AVOIDACCIDENTS

Mostaccidentsandinjuriesoccurringinindustry,on thefarm,athomeorontheroad,arecausedbythe failureofsomeindividualtofollowsimpleandfundamentalsafetyrulesorprecautions.Forthisreason, MOSTACCIDENTSCANBEPREVENTEDbyrecognizingtherealcauseandtakingthenecessaryprecautions,beforetheaccidentoccurs.

Regardlessofthecareusedindesignandconstruction ofanytypeofequipment,theremaybeconditionsthat cannotbecompletelysafeguardedagainstwithout interferingwithreasonableaccessibilityandefficient operation.

Acarefuloperatoristhebestinsuranceagainstaccidents.Thecompleteobservanceofonesimplerule wouldpreventmanythousandsseriousinjurieseach year.

SAFETYRULES

-Donotallowunauthorisedpersonneltooperateservice ormaintainthismachine.

-Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,looseor hangingapparels,suchasties,tornclothing,scarves, unbuttonedorunzippedjacketsthatcancatchonmovingparts.Wearpropersafetyequipmentasrecommendedforthejob.Examples:hardhat,heavygloves, earprotection,safetyglassesorgoggles,reflectorvests, respirator.Consultyouremployerforspecificsafety equipmentrequirements.

-Keepoperator’scompartment,steppingpoints,grabrailsandhandlesclearofforeignobjects,oil,grease, mudorsnowaccumulationtominimizethedangerof slippingorstumbling. Cleanmudorgreasefromshoesbeforeattemptingto mountoroperatethemachine.

-Donotjumponoroffthemachine.Keeptwohandsand onefoot,ortwofeetandonehandincontactwithstep grabrailsandhandlesatalltimes.

-Donotusecontrolsorhosesashandholdswhen climbingonoroffmachine.Hosesandcontrolsare movableanddonotprovideasolidsupport.Controls alsomaybeinadvertentlymovedcausingaccidental machineorequipmentmovement.

-Neverattempttooperatethemachineoritstoolsfrom anypositionotherthanseatedintheoperator’sseat.

-Keephead,body,limbs,handsandfeetinsideoperator’scompartmentatalltimestoreduceexposureto hazardsoutsidetheoperator’scompartment.

-Becarefulofslipperyconditionsonsteppingpoints, handrails,andontheground.Wearsafetybootsor shoesthathaveahighslipresistantsolematerial.

-Donotleavethemachineuntilitiscompletelystopped.

-Checktheseatsafetybeltatleasttwiceayear.Ifthere aresignsofwearorfrayingorothersignsofweakness thatcouldleadtofailure,replaceit.

STARTING

-NEVERSTARTOROPERATEANUNSAFEMACHINE. Beforeoperatingamachine,alwaysensurethatany unsafeconditionhasbeensatisfactorilyremedied.

-Checkbrakes,steeringandattachmentcontrolsbefore moving.Advisethepropermaintenanceauthorityofany malfunctioningpartorsystem.

-Besureallprotectiveguardsorpanelsareinplace,and allsafetydevicesprovidedareinplaceandingood operatingconditions.

-Besureexposedpersonnelintheareaofoperationare clearofthemachinebeforemovingitoritsattachments. WALKCOMPLETELYAROUNDthemachinebefore mounting.Soundhorn.Obeyflagman,safetysignals andsigns.

-Beforestartingmachine,check,adjustandlockthe operator’sseatformaximumcomfortandcontrolofthe machine.

-Fastenyourseatbelt(whenprovided).

-Obeyallflagsignalsandsigns.

-Duetothepresenceonthemachineofflammablefluids, nevercheckorfillfuelreservoirsorbatteriesnearopen flames,smokingmaterialsorsparks.

-REMEMBERTHATSTARTINGFLUIDISFLAMMABLE. Followrecommendationsprintedoncontainersandin theOperationandMaintenanceManual.

-DONOTPUNCTUREORBURNCONTAINERS.

-Containersmustbestoredinfresh,wellventilated places,outofreachofunauthorisedpersons.Follow strictlytheinstructionsprovidedbytheManufacturer.

-Neverusethesepreductsnearopenflames,smoking materialsorsparks.

OPERATION

-Donotruntheengineofthismachineinclosedareas withoutproperventilationtoremovedeadlyexhaustgases.

-RollOverProtectiveStructuresarerequiredonloaders, dozers,graders,excavators.NEVEROPERATEmachineswithoutROPS.

-MakesuretheOperator’scompartmentisfreeofforeign objects,especiallyifnotfirmlysecured.Neverusethe machinetotransportobjects,unlesspropersecuring pointsareprovided.

