With both today’s sides enjoying 4-0 home wins on Saturday, County moved into the play off places. Despite the three other clubs immediately above us before kick-off all losing as well as previously 5th-placed Woodley, we did not move up at all. A consequence of what I referred to in Saturday’s programme notes, too many winning positions not closed out, and too many single goal losses in winnable games.
At the bottom of the table, Woodley’s loss at home to Chalfont St Peter not only gives hope of survival to our Bucks neighbours. It also ensures that Spartans Youth and Deportivo Galicia must not let up. Or they will replace a resurgent Chalfont in the bottom three. It is Sandhurst Town, the side who won this division three seasons ago, who are really in trouble along with RB Kensington. RB’s win against Brook House was somehow put in perspective by “The Brooks” apparent meek capitulation to us here on Saturday. I should say that I make that remark not having seen the game, and awaiting Martin’s match report.
The Sandhurst situation is somewhat surprising? When they were promoted, it looked as if they could push on with Bracknell Town sharing their location and in a different league. When will the FA stop the ridiculous and bizarre situation where a player can sign and play for as many clubs as you like as long as they are in different League. A situation that can certainly distort outcomes of many games at the lower levels of the NLS pyramid?
By the time this issue is published, we will know if our Women’s team can win the Thames Valley Counties “Dev” division. Two days ago, Wraysbury beat Arborfield 3-1. Our Women’s XI now need to beat Arborfield away this Sunday and hope Wraysbury do not win their last game. Whatever the eventual outcome, our resurrected team (having lost last season’s players to a predatory neighbour) have done really well to regroup with a new side.
As ever, please enjoy the game………………John Anderson

Combined Counties Football League-Division One. @ Sunday am 22/3/26

Berks County FC is a community football club with over 35 youth teams and both Men’s and Women’s First Team designed to create an aspirational goal for our younger club players. The Club was founded from two clubs in 2009 by merging the junior teams of Sunninghill Saints and the Senior teams of Bracknell Rovers. The Men’s first team initially played in the Thames Valley League. Lee Simpson and Ellis Woods joined the club with the aspiration to develop the Men’s first team and in 2021 they were admitted into Combined Counties Division One. In the 2022-23 season they reached the play-off’s but were unable to progress. However, in 2023-24 season after some close play-off games they were promoted to the Combined Counties Premier Division North. Reaching Step 5 was a great achievement for the club and unlocked many new opportunities such as playing in the FA Cup for the first time. The team return to Division One for the 2025-26 season after narrowly missing out on survival by goal difference, but remain positive about the new campaign under newly appointed joint managers Ben Hall and Dan Money.
The First Team have a ground share agreement with Ascot United and play at the Racecourse Ground. The junior section is primarily based around the Ascot/Sunningdale area with pitches across multiple locations.
