We played out a 1-1 draw with today’s opposition at Ascot Racecourse back in August. That was already our third league draw of the season out of seven matches, winning the others. We were not to know then that habit of winning games that we could, would elude us so often during the season. We now have eight draws , but eleven losses. Almost all losses in games where we created enough chances to win. No heavy defeats as in seasons gone by. But having an impressive goal difference for a mid-table team, does not get you near enough to the play-off places. Berks County have an impressive scoring record, with almost 20 more goals than us. They have played more games than four of the top five teams, except PFC Victoria who they could even catch today. I’m sure that will be on our visitors’ minds this afternoon. It is up to us to be ready to deal with that?
After moving up to tenth after Tuesday’s win, we then slipped back one place the following evening. When adjacent to the A3, Colliers Wood raced into a five-goal lead to overtake us. Only to endure a comeback from the struggling Spelthorne Sports, conceding four goals! That narrow loss sees Spelthorne slip into the three supposed relegation places, with FCD Galicia and Spartans Youth currently benefitting. Our own aim must be to get as near to last season’s seventh place and points total as a possible. The points target may not be achievable because of our draws and narrow losses mentioned above, but seventh place surely is with 13 games left? Another home game on Tuesday, against Wembley. Another club just above us in position, but ten points ahead instead of twenty like Berks County. But Wembley have five games in hand over our opponents today.
Don’t forget Thursday’s game here too. The Allied U-18 XI have done brilliantly to reach the Semis of their League Cup? They face Hartley Wintney from Hampshire. No as far away than it sounds for them to travel. It’s not far south of Reading? As ever, please enjoy the game today…………John Anderson

Berks County FC is a community football club with over 35 youth teams and both Men’s and Women’s First Team designed to create an aspirational goal for our younger club players. The Club was founded from two clubs in 2009 by merging the junior teams of Sunninghill Saints and the Senior teams of Bracknell Rovers. The Men’s first team initially played in the Thames Valley League. Lee Simpson and Ellis Woods joined the club with the aspiration to develop the Men’s first team and in 2021 they were admitted into Combined Counties Division One. In the 2022-23 season they reached the play-off’s but were unable to progress. However, in 2023-24 season after some close play-off games they were promoted to the Combined Counties Premier Division North. Reaching Step 5 was a great achievement for the club and unlocked many new opportunities such as playing in the FA Cup for the first time. The team return to Division One for the 2025-26 season after narrowly missing out on survival by goal difference, but remain positive about the new campaign under newly appointed joint managers Ben Hall and Dan Money.
The First Team have a ground share agreement with Ascot United and play at the Racecourse Ground. The junior section is primarily based around the Ascot/Sunningdale area with pitches across multiple locations.