-Checkmonitoringinstrumentsatstart-upandfrequently duringoperationifthebrakepressuregaugesugnalsa pressurelowerthantheminimumoperationvalue,stop immediatelythemachine.

-DONOTCARRYRIDERSONMACHINE

-Studyandfamiliarizewithescaperoutesalternateto normalexitroutes.

-SeatbeltsarerequiredtobeprovidedwithRollOver ProtectionStructuresorcabs.Keepsafetybeltsfastened aroundyouduringoperation.

-Foryourpersonalprotection,donotclimbonoroff machinewhilemachineinmotion.

-Makesurethatexposedpersonsintheareaofoperation areclearofthemachine,beforestartingtheengineand operatingtheequipment.Obeyallindicationsprovided byflagsandsignals.

-NEVERCOASTthemachinedowngradesandslopes withthetransmissioninneutralorneutralized,orpower shifttypemachines,orclutchdisengagedonmanually shiftedmachines.

-Donotoperatemachineryinaconditionofextreme fatigueorillness.Beespeciallycarefultowardstheend ofworkingshift.

-Donotoperatemachinewithbrakesoutofadjustment.

-Operatethemachineatspeedsslowenoughtoensure completecontrolatalltimes.

-Travelslowlyoverroughterrain,onslopesorneardropoffs,incongestedareasoroniceorslipperysurfaces.

-Whenbacking,alwayslooktowherethemachineisto bemoved. Bealerttothepositionofexposedpersonnel.DONOT OPERATEifexposedpersonnelentertheimmediate workarea. STOPTHEMACHINE.

-Maintainasafedistancefromothermachines.Provide sufficientclearanceforgroundandvisibilityconditions. Yieldright-of-waytoloadedmachines.

-Maintainclearvisionofareasoftravelorwork.Keepcab windowscleanandrepaired.

-Whenmachinesareoperatingintandem,thepusher (rear)mustbeequippedwiththeappropriatedeflectors toprotecttheunitinfrontfromtheairstreamcomingfrom theradiator.

-Whenpullingortowingthroughacableorchain,donot startsuddenlyatfullthrottle;take-upslackcarefully. Inspectcarefullyforflawsortroublesbeforeusing.

-Avoidkinkingchainsorcables.Donotpullthrougha kinkedchainorcabletothehighstressesandpossibility offailureofthekinkedarea. Alwayswearheavygloveswhenhandlingchainsor cables.

-Besurechainsandcablesareanchoredandtheanchor pointsarestrongenoughtohandletheexpectedload. Keepexposedpersonnelclearofanchorpointsand cablesorchains.

-DONOTPULLUNLESSOPERATOR’sCOMPARTMENTOFMACHINESINVOLVEDAREPROPERLY GUARDEDAGAINSTPOTENTIALCABLEORCHAIN BACKLASH.

-Bealerttosoftgroundconditionsclosetonewlyconstructedwalls.Thefillmaterialandweightofthemachine maycausethewallcollapseunderthemachine.

-Indarkness,checkareaofoperationcarefullybefore movinginwithmachine.Usealllightsprovided.Donot moveintoareaofrestrictedvisibility.

-Ifenginehasatendencytostallforanyreasonunder loadoridle,reportthisforadjustmenttopropermaintenanceauthorityimmediately. Donotcontinuetooperatemachine,untilconditionhas beencorrected.

-Onmachinessuppliedwithsuctionradiatorfans,besure toperiodicallycheckengineexhaustpartsforleaks,as exhaustfumesaredangeroustotheoperator.

-Incaseofenclosedcabs,alwaysletopenadischarge totheoutside,toensureaircirculation.

-Operatorsmustknowthoroughlytheperformancesof themachinetheyareoperating. Whenworkingonslopesornearsuddenleveldropsof theterrain,avoidareaswheregroundislooseorsoft sincerolling-overorlossofcontrolofmachinecould result.

-Wherenoiseexposureexceeds90dBAfor8hours,wear approvedearprotection.

-Whencounterweightsareprovided,donotworkmachineiftheyhavebeenremoved.

-Overtakingmanoeuvresmustbeperformedonlywhen absolutelynecessaryandunavoidable. Bewareofpossibleuneventerrains,poorvisibilityconditions,thepresenceofothermachineryorpersonsout ofsight.

-Operatethemachineataspeedadequatetotheworking conditionsinthesiteandslowenoughtoensurecompletecontrolatalltimes.

