KCC TURF
Dear Members, July has certainly tested both golfers and turfgrass alike. Although we received approximately two inches of rainfall last week, much of Westchester County remains under moderate drought conditions. The month began with four consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, followed by another stretch of 90-degree weather this week. The combination of prolonged heat, long summer days, and limited rainfall has made maintaining healthy playing surfaces particularly challenging.Despite these conditions, I am pleased with how well the golf course has performed this summer. We were able to maintain the firm, fast playing conditions that everyone enjoys throughout the spring and into the early part of June. While the recent heat has caused some isolated stress on a few putting greens, as well as some thinning in select fairway and approach areas, the overall condition of the golf course remains strong. Over the next several weeks, we will continue plugging and repairing the small areas affected by heat stress on the greens. This proactive work will help restore uniform turf coverage and ensure these areas recover as quickly as possible.
