Hepatitis C & Diabetes Hepatitis C is inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Diabetes is a chronic disease where there's too much glucose in your blood. Type 1 diabetes happens when your body can’t produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when your body can’t make enough insulin, or use it properly. Insulin is produced by the pancreas. No Hep C

People living with chronic hepatitis C are at higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Studies have shown that they can be up to three times more likely to develop diabetes than those without hepatitis C.
