‘TherecentlyproposedRoadInjuryChainofSurvivalframeworkprovidesastructurefor mappingdataneedsacrossfivesequentiallinks:EarlyRecognition,EarlyRescue,Early InitialCare,EarlyTransport,andEarlyHospitalCare&Rehabilitation.Thisstudyaimsto identifyanddescribenationalandmajorregionalroadinjurydatasetsworldwideandto assesstheircoverageagainstanovelRICS-derivedsub-indicatorframework.
Thisglobalauditofroadinjurydatasetsrevealsextensivefragmentationacrossthepostcollisioncarecontinuum.Fewsystemslinkcrash,rescue,prehospital,andhospitaldata, severelylimitingopportunitiesforqualityimprovementandoutcomeevaluation. Developmentofharmonised,interoperabledatasetsalignedwiththeRoadInjuryChainof Survivalisessentialtoenablebenchmarking,guideinvestment,andimproveoutcomes fromroadinjuryworldwide’
TheBystanderSafetyDelphiStudy
TheBystanderSafetyDelphistudyhasnowbeencompleted,bringing togetheraninternationalpanelofsubjectmatterexpertsfrom emergencyservices,healthcare,roadsafety,academia,andlived experience.Throughastructuredconsensusprocess,thestudy identifiedkeyprinciplestosupportsafeandeffectivebystander responsefollowingroadtrafficcollisions.
ThefinaloutputcomprisesasetofScenePrinciples,describingactions andbehavioursthatmayguidebystandersattheroadside,alongside SystemPrinciplesthathighlightthewidereducational,organisational, andpolicyfactorsneededtosupportthem.Together,thesefindings provideafoundationforfuturepubliceducation,training,andsystem developmentaimedatstrengtheningtheearlieststagesoftheRoad InjuryChainofSurvival.

Oneofthekeyambitionsofthecentrehasalwaysbeentoensure thatresearchfindingstranslateintomeaningfulimprovementsin real-worldpost-collisioncare.Wearedelightedtobesupporting therolloutoftheIMPACTExtricationCourseacrossagrowing numberoforganisations,includingShropshireFireandRescue Service,whereallwholetimeandretainedfirefightersarebeing providedwithaccesstothetraining.Alongsidethis,weareleading acounty-wide,multi-agencyimplementationprogrammeinDevon, bringingtogetherambulance,fireandrescue,policeandother stakeholderstoexplorehowbesttoembedevidence-based extricationprinciplesintoroutinepractice.Bothprogrammeswill contributetoongoingevaluationwork,helpingusbetterunderstand theimpactoftrainingonoperationaldecision-making,resource utilisationandpatientcare
