Book early for single rooms
Some guests love choosing a particular room, for the view, a quiet spot in an annexe, or to be close to the dining room. Many return to the same room time and again, creating a familiar and comforting sense of place for only £30 per room.
All of our houses offer a selection of single rooms, both classic and premium. It’s a popular option, so booking well in advance is recommended. HF Members benefit from supplement-free classic single rooms too.
Excellent value full-board breaks
Three meals a day are always included at our country houses, from hearty breakfasts and personalised picnics, to sociable dinners shared around large tables where conversation and camaraderie become part of the holiday experience.

Seasonal dining, tailored for you
Our team of skilled chefs design our dinner menus to showcase the best of each season, from warming winter comfort food to vibrant summer dishes, including vegetarian, vegan and high-protein options.
We also source fruit and vegetables within a 40-mile radius of each house, open every break with a Chef’s Special menu inspired by the flavours and dishes of the region, and are able to adapt dishes to suit special dietary requirements.
Welcome cream tea
What better way to start your stay than with a cream tea, served fresh on arrival, to make you feel instantly at home. A quintessentially English tradition, our scones are baked in-house and served with preserves and clotted cream, providing the perfect opportunity to meet fellow holidaymakers.
Our famous picnic lunch
Our personalised picnic lunches are ideal for a day out, ready to enjoy when hunger strikes. Choose from a large selection of fresh sandwiches and salads, freshly baked cakes and snacks, including the ever-popular Freddo chocolate bar! Everything is designed to fit neatly into your rucksack, and all of the packaging we provide is recyclable or compostable.

A hearty breakfast to start the day
Start the day with a freshly-prepared cooked breakfast and a wide choice from our continental buffet, including hot drinks, juices and fresh fruit. Our teams offer a quick and friendly service, leaving you fuelled and ready for your day’s adventures.
3-course evening meals
Our à la carte evening menus feature a wide choice of starters, mains, and desserts, made with seasonal ingredients and, wherever possible, herbs and vegetables from our own gardens. Around shared dining tables, dinners are relaxed occasions, with drinks available to order at the table or from the bar, and a traditional Sunday roast to round off the week.
Guided Walking Holidays at HF Country Houses

With experienced HF Leaders and a choice of daily walks to suit your pace and interests, plus shared dining and sociable evenings, you will feel part of a welcoming community that values good conversations as much as great views.

Every leader completes comprehensive training and assessment, including first aid certification, so you can feel fully supported whether you are enjoying a gentle countryside stroll or taking on a more challenging trail. Flexible daily walking choices
Choose from up to three walks every walking day
What truly sets us apart is the freedom to shape each day around your interests, fitness, and energy levels. Thanks to our volunteer HF Leaders, you can choose from one of three walks on HF Country House Guided Walking holidays:
4 Up to three differently graded daily walks
4 Each walk led by a different HF Leader
4 Flexibility to pick walks that match your fitness, pace, or points of interest
4 Ideal for mixed groups: combine guided and self-guided holidays while sharing a room
4 Come back together for breakfast, evening meals, and sociable evenings
Walking grades to suit you

We offer 6 different grades of walks, each graded on a scale of 1 to 6, with 1 being the most gentle and 6 the most challenging. The available walking grades are clearly shown on the individual holiday descriptions, and the number of icons indicates the number of walks you can choose from each walking day of your holiday. Leaders host ‘walk talks’ the evening before to explain routes in detail and help you choose with confidence.
Walk at a relaxed pace, often spending time at places of interest en-route. Walking experience isn’t necessary.
Good paths but walks are a bit longer. Some walks, particularly in mountain areas, may have sections over rough or steeper terrain.
Well-defined footpaths in hilly, upland or rugged coastal areas. Reasonable fitness required for rough or steep sections.

Long distances in remote countryside on rough terrain. Sustained ascents/descents, including scree & steep ground.
Good fitness required for rocky terrain with sustained ascents/descents. Walks may include high summits & ridges.
High levels of fitness & stamina required. Challenging walks will be long & strenuous in difficult mountain terrain.
Volunteer Field Advisors
Our Field Advisors in the UK carefully research, plan, and devise the routes we offer, personally walking each one to ensure every step is safe, well-maintained, and rewarding.
They assess path conditions, check signage, and identify the best viewpoints, picnic spots, and points of interest. Their meticulous work ensures our guests enjoy walks that are packed with scenic beauty, local stories, and all the small details that turn a good walk into a truly memorable one.

Changes to travelling to Europe from the UK
A new entry & exit system (EES)
From 12 October 2025, the EU began rolling out a new digital Entry/Exit System (EES), replacing passport stamping for UK travellers entering the Schengen Area. At your first EES border crossing, you will need to provide fingerprints and a photo at a self-service kiosk or with a border officer. You do not need to complete anything before you travel, and there is no fee. The rollout is gradual until April 2026, and travellers should expect possible delays during busy periods as the system is phased in. We recommend checking the latest guidance at travel-europe.europa.eu/ees for more information, including a list of countries in the Schengen area.
A European Travel Information & Authorisation System
Not yet live, the EU expects to introduce ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System), a new digital travel authorisation required for visa-exempt travellers, including UK nationals, in late 2026, but it will not become mandatory until early 2027. It is a €20 digital travel authorisation (similar to the US ESTA), valid for three years, and there is no fee for travellers under 18 or over 70. We recommend checking the latest guidance at travel-europe.europa.eu/en/etias.
Our experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly Sales & Support team is available to answer any specific questions and can offer guidance on the holiday best suited to your needs.
We are open Monday to Friday 9am – 5.30pm and Saturday & Bank Holidays: 9am – 1pm. Please note our phone lines are closed on Sunday.
Becoming an HF Holidays member
You can become an HF Holidays member with a one-off purchase of a minimum of 100 x £1 shares.
Membership gives you a range of benefits, including a £30 discount on every UK holiday, £50 on every European holiday, and £80 on every worldwide holiday. For more information, turn to pages 2-3 or visit hfholidays.co.uk/membership.
If you already have a booking when you join, the member discount will be applied to that booking. Please note this cannot be applied to holidays that have already been taken.
