event is designed to be welcoming for new players while remaining fun and engaging for all, using a simple scramble format. As the season progresses and play volume allows, formats may vary between two-, four-, or six-person scrambles. Each evening concludes with appetizers in the clubhouse. We hope your travel and social schedules allow you to participate.

Red, White & Brew Tournament | Monday, May 25 | 9AM Shotgun | Four-Person Shamble

At the end of May, we will host our annual Red, White & Brew Tournament, a Memorial Day tradition. In recent years, we have added a fundraising component to support the Folds of Honor Foundation. To register, please call the Golf Shop to sign up your group or to be paired with others. This event is open to all members with golf privileges and an active handicap.

Junior Golf Clinics | Sundays | 11AM - 12PM

Junior Golf at Deerwood Country Club continues to grow through our weekly clinics If you have a junior interested in learning the game, or visiting Guests seeking instruction, please contact the golf shop to register.

2026 Summer Golf Camps | June 16–19, June 30–July 3, July 14–17 and July 28–31

We will offer Summer Golf Camps, running Tuesday - Friday from 8-10:30AM, for juniors ages 5 and up. Clubs can be provided, and all skill levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome. Camps incorporate a variety of athletic movements, drawing connections from sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis to help develop the golf swing in a fun and engaging way. Camps are $200 per week, per participant. Families with multiple juniors benefit from adjusted pricing: $350 per week for two juniors and $525 per week for three juniors.

This Month’s Policy Reminder Focuses on Proper Use of Club Facilities

Restrooms are available at the clubhouse, as well as near holes #5 and #15, providing convenient access throughout the course. We ask that Members and Guests please consider using these facilities and stop urinating in backyards, as using the edges of private property along the course is not appropriate and creates tension with our neighbors.

The golf course is also a beautiful setting for walking, whether with friends, family, or pets. For safety reasons, please be mindful that the Maintenance Team begins work before sunrise and that golfers may be on the course. Non-golf activities such as walking, biking, or fishing should be limited to dawn and dusk hours.

Finally, if you are not receiving golf course updates, please check your spam folder and search your inbox for “noreply@golfgenius.com.”

Best regards,

Racquet Sports News

Message from Director of Racquet Sports, Till von Winning

We are officially heading into our summer season at Deerwood Racquets, and we’re excited to spend quality time on and off the courts with all of you.

Deerwood Derby Tennis Member-Guest

Our premier racquets event, the Deerwood Derby Tennis Member-Guest, is taking place the first weekend of May. We would love to see everyone out there, whether you’re competing or simply spectating. It promises to be a fantastic weekend, beginning with our Casino Kickoff Party at 1960 on April 30, followed by great tennis, food, and drinks throughout Friday and Saturday, and concluding with a lively Derby Party on Saturday evening. We hope you’ll join us for this signature event on and around the courts.

Our ladies’ teams are wrapping up their season this month, and it has been a pleasure to watch everyone compete, improve, and represent Deerwood over the past nine months. All teams performed very well, and we’re already looking forward to the next season, which begins in August. If you’re not currently on a team but are interested in joining, we strongly encourage you to get involved. We offer teams for all levels, from beginner to advanced, so there is a great fit for everyone.

Junior Tennis Summer Camps

We’re also looking forward to an exciting summer with our junior players during our 10-week Tennis Summer Camps. With a mix of on-court instruction, games, poolside lunches, and fun activities, it’s a great experience for kids of all ages and skill levels. Open to players ages 4–18, our program is designed for everyone, from beginners picking up a racquet for the first time to those with competitive college tennis aspirations.

In addition, we have a number of fun social events planned over the coming months, and we hope you’ll join us. Mark your calendars for our upcoming racquets socials:

Friday, June 5 at 6PM

Saturday, July 11 at 9AM

Friday, August 7 at 6PM

These events will feature tennis and pickleball round robins, followed by food and drinks on the tennis deck. We are also planning to bring back our pickleball league later this summer; more details coming soon.

May Vitality: Dive Into Your Routine ☀️

May is officially here, and the energy is shifting! The days are longer, the sun is finally sticking around, and there’s no better time to refresh your routine. Whether you’re hitting the gym floor or joining us for a sweat session in the studio, this month is all about momentum.

May Consistency Over Perfection Focus

It’s easy to get caught up in the “summer body” rush, but we’re playing the long game. This month, challenge yourself to simply show up.

In the Gym: Focus on one “big lift” (squats or deadlifts) and aim to improve your form or add 2.5 lbs each week.

In the Studio: Try a class you’ve never done before! Step out of your comfort zone with some high-energy HIIT or find your flow in a weekend Yoga session.

Lift Weights Before Cardio

Scientific research suggests that lifting weights before doing cardio can improve muscle power and endurance while aiding in body fat reduction. Doing cardio first can drain energy needed for heavy lifting.

Pool Season is Officially Here!

The wait is over—the pool deck is open! Whether you’re looking for a low-impact cardio session or a relaxing cool-down after a heavy lift, the water is calling.

Swim Sets: Swap one treadmill session a week for laps to build incredible lung capacity and endurance.

Pro-Tip: Recovery is Key

With the weather warming up, don’t forget to supplement your workouts with some “active recovery.” A 20-minute walk in the fresh air or a light swim does wonders for your mental health and muscle soreness.

Best regards,

Message from Director of Kids Club, Frank Favale

Dear Deerwood Families,

As spring begins to wind down, we can’t help but feel the excitement building for an unforgettable summer ahead! The Kids Club has been buzzing with energy, and we’re so grateful to see so many familiar faces enjoying all the fun. With longer days and warmer weather just around the corner, we’re gearing up for some of our favorite programs of the year.

Keepsake Corner | Tuesday, May 12

One highlight we’re especially proud of is our Keepsake Corner. Last month’s session was such a special experience, giving families the opportunity to slow down, get creative, and make something meaningful together. (Be sure to check out the photo from our last class!) Our upcoming Keepsake Corner will be Mother’s Day-themed , where children can create something for mom or with mom, making it an extra-special shared experience. It’s the perfect blend of creativity, connection, and memories that last forever.

Beyond Triathlon Viewing Event

A Special Thank You to Dottie Dorion

We would like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Dottie Dorion for her wonderful and generous presentation, Beyond Triathlon, in April.

It was a fantastic evening that beautifully reflected the spirit of Deerwood as both a club and a community. For more than 50 years, Dottie has been a Deerwood resident and an inspiring force in philanthropy, athletics, and civic life.

We are incredibly fortunate to have such a remarkable woman in our midst, someone who continues to show us that inspiration, purpose, and a little competitive fire do not fade with time.

Thank you, Dottie, for sharing your story and for continuing to make Deerwood proud.
