By Peter Covino Lifestyles Editor One of the most special evenings in Central Florida returns to Walt Disney World Saturday, May 4, at the 21st Annual Chef’s Gala. The premier dining event also is a major fundraiser for the Heart of Florida United Way. This year’s event co-chairs are Simon Hemus, President/COO Tupperware Brands Corporation; and Dr. Antonia Novello, Executive Director, Public Health Policy, Florida Hospital. The event is from 6:45 - 8:15 p.m. The event schedule: 6:45 p.m. Champagne served & Martini Bar Opens - Silent Auction begins 7:30 - 10 p.m. - Chefs begin serving. The gala attracts more than 1,000 people each year. Last year’s event raised a record-setting $219,175 to help people in need. Walt Disney World underwrites almost the full cost of the gala, so 95 percent of dollars raised go directly to help local health and human service programs. “Over the past two decades, Chef’s Gala has raised more than $2 million and has grown to become Central Florida’s premier food and wine pairing charitable event,” said United Way President and CEO Robert H. (Bob) Brown. Last year’s success “is a true testament to the generosity of Disney and so many other outstanding partners and individuals. We are deeply grateful for their trust, compassion and support,” he said. Recognized as the region’s premier food and wine pairing event, Chef’s Gala features great creations from more than 20 of Central Florida’s top chefs and establishments, along with thoughtfully paired fine wines, live music and an elegant silent auction.