-Checkmonitoringinstrumentsatstart-upandfrequently duringoperations. Incaseofabnormalconditionwarnings,stopimmediatelythemachine.

-Neverusethemachineasaworkplatformorscaffolding, norotherinappropriateoperations(i.epushingrailway cars,trucksorothermachines).

-Bealertofpeopleintheoperatingareaofthemachine. Whenoperatingamachine,knowwhatclearanceswill beencountered,overheaddoors,cables,pipes,bearingloadlimitationsofground,bridges,floorsorramps.

-Whenroading,find-outwhatconditionsarelikelytobe encountered,clearances,trafficcongestion,typeofroad surfacing,etc.

Bewareoffog,smokeordustelementsthatobscure visibility.

-Whencrossinggulliesorditches,moveatananglewith reducedspeedafterensuringgroundconditionswill permitasafetraverse.

-Exploretheworkingareatoidentifypotentialriskssuch as:slopes,overhangs,pits,demolitionrubble,fires, ravines,ditches,softterrain,heavytraffic,crowdedparkingareas,closedambients.Insuchconditions,proceed withextremecare.

-Wheneverpossible,avoidgoingoverobstaclessuchas roughterrain,rocks,logshighlyirregularground,steps, ditches,railroadtracks.Whenobstructionsmustbe crossed,dosowithextremecareatanangle,ifpossible. Reducespeed,shift-down.

Easeuptothebreakoverpoint,passthebalancepoint slowlyontheobstructionandeasedownontheother side.

-Insteepdown-hilloperation,donotallowenginetooverspeed.Selectpropergearbeforestartingdowngrade.

-Avoidsidehilltravel,wheneverpossible.Driveupand downtheslope.Shouldthemachineslippingsideways, turnitimmediatelydownhill.

-Thegradeofslopeyoushouldattemptwillbelimitedby factorssuchasconditionoftheground,loadbeing handled,typeofmachine,speedofmachineandvisibility.

-Thereisnosubstituteforgoodjudgementwhenworking onslopes.

-Avoidoperatingequipmenttooclosetoanoverhangor highwall,eitheraboveorbelowthemachine.Beonthe look-outforcavingedges,fallingobjectsandslides. Bewareofconcealmentbybrushandundergrowthof thesedanger.

-Whenpushing-overtrees,themachinemustbe equippedwithproperoverheadguarding.Neverallow amachinetoclimbupontherootstructureparticularly whilethetreeisbeingfelled. Useextremecarewhenpushingoveranytreewithdead branches.

-Avoidbrushpiles,logsorrocks.NEVERDRIVEOVER THEMorothersurfaceirregularitiesthatbraketraction withtheground,especiallywhenonslopesorneardropoffs.

-Bealerttoavoidchangesintractionconditionsthatcould causelossofcontrol.DONOTDRIVEoniceorfrozen groundconditionswhenworkingthemachineonsteep slopesorneardrop-offs.

-Workinginvirginandroughterrainsischaracterizedby thepresenceofalltheperilsandriskslistedabove.In theseconditions,itisemphasisedthedangerrepresentedbylargetreelimbs(possiblyfallingonthemachine),largeroots(actingasaleverageunderthe machinewhenup-rootedcausingtheroll-overofthe unit)etc..

STOPPING

-Whenthemachineisstoppedforwhateverreason, followtheinstructionsofchapters“Stoppingthemachine”and“Stoppingtheengine”oftheOperationand MaintenanceInstructionManual.

-Alwaysremembertopositionthetransmissiondrive controlinneutralandengagethecontrollocktosecure themachine.

-Setparkingbrake.

-NEVERLEAVETHEMACHINEUNATTENTEDwiththe enginerunning.

-Alwaysbeforeleavingtheoperator’sseatandafter makingsureallpeopleareclearofthemachine,slowly lowertheattachmentsortoolsflattothegroundina positivegroundsupportposition.

-Returnthecontrolsinneutralposition.Placethegearshiftleverinneutralandshut-offtheengine.Lockthe gearshiftlever,switch-offandlockthestarterswitch.

-Parkinanon-operatingandno-trafficareaorasinstructed.Parkonfirmlevelgroundifpossible.Wherenot possible,positionmachineatarightangletotheslope, makingsurethereisnodangerofuncontrolledsliding movements.Setparkingbrake.

-Ifparkingintrafficlanescannotbeavoided,provide appropriateflags,barriers,flaresandsignalsasrequired.Alsoprovideadvancewarningsignalsinthe trafficlaneofapproachingtraffic.

