Three past campers awarded scholarships
A message from President and CEO
COMFORT – Three Hermann Sons Life past campers were each awarded the 2023 Hermann Sons Youth Camp-Shannon Leigh Gaffney Scholarship. The three recipients of the $1,000 scholarship are Kaitlyn Kostelnik, a member of Needville Lodge, Tamara Otto a member of Schulenburg Lodge and Ashlyn Pesek, a member of Shiner Lodge. The scholarship fund was created in memory of Shannon Leigh Gaffney, a former camper and counselor who passed away in 1998 at the age of 21 after losing her battle with leukemia. An annual golf tournament is held each spring to benefit the scholarship fund. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be a member in good standing and a past camper, complete an application and write an essay titled, “How being a Hermann Sons Life camper shaped the person I am today.”
