Even in the dry season there is beauty to be found on a savanna especially as the sun slowly glides towards the horizon and softly caresses each surface along the way. As it slips out of sight on this day, it sends forth a final burst of purple color as a beautiful denouement. A witness to this journey, the mother and baby elephant seem to be sending a final salute to their celestial companion as their bodies provide a reflective canvas for the shimmering colors around them.

An octopus spends most of its solitary life living in a den only emerging at night to hunt for food. While a rock or random crevice is a common choice for a den, this octopus has clearly picked the equivalent of a luxury condo. A conch shell painted in fishnet colors reflective of the aquatic realm as well as pearlized paint and 24k gold accents make for a grand sanctuary.

With echoes of caryatids, the draped female figures used as columns in ancient Greek architecture, Herend’s sculptor has created a compote supported by three elegant seahorses with draping as well - albeit with a pattern alluding to the intricate armored plates that cover their bodies. Once this piece was given to the painting studio, the artists added to the story by decorating each seahorse in a slightly different fishnet color palette reflecting their maritime home. To complete the beautiful scene, the clam shell’s core is painted in shimmering pearlized paint with the outer shell in a blue that pulls the whole exquisite composition together.