-Keephead,body,limbs,handsandfeetawayfrom blade,arms,bucketorripperwheninraisedposition. Alwaysdisconnectthemasterswitchbeforeanyintervention(i.e.cleaning,repairing,maintaining,refuelling etc.).Dothesamewhenparkingforprolongedperiods oftimetoavoidaccidentalorunauthorizedstarting.

-Neverlowerattachmentsortoolsotherthanseatedin operator’sseat.Soundhorn.Makesureareanearthe attachmentisclear.Lowertheattachmentslowly.DO NOTUSEFLOATPOSITIONofhydraulicsystem.

SAFETYRULES

-Securelyblockthemachineandlockiteverytimeyou leaveitunattended.Returnkeystoauthorizedsecurity. Heedallshut-downoperationsoftheOperationand MaintenanceInstructionManualarefollowed.Every timeyouleavethemachine,engageparkingbrake(if equippingunit).

MAINTENANCE

GENERALITIES

-Beforeoperatingorperforminganyinterventiononthe machine:

-readcarefullyalltherulescontainedbythisManual; -readandobeyallsafetyrelatedplatesandinstructionslocatedonthemachine.

-Donotallowunauthorizedpersonneltoperformany maintenanceoperation.Donotperformmaintenance operationwithoutpriorauthorization.Followallrecommendedmaintenanceandserviceprocedures.

-Keepoperator’scompartmentfreeofalllooseobjects thatarenotproperlysecured.

-Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,looseor hangingapparels,suchasties,tornclothing,scarves, unbuttonedorunzippedjacketsthatcancatchonmovingparts.

Wearpropersafetyequipmentasrecommendedforthe job.Examples:hardhat,heavygloves,earprotection, safetyglassesorgoggles,reflectorvests,respirator. Consultyouremployerforspecificsafetyequipment requirements.

-Donotusecontrolsorhosesashandholdswhenclimbingonoroffthemachine.Thesecomponentsaremovableanddonotprovideasolidsupport.Controlsmay alsobemovedunintentionallycausingaccidentalmachineorequipmentmovements.

-Donotjumponoroffthemachine.Keeptwohandsand onefoot,ortwofeetandonehandincontactwithsteps andgrabrailsandhandlesatalltimes.

-Donotperformanyserviceoperationonthemachine withapersonseatedintheoperator’scompartment, unlessheisanauthorizedoperatorco-operatinginthe operationtobeperformed.

-Keepoperator’scompartment,steppingpoints,grabrailsandhandlesclearofforeignobjects,oil,grease, mudorsnowaccumulationtominimizethedangerof slippingorstumbling.Cleanmudorgreasefromshoes beforeattemptingtomountoroperatethemachine.

-Keepshoesfreeofmudorgreasebeforeclimbingor drivingthemachine.

-Neverattempttooperatethemachineoritstoolsfrom anypositionotherthanseatedintheoperator’sseat.

-Whenmaintenanceoperationsrequiremovinghydraulicallyoperatedattachmentsbymeansofmachine’s hydraulicsystemrememberthatallmanoeuvresmust bemadeonlywhenseatedintheoperator’sseat.Before startingmachineormovingattachmentortools,set brakes,soundhornandcallforanallclear.Raise attachmentslowly.

-Alwaysblockwithexternalsupportsanylinkageorpart onmachinethatrequiresworkundertheraisedlinkage, partormachine.Neverallowanyonetowalkunderor benearunblockedraisedequipment.Unlessyourare positivelysurethattotalsafeconditionexist,avoidstayingunderraisedequipment,evenifblocked.

-Neverplacehead,body,limbs,fingers,feetorhandsinto exposedportionsbetweenuncontrolledorunguarded scissorpointsofmachinewithoutfirstprovidingsecure blocking.

-Neverperforminterventionswithenginerunning,exceptascalledforinaManual.Donotwearlooseclothing orjewellerynearmovingparts.

-Whenservicingormaintenancerequireaccesstoareas thatcannotbereachedfromtheground,usealadderor stepplatformthatmeetlocalandnationalregulations,to reachtheservicepoint.Ifsuchladderorplatformarenot available,usethemachinehandholdsandstepsas provided.Performallserviceormaintenancecarefully.

-Shopand/orfieldserviceplatformsorladdersmustbe constructedandmaintainedinaccordancewithlocal andnationalregulations.

-DisconnectbatteriesandTAGallcontrolsaccordingto currentregulationstowarnthatworkisinprogress.Block machineandallattachmentsthatmustberaisedaccordingtocurrentregulations.

Duetothepresenceofflammablefluids,nevercheckor fillfueltanks,batteries,norusestartingfluidnearlighted smokingmaterialsoropenflames.

