The catwalk is part of Getty PST ART: Art & Science Collide, and coincides with the Autry’s new exhibition, Future Imaginaries: Indigenous Art, Fashion, Technology, currently on view; the exhibition features some 58 works by artists including Wendy Red Star, Virgil Ortiz, and Andy Everson—all of whom showcase works that use contemporary indigenous technology to envision a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The fashion show, however, highlighted the best of what indigenous fashion is today— showcasing how a group of fashion designers are using their traditional crafts in new, unexpected ways. “The Getty Fashion Show is a groundbreaking event, elevating indigenous fashion to the global stage and presenting designers at one of the world’s most prestigious art institutions,” Bear Robe told Vogue. “Their work exemplifies innovation and creativity, combining indigenous art and knowledge with contemporary design.”