-BRAKESAREINOPERATIVEwhenmanuallyreleased forservicing.Provisionsmustbemadetomaintain controlofthemachinebyblockingorothermeans.

-Thefuelfillingnosemustbekeptconstantlyinsidethe fillingneck.Keepthiscontactfromthebeginningtothe endofthefuellingoperationtoavoidthepossibilitythat sparksduetostaticelectricityaregenerated.

-Useonlydesignatedtowingorattachingpoints.Use careinmakingattachments.Makesurepinsand/orlocks aresecurebeforepulling.Stayclearofdrawbars,cables orchainsunderload.

-Tomoveadisabledmachine,useatraileroralow-boy, ifavailable.Incasetowingisneeded,useallnecessary signalsrequiredbylocalandnationalregulations,and followthedirectionsprovidedinthisManual.

-Toload/unloadamachinefromtransporter,choosea levelsurfaceensuringfirmsupporttothewheelsoftruck ortrailer.

Usestrongaccessramps,withadequateheightand angle.Keepsurfacefreeofmud,oilorslipperymaterials.

-Anchorthemachinesecurelytothebedoftruckortrailer andblockwheelsortrackswithappropriatewedges.

-Neveralignholeswithfingersorhands;alwaysuse appropriatealigningtools.

-Eliminateallsharpedgesandburrsfromre-worked parts.

-Useonlyapprovedgroundedauxiliarypowersources forheaters,chargers,pumpsandsimilarequipmentto reducethehazardsofelectricalshocks.

-Liftandhandleheavypartswithaliftingdeviceofproper capacity.Besurepartsaresupportedbyproperslings andhooks.Useliftingeyesifprovided.Watch-outfor peopleinthevicinity.

-Neverpourgasolineordieselfuelintoopen,wideand lowcontainers.Neverusegasoline,solventorother flammablefluidtocleanparts.Useexclusivelyqualified, non-flammable,non-toxiccommercialsolvents.

-Whenusingcompressedairforcleaningparts,use safetyglasseswithsideshieldsorgoggles.Limitpressureto2bar,inaccordancewithlocalandnational regulations.

-Donotruntheengineinclosedareaswithoutproper ventilationtoremovedeadlyexhaustfumes.

-Donotsmokeorpermitanyopenflamesorsparknear whenre-fuellingorhandlingflammablematerials.

-Donotuseanopenflameasalightsourcetolookfor leaksorforinspectionanywhereonthemachine.

-Makesurethatallmechanic’stoolsareingoodconditions.NEVERUSEtoolswithmushroomedheadsor frayed.Alwaysweareyeprotections.

-Movewithextremecarewhenworkingunderthemachine,itsattachmentsandoronornearthem.Always wearprotectivesafetyequipmentasrequired,suchas hardhat,goggles,safetyshoes,earplugs.

-Whenperformingoperationsrequiringrunningoftheengine,haveaqualifiedoperatorintheoperator’sseatatall timeswiththemechaniconsight.Placethetransmission inneutralandsetthebrakesandsafetylock.KEEPHANDS ANDCLOTHINGAWAYFROMMOVINGPARTS.

-Forfieldservice,movemachinetolevelground,if possible,andblockit. Ifworkonaninclineisabsolutelynecessary,firstblock machineanditsattachmentssecurely,thanmoveitto levelgroundassoonaspossible.

-Donottrustwornand/orkinkedchainsandcables:do notusethemforliftingorpullingoperations. Tohandlethem,alwaysuseheavygloves.

-Avoidkinkingchainsorcables. Donotpullthroughakinkedchainorcabletothehigh stressesandpossibilityoffailureofthekinkedarea. Alwayswearheavygloveswhenhandlingchainsor cables.

-Besurechainsandcablesareanchoredandtheanchor pointsarestrongenoughtohandletheexpectedload.

-Keepexposedpersonnelclearofanchorpointsand cablesorchains.

-DONOTPULLUNLESSOPERATOR’sCOMPARTMENTOFMACHINESINVOLVEDAREPROPERLY GUARDEDAGAINSTPOTENTIALCABLEORCHAIN BACKLASH.

-KeeptheareawheremaintenanceoperationsareperformedCLEANandDRY.Eliminateimmediatelyall waterandoilspillages.

-Donotpileoilyorgreasyrags;theyrepresentafire hazard.Storeinclosedmetalcontainer.

-Beforestartingmachine,check,adjustandlockthe operator’sseatformaximumcomfortandcontrolofthe machine.
